    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

the squeaking is a consequence of their design decision, and is intended (not that they designed it to squeak, rather that their ideal design happens to). if you look at the metal yokes, they have some freedom of rotation within a cutout in the headband plastic, against an inverted peak that...

    Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

Can't recall where I saw this, but I remember someone measured capacitance of stock cables and senn HD650 was orders of magnitude higher than the others, so I imagine it is possible the HD700 cable has the same issue. Wish I could recall where I saw, but I think it was in the sound science area...

Feliks Audio Echo (new budget OTL amp)

I'm thinking about getting one of these, but the amp dimensions aren't listed, and I'm not quite sure it will fit in with my current desk space. anyone able to measure how deep this amp is? I'm also curious about how it pairs with sensitive headphones (most sensitive is Grado Hemp), as my...

    Audio-Technica ATH-WP900

Given that the treble is potentially problematic on these, ideally you'd be looking at pads that get your ears closer to the driver. Good luck, I'm curious to see how you feel about them :)

    Grado Fan Club!

Thanks for pointing to me towards the appropriate post, The size of this thread is slightly intimidating haha. As for the pads, its just the scratchiness, slightly irritating, but absolutely not a dealbreaker. I wonder if some of the loss of bass could be changed by adding an outer material...

    Grado Fan Club!

Hey, just giving my first post here. Recently went out on a limb and purchased the Hemp, despite not hearing Grados before, and have to say they're fantastic. Really nice for my taste in rock, metalcore, post-hardcore, but also excellent for vocals. They remind me a surprising amount of my...

    Audio-Technica ATH-WP900

WP-900 has enough bass emphasis that I don't find it lacking in subbass in any way whatsoever. YMMV. Treble is the achilles heel here, you have to be okay with some noticeable treble emphasis, and the vocal recession that comes from a obviously v-shaped signature.

Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. impressions thread

Interesting, so did you wrap the outside of the amp where the transformer is visible, or did you open it up and wrap the actual transformer? Did you use a metallic sheet/film? I see there are a number of types of these materials. Received it, and yeah, the hum is present on both of my Focals...

Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. impressions thread

Did Drop ever address this hum issue for owners of early models? I recently purchased one from another head-fier that was in the first batch. I didn't know such an issue existed, and no idea if it is present in the one I purchased (and am still waiting to arrive). If it hums is there some form...

    Audio-Technica ATH-WP900

Personally I could see where T5 might be preferable for something like classical. I have no experience with 1540 but that may be good as well, and have heard great things about the comfort and soundstage of it, and it measures flat but with a midbass emphasis. I think wp900 are not a huge...

Next ZEN CAN Signature edition! Which headphone's EQ Curve??? You decide.

I would love to see instead a desktop version of Diablo, just ditch the battery. Heck, it could even look like the Neo, but it seems backwards to me that the portable amp can output 5W and the only desktop aside from the flagship (Neo) is about 1W. Shouldn't portables cater to the portable...

    QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Every EQ setting that I've seen for these besides those simple one-band boosts are ridiculous. I believe someone said they had to set preamp to -14dB(?!) to meet their settings? This headphone really doesn't need EQ at all. I can understand a small bass boost or treble reduction, or mid boost...

    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread

With stock you know what you're getting. Is the treble a problem for you? if you're versed in using EQ you can replicate the correction that is made for this headphone on DIY Audio Heaven based on those measurements. -5db centered around the treble peak and this headphone really sings IMO

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

FWIW based on what I see in the pictures (there is one under 'Sound-Conclusion' that we can see clearly) that the 2020 version has the bar magnets visible from the outside, so it looks like the 2020 is the non-backplate version. The version that they originally reviewed was prior to the...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

So apparently this is the same driver as the old OG 400i? I wonder if they mean it is the same as the SMC version (with backplate) or if it is the same as the 2.5mm cable version (no driver backplate). Is anyone that has one willing to take a look? I find the version with the backplate better...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

While it is typically strongly suggested to have a speaker amp or such for HE-6, a beefy enough headphone amp does them pretty good justice. Using mine from a Lyr 2 and still have plenty of headroom on the amp, and they perform really well. I have the HE-6se, similar to the 6-screw.

    QUAD ERA-1 Thread

I think a lot of amps will fit the bill here, they really don't need much power but good quality always helps. I do like the punch and impact of Schiit amps and R2R DACs. I just figured I'd mention that I had a really positive meet impression comparing DACs in a quiet hall and was really...

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

I have been told again and again by their representative that they are waiting on a response in regards to my problem from their office. I am essentially being told my $1000 DAC is not worth making an actual call, instead we wait on a response email for multiple months, even as I reach back out...

not the PM-3, it has only one side connector. I think the HD700, Oppo PM-1 and PM-2 have the same as your Hifiman.

    QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Haha no prob. I actually misunderstood and thought you were thinking of buying the quads against those you listed. Also FWIW you're not missing much with the TH900. I've heard few headphones as offensive in the treble, and many of them were more revealing. The bass is impactful and actually...

    QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Don't be fooled, the quad is not particularly dark or lush. it just doesn't get that raspy/airy midrange quality that dynamic drivers have. To my ears, with the sheepskin pads it is brighter than the Elex, with velour they sound shockingly similar, but the quad is ever so slightly smoother. The...

Happens every time you move the EL-8 Open on your head. That headphone gets true vaccum level seal, and the crinkle happens regularly. So yeah, can defenitely happen with planar magnetic. I don't seem to be experiencing that with my new Quads, but I can't speak for the individual who is having...

    QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Hi, brand new here! Received these in the mail today, and I'm quite impressed with the combination of build and sound quality. Makes a nice pairing with my Elear (with elex pads). I'm very impressed with the treble as it feels very revealing for something that doesn't seem too harsh. actually in...

    Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

It is very strange to me to see the widespread acceptance of the harman target for measurements, whilst also accepting that a headphone measuring completely flat on the target will sound bright in the low and mid treble, with way too much treble energy overall. Seems like an inaccurate target...

    Philips Fidelio X3

I realize this, the information as I said, was from an early prototype heard in China, where some tech was discussed. It’s early on in the forums, and it clearly states this info. Again, could be wrong or some mid-translation, but tantalum is oddly specific, and is in fact used to make very...
