    Grado modders go Magnum

I had the v5 in Cabillas cups and they sounded great even before any amount of significant burn-in time. This was my 4th pair of "Grados" and every single time I ended up selling them just because open phones don't work in my household/office (don't know why I keep going back to new builds!)...

    Grado modders go Magnum

The circle is now complete, I present to you my finished pair of Magnum X headphones pimped out with Cabillas cups, Canare cable, G-cushion and Sony headband. Bonus points for the mix of acetone (removed the Sony lettering) and Grado pads smell.

    Grado modders go Magnum

Along those lines, there's nothing stopping someone from sanding down the lettering and gluing the veneer on there directly instead of multiple layers which may present its own challenges...   Process could be; remove the ring, sand the lettering, glue veneer on ring, cut out excess...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Well here we go, music to my ears! Not the final build but already these bad boys are blowing me away. Stock Grado headband, reverse quarter mod comfies, cabillas cup and canare cable. The fit of the X drivers in the cup was great. After sanding the interior of the cups, all I had to do was...

    Grado modders go Magnum

I always wanted to try the G-cushion before but their price is a little number in Canada (65$ + tx at the local audio shop). So when I found a deal for a pair that had been used for a few hours only for cheap, I jumped on them. I may end up going back to L-cushion but at least I will have...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Just got an "Attempted Delivery" notification from Canada Post, my Magnum X are here! That means they'll be available for pickup tomorrow at the local post office. I can't wait to get the soldering iron out and give them a go... I am still waiting on my G-Cushions and have yet to make a final...

    Grado modders go Magnum

I'll take one for the team and take them off your hands    While there's still no sign of the X drivers at my place, I did get a nice little package from the postman today.

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]

It is definitely heavier than your average pen but it's got a nice weight to it, not too heavy, just enough to know you have a quality instrument in your hands :-) It is a rollerball, not a ballpoint. Here's two more I have with me at work. Pardon the crappy pictures taken with a cell phone. I...

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]

Show and tell. This is a pen I turned on my lathe a couple of years back. It's a Jr. Statesman with rhodium and black titanium. The pen itself is a gemstone leopard jasper.

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

Another Ikea stand with a TP holder instead of a table leg and I used different knobs for the cable holder part. Base is pine that I cut and routed to shape, stained and varnished to match the night stand.

I think i'm convinced, I'm going to build an a47 amp. (this is slightly off topic but this thread has it all )     Quote:

I tried a hand drill but cracked the side of my cup so.... couple of minutes later and some CA glue I was back with a half-finished semi-hole. In the end, a coping saw, by hand was the best way to go at it, at least for me.   Quote:

I may try two cables, one with 4 and one with 8 conductors and see. Do you think 4 x 24awg is too small or there shouldn't be a problem.... But at this point is it any better than the stock Grado cable?   Quote:

    SR60-Mod

I think I'm going to try doing this... Got plenty of Cat5 cable lying around. All I need now is some brown shoelaces (to match the brown J$ headbank) and some heatshrink and I'm good to go...   Quote:

    SR60-Mod

Finally got my hands on some locking collars... 1.28$ later, this is what we end up with. I like having the cups exactly where I need them, all the time. I also shorten the cord, quite a bit, down to about 4 feet and reterminated with a radio shack 3.5mm plug. This will do until I decide to...

    New Headphone Stand

I picked up the stand tonight and did a bit of modding, Grado style, to my new stand.... I just knew that Grado pizza box foam would come in handy one day, and that day was today. I went crazy with a bread knife and carved some foam up to fit the metal clip and make a nice comfy rest for my...

    SR60-Mod

I think I'm going to go ahead and proceed with a recable on my SR-80is.   I think i've narrowed it down to the following components   - Neutrik NYS231BG 3.5 Stereo Mini plug Cryo Treated   - Mogami 2534 Neglex Cryo Treated      This is a quick paint image of how I'm...

    SR60-Mod

Hey Chris, those really look nice.   Do you mind telling me (and commenting on the use of) the two different Y-Splits you are using? The one from the 325 and the one from the 60...   I'm also trying to find locking collars for the cup posts (attached to the headband) locally but without...

What case do you guys use to carry your IEMs and your mp3 player?

I have the same exact case from China on EBay.    Problem for me is that I can't put both the clip+ and my IEM without squeezing the memory foam on the IEM... it's just too tight. I wish it was a bit bigger but oh well, the whole thing including shipping ran me less than 1.50$ CAN    Quote:
