Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Hello, just a quick question on the 660s: how is the bass compared to the HD-650, specifically the sub-bass? I did watch a few youtube reviews of the headphone, but I couldn't get a really concrete grasp on how the bass compare (some said it's stronger, some said it's weaker, others don't...

    Hifiman Ananda

Thanks everyone. Seems pretty much unanimous that they're great for electronic music. I'm not completely sure yet ($700 is a lot to spend on a headphone!), but I am definitely that much closer to picking the Ananda. Thanks again.

    Hifiman Ananda

Hi guys, I'm currently deciding between the Ananda and the Elex. I will be mostly listening to pop/EDM. I'm guessing most people's immediate suggestion would be Elex, for its bass slam, but I actually don't care for bass slam that much - as long as the sub-bass is there. I actually had the...

I still get the recessed mids, but that, as you say, might have to do with the amp I'm using. But the Grace m9xx definitely tames the highs on the TH-900, while still keeping the details and instrument separation. No complaints at all with the highs coming from the Grace m9xx.    What...

That's how I feel about the bass on the TH-900, too. The bass alone is worth the price admission.    Funny enough for me, I didn't buy the TH-900 for the bass (I first heard it in a head-fi meet, in which I apparently couldn't hear too much of the bass at the time), so it was just icing on...

I don't know... IMO, if you like the LCD-3F, why sell it? Selling something you like, and buying an entirely new headphone just to fulfill your amp's usage seems unnecessary to me. Because aren't headphones considered the most important part/the top of the audio chain? So I would put priority on...

I definitely agree the mids are recessed, but I don't think it has to do with the bass smearing into the mids. I find the bass to be pretty clean, TBH, with very little "stuffiness" that you get with that mid-bass hump (like I did with the old Grado RS-1, IIRC).

Calm down, dude.  I'm not mad... I was just wondering what your stance is with this whole search function issue, cause it seemingly changes all the time.    You say you've apologized, but... I honestly had no idea because I couldn't tell by your behavior. But ok, I'll take your word for it.

Did you... not understand the point of his post? He was saying we can't expect everyone to use the search function everytime they post a question. And you're saying you agree with him?    But just a few weeks ago you slagged me for not using the search function. And immediately after saying...

I don't know... it seems to me you guys are more welcoming of some people's opinions more than others, but I guess that's just the way things go.    I was trying to give perspective on how the TH-900 can be enjoyable, despite people's common criticisms about it, but if you guys want to take it...

Yes, it is hard to comprehend, because how can you make the assumption that all headphone manufacturers "endeavor to reproduce any recorded sound faithfully", when their results are so wildly different (PS-1000 vs. HD-800)? Occam's Razor would state that instead, one manufacturer doesn't care...

Yea... but if Grado's goal was to "reproduce any recorded sound faithfully", it would still try to be accurate in those areas that can be objectively measured. Maybe it's just me, but it's clear by the way Grado's sound, that there are certain things that Grado doesn't care about at all, when...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

But... that's not necessarily true, though. You even said it yourself, that Grado headphones aren't as "technically accurate" as HD-800's... and there's a reason for that. And it's not due to incompetence on Grado's part, I'm pretty sure - Grado's are purposefully tuned towards a specific...

Oh my goodness... Did I really say that the TH-900 isn't good for electronic dance music?    Because I just turned on this album (on CD, of course - just showing a youtube link so people can check it out):        And it sounds fantastic on my TH-900. I guess it's those wooden cups... it...

Not only interesting, but totally expected (for me). When Purrin actually suggested the TH-X00 might be "better" than the TH-900... I knew it was a bad statement to make. It just created unnecessary hype, and I imagine a lot of people's expectations weren't met due to it.

Grace Design x Massdrop m9XX DAC/Amp Review: First Impressions

I'd like to clarify... the Bifrost Multibit/Lyr 2 combo goes for nearly $1,000, so it shouldn't be all that surprising that one would prefer that stack over the m9xx.

Yea... but like I said. If you don't like the sound signature of the TH-600/900 line, you'll end up returning either one, regardless of what you get (because they have such similar sound signatures).    So, if you actually do end up liking the TH-600, you're guaranteeing yourself extra cost...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

I'm a little confused with the decision to purchase the TH-600 (while considering the TH-900), TBH. The TH-900, overall, is the better headphone. Yea, they are both similar in sound signature, so where the TH-900 bests the TH-600, I'm assuming, is in things like resolution, sound stage, etc. So...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Regarding the bass on the TH-900...    My impressions might differ from others', but I actually don't think the TH-900 is a bass cannon. It's more of a sub-bass cannon. So when you hear the typical kick-drum from electronica/house tracks, the kick itself isn't that strong. But it's when the...

I'm pretty sure the HD-800/s shows more detail than the TH-900, but I'm going by memory on the HD-800. The HD-800 is known to be a detail microscope.
