xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Apologies iFi but I don't currently own your streaming product. :)

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Why are we talking about the Diablo here? The Ifi xDSD Gryphon IMHO sounds great with every IEM I've tried though, Sennheiser ie900, Westone W80, Shure SE846, Ultimate Ears 18+ Pro, TINHIFI P1. Edit: With and without ieMatch.

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

If it helps I don't hear any hiss with my most sensitive IEM, the Westone W80 and I also don't notice any significant effects when switching on ieMatch. Remember we all hear stuff differently though, so as always I would suggest a listening test or purchase from a supplier with a good returns...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I forgot the S/PDIF input so just testing that one too now, it works great. Using the xDuoo X10T II controlled using HibyLink from my phone. Headphone is the AudioQuest NightOwl and music currently is Tanita Tikaram - Ancient Heart direct from a microSD card. The Gryphon truly does bring out...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I'm all ears :) and open to suggestions but as far as portable balanced amps I couldn't find much out there at a reasonable price. I already have the Periodic Audio Nickel and its a great little amp but I wanted to try balanced out of the Cayin A02. Edit: Oh and balanced out from the A02...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Similar implementation, but as I mentioned before it functions slightly differently as the volume level can be controlled from the source device, I don't remember my xDSD being like that. I like the sound, no hiss, no "glare" that I can hear. I'm not going to try and compare it seriously to...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Difficult, that device doesn't even have Wifi, I know I own one. Currently there is no such thing as a Lossless BT codec. There is no channel imbalance on my unit that I can detect at any volume. I also wanted to add, that LDAC range is very good too, I'm using Adaptive LDAC mode at the...

Whatever its called, I'm lovin' the way its making the music sound.

I did once, but I deleted the pairing and re-paired and its been faultless ever since.

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Fair enough, there isn't one product that's a perfect fit for everyone. It would be a lot simpler if there were. If anyone cares, its easy to check if MQA is decoding properly. Edit: MQA decoding works even if using a music player program like Foobar2000 as long as its outputting bit perfect @...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I will leave that comparison to another member as I don't really have a suitable high end DAP to compare with, I do have the N6ii and several audio modules but which audio module to use... Edit: Can I also add that to my wannabe Audiophile ears I really don't notice much of a difference over...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Oh OK, perhaps I should RTFM then... Edit: I tested the rear output in Bluetooth mode with the Sennheiser HD650, the front 4.4mm output appears to be louder for the same volume level compared to the rear 4.4mm output so that makes it difficult to compare the outputs as its tricky to volume...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I didn't even try that, the rear 4.4mm "output" is really an input though, so you may cause damage, better to check with Ifi if that is OK perhaps.

Sennheiser IE900 Review, Measurements, & Harman Target Talk

That is a very tricky question/comparison. I don't own the Go Blu so I can't compare with that particular device I'm afraid. The N6ii is also fairly unique in that it offers several different DAC modules as you probably already know. All the DAC modules are subtly different. I'm using the N6ii...

Sennheiser IE900 Review, Measurements, & Harman Target Talk

While trying out different sources don't forget to audition the Ifi xDSD Gryphon too, it does a good job with all the IEM's and headphones I own and the ie900 is no exception, also its a very versatile device.

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I don't know about that one, sadly I don't have a spare three and a half grand either. I do have the first Aeon Flow Closed its a lot more sensitive then the Stealth though (105 vs 86 dB/mW) and there is plenty of power to drive the Flow. I tested with Massive Attack's Angel for the bass and...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I don't own and have never heard the Sig or the xCan so I can't say I afraid. I really haven't had much time either to form a fair opinion either, plus its still shiny and new so it beats everything at the moment. The thing about the Gryphon is its so versatile, driven from my N6ii+A02...

Hiby R2 is an option though because that doesn't cover the display.

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I've been testing Bluetooth and it sounds really good to me. I currently have the XSpace and XBass+ enhancements on too. My W80 never sounded so good. I only have the Fiio BTR5 to compare with but I think it sounds a fair bit better than that device. Only have one complaint so far, the Hi-Res...

Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

If anyone is looking for a swiss army knife type device to use as a balanced amp with N6ii+A02 you could do a lot worse than the new Ifi xDSD Gryphon. They are more or less exactly the same size too.

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Yes normal 3.5mm single ended is just that, normal single ended. S-Balanced is designed to reduce the cross-talk that "may" occur in the headphone/IEM cable itself by keeping the ground connection in the wire separate, L/R channels still share a common ground at the amp so we still have...

xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Yes correct, I have a 3.5mm TRRS to Pentacon adaptor that I use mostly as my Night Owl headphone has 4.4mm. Here is the ifi connection diagram, it doesn't help that its called "balanced" here and not s-balanced. They certainly do add to the confusion but essentially what they are saying is a...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

No problem, its not such a big deal replacing the batteries to be fair. That BMS device is not an exact match but I think it would work OK.

This is shown in the promo pic on Ifi's product page so I would think its what is included.
