    VSONIC VC02 Thread

I finally got them but unfortunately even though they were in a case the plug seems to have deteriorated or something coz they are cutting off when the plug rotates in the jack, so unless you can reterminate the cable, they are useless as I don't think it will be possible to find a cable for it...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

IMO, it sounds slightly better with the last firmware but my opinion stands, it still sounds weirdly artificial

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Really? Have you given the a105 a proper listen as IMO it's really sub-par, granted I just briefly auditioned the a55 a while ago in the store, but don't remember it being as bad as the a105. I reverted my a35 to stock just to give the a105 a fair comparison but the a105 still sounded worse...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Well, I'm glad you like them. But fit aside, the n3 sounds almost exactly the same (even better as it is a touch more neutral), so if you're set on spending $500+ on a sony iem, the ier-m7 will be the better deal

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - for me the Z5 is kinda redundant given the existence of N3 at half the price. They are almost identical. The Z5 is bit bassier and a touch fuller sounding, but it's like having a slightly different tuning of the same iem rather than being an actual...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Well, I finally had some time to test the dmp-a30. It's enjoyable but I still prefer the non-plus reloaded. There's just something about the way it presents the sound - it's not only clearer but there's a particular rawness that makes the music more realistic. The dmp-30 is somewhat sweater and...

The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread

Yes, you can. also a version with modified sound. You can actually also flash the WM1Z/A firmware (and a version with modified sound) on it too but some things get a bit cut off. You can also flash the zx300 firmware on a45, but not the wm1z/a one. So far there isn't anything for a55 and chances...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Of course, Sony hasn't released new flagships and they still advertise them at any audio convection they attend. Both 1a and 1z and super popular and if you visit an audio show, chance is they will be a whole bunch of visitors carrying a "black brick" or a "gold brick" as they tend to be...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Go for it. Sony is still manufacturing wm1a/1z and a55, so the wn-port cables won't just disappear from the market. If you're worried, just buy 3-4 cables for backup. You'll spend less than 20 euros and you'll be set for the lifespan of the DAP.

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

You can find them cheap from third-party manufacturers, I got a bunch from a local store for like 5 euros each. They all work fine and transfer files as fast as the original. I'm sure that if you google wm cable or search on Amazon, you'll find a bunch of options available in Germany

    Sony NW-A50 Series

Well, Reloaded is a bit more neutral and cleaner sounding than the + version, but once you're used the model switcher you can easily switch between Reloaded and Reloaded+, so you can test them yourself.

    Sony NW-A50 Series

Yeah, here you go https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new-sony-nw-a30-series.815843/post-15841972 . He also ported the WM1A/Z as you can see from his post below the one in the link, but honestly I tried all versions and prefer the standard Reloaded. The are also detailed instruction in the download...

    Sony NW-A50 Series

The only upgeade you'll get from the a55 is a bit better and more responsive screen. Honestly, just install the zx300 software that MrWalkman ported LINK I personally prefer the Reloaded to the Reloaded+

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

lol You surely have a lot of spare time. Of course everything I said was sarcastic, the entire 24-bit fad is completely ridiculous but sony keep making it a big deal. That's the ridiculous thing - that they keep pishing the hi-res stickers on all their gear while there is entry-level priced gear...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Nah, I came here coz I was interested to read about that new custom firmware for the 1z/1a and then saw the comments about shigzeo's opinion, which came out pretty defensive as if people read his other measurement reviews, they would see that he liked the zx300 and a lot of other stuff from...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

You got me. To be honest, I think the entire hi-res discussion is pointless given how bad music albums keep being mastered and compressed, but it's something that Sony has been pushing to the consumers as the first DAP I ever saw with the sticker was the NW-A10. Now manufacturers even pack extra...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Nah, I disagree. Hi-res playback suggests that a source can reproduce at least the industry standard for 24-bit which is in the 120-125db range, not only to have an extended frequency response. You can have a computer generated sound in a musci album, game or a movie that exceeds the limitations...
  18. kova4a

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

See, that's what I was trying to avoid - discussions about hi-res. And honestly, if you bring up microphone limitations regarding the dynamic range that can be captured, the same goes for the frequency response regardless of any filters as most professional recording mics attenuate the sound...
  19. kova4a

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Well, what he means is that the wm1z can only play hi-res formats but not actually reproduce them, so in reality it's pointless to waste space with hi-res files. The entire 24-bit hi-res audio vs CD quality is not a topic we should spam this thread with, but the fact that sony's dynamic range...

Cayin N3Pro DAP: Dual AK4493 and MQA with Vacuum Tube

We're getting a bit off-topic but yeah, I agree. If you want streaming and want to use bluetooth headphones, buds or iems - just use your phone or buy a second one if you're worried about the battery (and you'll be killing your phone battery anyway making a hotspot for your DAP to use on the...

Cayin N3Pro DAP: Dual AK4493 and MQA with Vacuum Tube

See the post just under yours. That's what I'm talking about. Personally, I don't care about streaming and I don't care about Android on DAPs, especially with the old Android versions and super entry-level SoCs all manufacturers are using. But let's face it, the majority of users nowadays can't...

Cayin N3Pro DAP: Dual AK4493 and MQA with Vacuum Tube

Of course not. They are completely different DAPs - the n6ii is Android-based, supports streaming, has replaceable motherboard and technically has better specs. That's why it costs more than double what the n3pro will. What the n3pro is more of a mid-ranger with the added novelty of the tube...

NO, the tubes work only with the standard 3.5mm output just like Cayin N8.
