    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I'd say spend a little bit more and get the schiit jotunheim with the built in dac.   edit: just to add jotunheim is very synergistic with the HD 650.

What's the best amp for HD800

      Just fix your bottlehead crack.

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

Yeah probably not that low, but it does have triple the transconductance of 6080. My 7802 was cheaper than an 5998. Probably would be good to stock pile a few 7802 since I could see these are going to be very expensive in the future since I could only find one seller with it in stock. Doc I am...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

Crackatwoa is a good choice actually, for people who care about mids and musicality. Torpedo III will beat you up with the dynamics it throws at you. When matched with the HD 800 it's playing to the strengths of the HD 800, showing off it's dynamics and transient response just something that...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Well balanced amps just mean the ground between Left and Right Channel isn't shared and that's about it.   Well of course there are amps that do more than just that, some amplifiers are differential and balanced, a differential amplifier that is differential from input to output will reject...

Metrum Acoustics Musette NOS R-2R DAC (2015) Discussion thread

There was this one time for me when music sounded very dynamic but harsh. I thought it was my T3 causing it at first. But now I think it was the Musette burning in. It sounds much smoother now.

What's the best amp for HD800

@deserat For me it's Torpedo III or mainline. Both parafeed, no feedback amps, the difference is differential. I think if you like the crack the mainline has that flavor but clean and mild, but in a direct comparison Torpedo III would outperform in dynamics and transparency.   The crack is...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

Does anyone have an 5998 tube for sale? I am mainly interested in a tube that will lower the output impedance of my crackatwoa.

Interesting issue with my Sennheiser HD cans

I'd put super glue on that tab.   For extra security, I'd also put dynamat extreme on the left and right side of the lolly pop driver to secure the driver to the housing, so if any other tabs fail you got dynamat to hold the driver in.   Just the left and right spots with dynamat, no need to...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I currently own the Crackatwoa and Torpedo III and built a crack in the past. I'd recommend you to build a Torpedo III, you get summit-fi performance at mid-fi price. It just stumps the Crack in transients, dynamics, clarity, details, though a leaner sounding amp.   Also if you are interested...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

sssn The HD 650 has the opposite of a plastic feel since the frequency response usually drops in sibilance prone regions. Make sure your drivers are mounted well and the cups are all firmly secured and nothing is loose. Also if you removed the foam in front or behind the driver you will get...

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Yeah, plugging the vents up with electrical tape sucked. But covering it with breathable foam is amazing though, it didn't feel closed in. I basically just glued foam to the inside of the cups.   Well I just see a bunch of felt inside the driver unit when I examined it. It covered everything...

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Has anyone modded the front foam infront of the drivers? my guess is that sony put the foam to lower the treble. The MA 900 seems to be a bit blurry in the upper mids - low treble region.

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

It's not about the money and honestly I think the HD 800 isn't for you. Based on what you like, The HD 650 is smooth sounding and yet you like to smooth out the sound even more with a tube amp and mullard tubes. The HD 800 is opposite of smooth it's like a razor, it will cut up your source...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

@Beztis   I think you'll do yourself a favor if you just stuck with your HD 650, my HD 650 has better mids than my HD 800, it's more musical and more easy to listen to. In picture terms the HD 650 is natural, while the HD 800 is like an image with sharpness and contrast increased. Also don't...

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Love this headphone. It doesn't have the clarity or instrument separation as an HD 650, but it has good sound stage and tone. Attempted to cover the vents with electrical tape but it made it too bloomy. So I covered it up with foam instead and it is sounds amazing. It boosted the bass and also...

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

From what I have heard is that the resistor makes the MA 900 sound the same between different amps. But removing the resistor allows it to scale up with good amps, also a resistor in the signal path will increase the output impedance of an amplifier.

    Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Going to have an resistor modded MA900 coming in tomorrow. I hope the MA 900 is a less detailed, HD 800 because the HD 800 is just too much for bad recordings.

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

The HD 650 has more bass quantity simply because it would need to be louder to compensate for the darker treble. If you matched the volume of both headphones in according to it's treble content then HD 650 will always be more bassy, if you matched both headphones according to mids at 1khz then...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Not bass imo, the HD 650 extends really well I would rate them having more bass than the HD 800. Details is a tricky one too, I feel the HD 650 does has the similar amount of micro details but it's smoother and more subtle, while the HD 800 details cuts through like a sharp knife and...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

The crap cables are bad mostly because of a bad soldering from the cable to the connectors. Mass produced ROHS cables are using lead free solder which isn't the best solder to use.
