    The discovery thread!

Piezo/dynamic combo units are also in the Spring 1 and A6 Mini. If they can nail the tuning (which the Spring 1 does not do without modding/EQ) that's a very interesting proposition.

    Audio shop in Bay Area?

Audiovision in SF has a decent selection of headphones and they carry Chord and iFi products as well. I just wish they carried IEMs other than the iSine.

    Best IEM tips?

I picked up some Flare foam tips to try with the EE Bravado, which for me works best with thin foams. The Flares seems nice, but unfortunately, I seem to fall between sizes with them, at least on this IEM. The small does not provide a solid seal in one ear, and the medium is a bit too large to...

You don't even need a separate cable, you can just try the left side of the cable with the right earpiece. If you get sound, then the right side of your cable is the problem. This can happen with any set of IEMs. The cable on my Empire Ears Bravado (which is an Effect Audio Ares II that would...

When viewing subscribed threads, no longer a way to filter out "read" threads?

Ah, the option to save default does help. One that is unfortunate though is that you can't leave that tab open and just refresh it. The four-digit character that is suffixed to the URL means that if you reload the page, it doesn't pick up new content. You would have to either delete that and...

Ah, thanks. That seems kind of...roundabout, though.

    Best soundstage?

The HD800/800s soundstage is indeed very good, and it is a bit unlike most headphones in how it achieves it. The drivers are moved well away from your ears and as far forward as practical, to provide a more frontal presentation. The result is certainly very good, although probably better for...

    TRN impressions thread

You can't always find an IEM that has the best tuning for you, the technical performance you want, and the price you can afford/wish to pay. If you have to pick two, then let the tuning go if you can fix it with EQ. Easier to adjust tuning than to alter technical characteristics or psychically...

iBasso IT01 a fun IEM. Single multilayered graphene driver. !! 99 USD !!

I recently went through a lot of this while trying to sort out my very-driver-flex-prone EE Bravado. I ended up having to settle on the foam tips solution. #5 soooort of worked, but also threw off the sound more than the foam tips did. What I should try next is taking those vented tips and...

    BQEYZ in-ear monitors Impressions Thread

I haven't heard the Tape, but my understanding is that it's much more v-shaped. There have been a couple brief comparisons from folks who've heard both, but I don't know if I've seen a detailed one.

BEST VALUE ''around 100-300$'' CHIFI & NEWCOMERS IEM with REFERENCE List (no BIG brands here)

"Substantially better" is a tricky concept to apply because as @baskingshark said, diminishing returns kick in hard the higher you go in price point. I think the best thing is to figure out if there's any particular area where you want to see an improvement over the Spring 1, and then look for...

Newbie here! Thoughts on IEMs with electrostatic drivers?

If you don't mind the over $1k territory, possibly also look at Hyla's offerings? They're very well-regarded for bass and also use piezo tweeters.

Newbie here! Thoughts on IEMs with electrostatic drivers?

A lot of folks love the Tape for this, but I haven't heard it yet. I do have the BQEYZ Spring 1 (piezo tweeter), which is a great IEM but requires EQ and/or modding to sound its best. If you get it dialed in, it has really good detail in the mids and highs, and a satisfying thumping sort of...

Newbie here! Thoughts on IEMs with electrostatic drivers?

I don't have any experience with Shuoer models or with electrostatic drivers generally, but my understanding is that the driver used in the Tape and the Singer is considered magnetostatic rather than electrostatic. I do not know what the practical significance of that difference is, but FWIW...

The all new Continental Dual Mono

That sounds relatively normal for dual triode tubes in the CDM. It is designed to run hot, including too hot to touch. Single triode tubes will lower the operating temp substantially if it bothers you, as well using the line in instead of the onboard DAC.

    Best IEM tips?

KZ Starlines are medium bore, with a long shape that works well with some IEMs that may have shorter stems that are also too wide to fit a Final E tip.

    Best IEM tips?

I haven't noticed any problems with imaging. I can see considering the bores of the Sednas too wide, though, since they do have an impact on the sound. Good for IEMs that may be considered too dark, but for anything that's already neutral or bright, I would personally avoid them. But that's...

ISN Earphones impression thread. New ISN H50!

A couple of caveats to the Spring 1: you want a source with decent power for them, and for the best results be ready to do some EQ-ing or modding along with experimenting with tip selection. They perform well above their price point if you're willing to tinker with them.

Have earbuds, but don't know what to start

If you want to buy from Amazon specifically, MusicTeck is a US distributor for a couple different brands, like Shanling and Hiby, and they sell through Amazon. You can also buy Fiio and iBasso stuff on Amazon, along with a bunch of other brands. And as mentioned you may get better results...

If the Singer doesn't have driver failure issues, I may pick one up, I've been curious about the Tape, but I hate dealing with returns so I usually avoid things that seem to have a high failure rate.
