    My DIY electrostatic headphones

I'm not sure that the circuit boards that I experimented with would be flat enough to do spacers as thin as you're talking about because those aren't perfectly flat.  Maybe they could be compressed into flatness.  I'd have to be more careful and probably spend a little more money to get stuff...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

Ok, the pair that are in the video have since been updated.  I use a thinner wire now, with a little terminal block for the wiring.  They sound quite good.  Definitely good enough to listen to, though I can't excuse the frequency response, which probably looks ugly.  It's never totally...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

It was a Koss extension cable.  I bought two different E-90s on eBay recently, because they tend to be cheaper than any other standalone amp.  One of them came with the extension cable, which I used for this.  I've never had a pair of electrostatics before building one.  I also have a Stax pro...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

I sent you a PM about the source for the film.  Most of the other materials are normal commodities, and prices can vary a bit by source.  If you post a list of materials and sources, just make sure to clarify that it may be possible to save money by taking note of what the suggested item is and...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

If you want to know what mine are a clone of, I'll tell you what my inspirations were to make what I have:   1.  My Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pros plugged into my Schiit Vali is as good as it gets to me so far.  That sounds great and is extremely comfortable.  I love the way Beyer's grey velour...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

The seller's name is redplanet22.  He was easy to work with, it's just that the discs were a little larger than 85mm, probably close to 1.5mm too big, though I have not measured it exactly.  If you're asking him to cut for you, use Imperial units.

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

Yeah, I've read the entire thread, but it's actually been a while for most of it.  This experiment has had some false starts and is a long time coming, but the results already were better than I had hoped for the first sample.  I was expecting a screechy sound with very little bass, and found...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

Ok, so I got impatient and had a listen tonight.  Only one song, so as not to tempt fate, as this wasn't a commercially ready pair, let's just say.  I had to know, and they didn't bite me.   I wasn't quite sure what to expect them to sound like, as it's hard to judge from the measurements and...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

I'm shaking right now, because I put together a scary pair and put them on and got away with it.  I would have told anybody else not to put it on, but I just had to.  They sounded fantastic.  No regrets.  There's another message coming, but I'll reply to the questions because they're good and...

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

I completed a pair of drivers, but only one worked.  I'll rebuild the other tomorrow.  The one that worked sounded really good and clean.  The audio from the video isn't bad, but doesn't and can't convey how it really sounds.

    My DIY electrostatic headphones

It's been a while and some stuff got in the way for a while, but here's a fully working driver that I built today to verify that the materials were sufficient and the old Koss energizer works.  I plan to use these materials and methods to now build a pair of drivers into an existing pair of...

    The Beyerdynamic T51p Discussion Thread

They look the same unless you look closely.  The 1350 has a single entry cord, and the headband can be spread wide for different fit and tightness of grip.  As I understand it, the 1350 squeezes a bit harder, too.  I've not heard the 51, but I love my 1350 for portable use.

Call Centre Headphones - What would Head-Fi members recommend?

I work in a call center, and I'd love to have a headset based on my DT990s.  Dat comfort.

    Koss A250 - WHOA!!!!!

Wouldn't the ESP950 pads be the same thing?  They're $5 a pair from Koss.

    Koss Portapro Thread

I got my KTXPros for $5.  I'm impressed with the sound, but they're very uncomfortable to me, and they're not adaptable to the other mounting methods afforded to the KSC and (S)Portapros.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Premium ? how to tell which model

I think that only the 600 ohm actually has a stamp on the plug.  You can probably get out the multimeter, as I'm not even sure impedance was stamped on the back of the driver.

    Q701 impressions thread

The Q701 is power hungry.  I'm not a serious gamer, and my outboard DA converter is the Berhinger UFO that I use to record vinyl sometimes.  Nothing special.  The Q701 does sound very good with the Schiit Vali, with every source I've tried so far.

    Q701 impressions thread

It was very clear to me from the get-go that the "leather" top of the Q701 wasn't.  Mine makes some tiny noises when wiggled.  Though the lime is a very pretty color, the cables were disappointingly faded looking compared to the headphones themselves.  Contrary to some people, I love the super...

    Wine Pairings

Here's one I really would and have enjoyed: Ballatore sparkling wine and DT990.  Kind of thick but sparkling and sweet up top.

    Vivitar/iConcepts DJ headphones

I've seen them at my Walmart.  They have them at the check lanes.  We ought to get Tyll to test a pair.  Would they dethrone United Airlines' pitiful entry from being the worst looking graphs?  Are they worse than Monster Beats Solo?  The world needs to know.

    Superlux Express Train

I'll let somebody else go first.  Those are a bit more expensive than I'm used to Superlux's products being.  I paid about $50 for the HD-330, and about $35 for the HD-681.  I don't doubt that prices had to go up with features and so on, but I'd expect these to settle out a bit cheaper than $68...

    Superlux Express Train

Seen from another angle, it's there.  Nice.  I take back what I said.  Maybe it is perfect.   http://www.exound.com/modules/news/view.article.php?2784/c8

    Superlux Express Train

See, now that's too magnified and I start seeing what's wrong with it.  The cable detach-ability is just gone, and it contributes to the mystique of the HD-25II.  The field serviceability of that model appeals to the tinker in me.  Since I know they will be good but not perfect, having it come...

Moving beyond the DT990 Pro 250ohm

Ok, what I was really getting at is that whether built or bought, it might take electrostatics to really sound enough better.  I've not encountered any that were more comfortable at all, nor anything but a sideways step at the $500 ish level.  I figured planars like you recommended would...
