    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I decided between HE400i and the HD650. I got the Hifimans. I find them to be more exciting and overall "funnier". The Sennheisers are softer and somewhat muddy.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

It's true that the prices are often a lot higher. Import fees are so high too that it's often not any cheaper to order stuff online. 350 € was a pretty good deal. And if I had gotten a faulty pair from the US it would've taken a long time to replace.

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

NoisyNeighbour I ordered similar ones earlier and they were a little too tight in my opinion. The dimensions were the same as yours but I was worried they might scratch the paint on the headphones because the fit was so tight. The connectors move a little when you move your head so it rubs...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

@sharktopus I personally used these. They fit but protrude a little bit more than I'd want. Though they were still the best ones I could find.       If the jacks weren't offset so much it would accommodate a thicker plug.

Yea, I don't get that either. The general opinion here and on the Internet seems to be that Jotunheim is the best in its class.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I've had them for a few weeks and they are just fine in terms of build quality. The plugs are a bit wonky but these are made for home listening so no big problems there.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

Well, it depends. Some stock headphone cables have four conductors: two positives and two negatives, one of each for different sides. In case of a standard 6,3 mm jack, the two ground wires are simply soldered to the same pole on the plug. In a four conductor cable, if the stock plug is cut...

My Jotunheim should arrive next week as well as all the parts for a balanced cable. I'll post my impressions then.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

All from Ebay. The plugs I have in the picture didn't quite fit, had to order smaller ones. The outer diameter is smaller than the indentation in the headphones but for some odd reason the jacks aren't parallel to the bottom of the hole...   I ordered Neutrik XLR plugs and a 6,3 mm...

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

They now say "10 febr. sold out - new stock coming soon" on their site which I interpret as them having had that in stock yesterday, but being Dutch and spelling weird English I'm not sure. Well, hopefully they'll ship them to the customers soon.

Individually shielded two conductor cable with circular shell

I'm thinking of creating my own balanced headphone cable and for that I need cable that has two individually shielded and insulated conductors in a circular shell. The overall diameter should also be as small as possible, anything over 5 mm is getting a bit bulky and hard to use.   Here's a...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

What is the reason for the three pole connectors? The ring is not connected to anything. When I was listening to these at a local dealer they had a custom cable with mono plugs for each side. Any advantages or disadvantages?

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

I'll start by getting the Jotunheim with the built in DAC and perhaps later upgrade to a Modi Multibit. At the moment I'm struggling between HD600/650 and HE-400i, the DAC choice is much simpler.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

You clearly haven't read a whole lot of the thread. I've read every single post and most people really like it for what it's worth. That's one heck of a DAC for 100 $.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

That would be faster but I'd probably need to pay taxes and a huge shipping fee which would make it an expensive buy. Also if the unit was defected, or in case I needed to send it for repairs, I'd need to pay the shipping fees back to the US.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

I am really impressed with the specs and reviews of this product. I read all the messages in this discussion last weekend and got very excited. Now I'm waiting for the European supplier to get their hands on new stock so I can order one. Currently I don't have any DACs or amps so I'm intrigued...
