Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones

They are useful in places that are intermittently loud, and when you need to hear what is going on around you. I use them at home and can have a short conversation with those around me with them on, whereas closed BT headphones I have to take them off to talk and listen. They really work well...

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones

Purchased the Cipher BT cable the day it was announced. Received two days ago, topped off the charge, and have used it through one charge cycle. Comments: 1) Sound is great with iSine 20. Not quite as good as the Cipher V2 (wired) to an iPhone but close enough that I don't go running to...

Bose tells the NFL: Stop wearing other headphones -- like Beats -- at games

I'm curious how much Bose paid, too.  Motorola was reported to have paid 40 million during their 13-year run of headset sponsorship, and that was obviously some time ago.   On the advertising of the brand on camera:  I wonder if Bose gave every person on camera headphones.  Then it totally...

Bose tells the NFL: Stop wearing other headphones -- like Beats -- at games

http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/4/6907355/nfl-bose-sponsorship-deal-bans-beats-headphones   Interesting that Bose would use their product placement deal with the NFL to tell players and sideline folks what headphones they can use during broadcasts.

    The Fiio X5 Thread

Take a look at this.  Page 15 is the Pico Amp and Page 21 (last page) is the Pico Power.   The Power does not have the DAC, and the DAC on the Pico Amp is optional (I think Tyll tested the amp only version).    http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/AllAmpsJuly2013.pdf

Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread

I wanted to raise this question asked earlier -- has anyone done a head-to-head listening comparison between the HE-500 and the PM-1?  I think this point of the two being similar-sounding is an interesting one, especially given their frequency response curves.  The HE-500 with a bit of treble...

    The Centrance HiFi M8 thread

I too have an M8 and really love its sound, especially when driven by the USB B input (hi res).   On balanced outputs, I've gotten balanced cables for two headphones in my stable that I thought would benefit from it (LCD-2, Alpha Dog).  I use those cables with the M8, although I cannot claim...

Did you flip the digital switch to the USB B port side?

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

Use the USB B port whenever possible with the M8. It makes a noticeable difference in sonic quality when using high-quality music tracks and headphones. ExpatInJapan's setup works for the iPhone 5, and I acquired a short USB adapter like the one shown for this purpose.

MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Revealed! - The World's First Production 3D-Printed Headphones

When I first got the Alpha Dog three weeks ago, I noticed immediately that they had a sonic 'glare' about them -- trumpets in particular were emphasized and sounded zingy at times.  I was coming from the LCD-2v2, so I figured I would give them a few days to see if my hearing would adjust.  ...

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

I find WAV to be most portable as it can be used in almost any player.  But I don't think WAV allows tagging, which is a pain.  AIFF is a good choice for Apple devices, but it used to be that non-Apple audio players wouldn't like AIFF so it was less portable.

Good news for Apple Lightning fans?

Pictures of the module?  Anyone find any?  Or is this a description of the spec only?

Good news for Apple Lightning fans?

I think you are spot on.  The current Lightning-to-30-pin adapter has a DAC, and it is a line out which means no volume change.  All Apple has to do is make volume change work on this DAC, and it is now a "headphone out."  Of course, it won't work well with hard-to-drive headphones, but that is...

Good news for Apple Lightning fans?

The 9to5mac story has the DAC link embedded in the story. http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/03/apple-introduces-mfi-specs-for-lightning-cable-headphones-support-arriving-in-future-ios-update/ This link is at the end of the fourth paragraph where the restriction is mentioned...

    The Centrance HiFi M8 thread

There is a problem with this one. I have it, and it is upside down. In other words, you would have to twist it to have the iDevice sit face up on the top of the M8 where the word "CEntrance" is in white. You could use the Griffin cable included in this set if you are willing to have the iDevice...

    ios7, iPhone and Apple CCK

I think the gain change on the headphone out is digital only, so lower gain than max means fewer bits are being used. It is a 24-bit device, so it is not a problem if it works this way; the limit in the dynamic range is the amp section for most portable DAC/amps. You could ask in the...

    Fiio X5 or DX50/DX90

I would wait a couple days until Monday June 2 to see what Apple says at WWDC.  Rumor has it that they will announce hi-res downloads from iTunes, and this could come with some form of hardware announcement.  The iPod Classic disappeared from the online refurb store, so some change is afoot.

Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread

Thanks for checking -- did you use an amp?  The periodic "chiff chiff" noise is close to the noise floor so it is very very low level.

Compatible mobile Amps/Dacs for the iPhone 5

Two DAC/amps that meet your requirements:   1)  V-MODA Vamp Verza 2)  CEntrance HiFi-M8   The M8 is more capable, IMO, but it has the drawback that the iDevice is only charged when the M8 is plugged in AND the iDevice is playing audio through the M8.  I've never used the Vamp Verza.

Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread

OK, folks -- I did a search on head-fi for this issue and came up empty.   Any pointers to it here, if they exist, would be great…   For those of you who have an iPod Video 5th Gen, AND you use Rockbox, there is an issue with persistent low-level sounds in the right channel in Rockbox.   I...

Compatible mobile Amps/Dacs for the iPhone 5

@Hapster:  I've got the CEntrance HiFi-M8, the HRT microStreamer, the FiiO E17, and the beyerdynamic A200p (on loan).   I'm doing a review on the A200P that I should have up sometime tomorrow.     I've worked through the issues of getting iPhones, iPods, and iPads to talk well to these DACs...

Why are high end portables generally poorly made?

Square brown pushbuttons.    Definitely was a nifty look back then in the sea of brushed champagne and toggles...   On B&W:  It is a good speaker company, and I find the P5 a nice little piece of kit.  The cord is ultra ultra thin, though -- so they aren't durable unless you are careful about...
