How are you liking the sheepskin pads? Definitely want to replace my stock pads. Leather definitely gives a better seal. Any change in tonality?

The 560 headband was very easy to replace, is it the same with the Ananda?

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements

Harman research found that there is a subgroup of 21% of listeners who preferred more bass than the Harman target. This cluster of people tend to be younger, male, less experienced, and, as Oliver says in the interview, more aggressive (“testosterone”). Basically, we have a minority of bassheads...

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements

Surprised at the comfort rating, as the Ether 2 is supposed to be one of the most comfortable sets out there. Sound used to be all I cared about but comfort is becoming of equal importance. But the discomfort I feel with headphones is never on the top of my head; it's around my ears...

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements

Don’t take it so seriously. It was a rant. I just think people who review top end audio gear should make more of an effort to listen to and learn about classical music. It should be part of being a serious reviewer. I agree with you to a certain extent, but keep in mind that composers like...

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements

That’s what the term should refer to, but the quality of audio reviewing is so bad that reviewers pander to the masses at every turn. People buy $4,000 headphones to listen for bass slam in highly processed pop crap. From what I can tell, in most cases, the music preferences of audio reviewers...

Reply to review by 'Brahmsian' on item 'Dan Clark Audio AEON Flow RT Closed'

Is the Aeon Flow RT the same as the Aeon RT? Dan Clark's website says the latter. Let's stick to that or it becomes very confusing to keep track.

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Yes, indeed. There are inly a handful of labels that do pure DSD. I’m not recommending it to other people. Just the same, other people might already be enhancing their enjoyment that way. I tend to agree with you. I was just reacting to the belief that it is so, so sad that some of us buy hi...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

What‘s so sad about it if he’s enjoying his music? I buy pure DSD 256 files. They sound fantastic. It’s just my imagination? Fine. If my imagination is enhancing my enjoyment, it’s enhancing my enjoyment. I don’t bother A/Bing because, first, I couldn‘t care less; I want to listen to music not...

    KOSS ESP-950 Thread

Thanks for the reply (even though I’m just seeing it now). I ended up returning them to Koss again under warranty, and they finally sent back what appears to be a new unit. Works perfectly. They paid for all shipping after the initial return, so all in all I’m satisfied.

The Koss ESP950 thread (ESP owners, please contribute! :)

In fairness to Koss, I should say that they finally seemed to have fixed all problems. Knock on wood but I’ve had them back for about a month and been enjoying them with no issues. I only paid for the first return; they paid shipping on the rest. Customer service could not have been nicer.

Why? What do you like about the Koss versus the 800, and what kind of music do you usually listen to?

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

Any pads you would recommend? The shape of these pads is so bizarre that I guess I just assumed there wouldn’t be many options.

    = HiFiMAN HE-560 Impressions & Discussion Thread =

I second everything housekrl wrote. The Ananda is definitely an upgrade. I‘m still glad I kept the 560 though because the Ananda puts much more of a microscope to the sound and on bad or older recordings they will definitely magnify the defects while the 560 does a good job of smoothing them out.

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

I deleted the comment. The sibilance has only occurred with one recording, which tells me it has more to do with this particular record than with the Ananda. But comparisons of Arya and Ananda treble still welcome. If anything, I hear Arya is harsher, more peaky,

    Hifiman Ananda

You can make it clamp less by slightly bending the metal outward where the bridge turns into the yokes. Do it carefully and you should have no problem. There's always a risk you might break something though, so do it at your own risk. But I've never had any problems adjusting clamp force on...

    Hifiman Ananda

560 (v2) is a little warmer to my ears, to the point that it sounds dull in comparison. But I am using lambskin voce pads and removed the film from the grills, which I think corrected the treble a little. Even though I hear more treble on the Ananda, it’s so smooth that I feel no desire to tame...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

Resolve’s review i found lukewarm. He said it crinkled all the time and also didn’t like the highs, which he said were too muted. Valour‘s review was one rip after another, and Max Settings called them dead sounding. Those reviews, as well as gripes about comfort, scared me away from Dan Clark...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

I read just about the entire thread and didn't see a comparison with Arya. My current headphones are the HifiMan HE560 and Koss 95X. If anyone is familiar with those units, I'm wondering how the Ether 2 compares/differs.

    KOSS ESP-950 Thread

Back in October, after buying a brand new unit from Drop, I complained about some noises issuing from the left driver. The problem went away, but I said I would give an update if it came back. Well, it has come back with a vengeance. The noises include squealing, whistling, crinkling, and a soft...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

One of the things that initially attracted me to the Ether 2 was how light they are. Some people consider it the most comfortable headphones they've worn; others have complained about comfort issues. Someone further back in this thread suggested that it might be due to the fact that the yokes...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

I modded my HE560 with the Voce pads, which have the biggest earholes I've ever used. They are the most comfortable pads that I have by far. There would seem to be less contact between the pads and my skin since there is so much less surface to the pad. But if the crucial contact area is...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

They do however point out that there are ways to edit in DSD and avoid converting to DXD except for crossfades. I think Channel Classics is one of the labels that do that. This is probably a phenomenon that is mostly limited to acoustic music.

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

    1) NativeDSD claims to have a custom procedure that involves ”extra work” to ensure the most accurate metadata possible. They mostly host classical music labels, and I think they realize that there’s a problem with how that metadata is handled by other services, which basically treat it like pop...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Here is the sort of thing I expect from truly audiophile-grade music download services. I don't care if it's PCM or DSD or what the resolution is as long as a) it's a good recording and b) it's an exact copy of the master in whatever resolution it was recorded in. This way, I know I'm getting...
