    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

What differences apart from the bass, hehe. Mmm , the midrange is a bit further back than on the 880, but it's basically the exact same quality, together with the airy treble it totally works for me. It's warm and clear, sparkly and detailed, with a beautiful midrange to hold things together...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

The bass on the 880 is by no means bad , but always when I go to the dt 990 , I think to myself ah yes, that is the full sound I was missing. I think the 880 is really well tuned, it's just a matter of preference and the suitability to your music tastes. In my case it just means the 990 is the...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Try to get your hands on a nice used vintage Marantz or something. Nothing is quite as good with them imo.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Thanks, I was hoping you would respond :). I read on kent rockwell's site that he wrote the load of the dt880 is resistive and that makes them easy to drive, i don't know what he means by that, but I think it also has to do with why it isn't affected by the amp's impedance as much, is that right?

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

That can happen if you for instance use an integrated amplifier where they put the headphone circuit with a high impedance, many have typically 120-150 ohm. I had this with my marantz pm7200, you can hear how the bass gets very loose, it was even worse on the hd598. But it also depends on...

Looking for closed-back equivalent to the DT990

I would just go with the DT770... You simply retain the Beyer sound, yeah it doesn't sound totally like the 990 or 880. But if you like the 990 you'll probably love the 770 as well. I owned all three of them and definitely feel they are similar in many ways.

But how can this be, the HD600 already scales infinitely?

I really like the DT880 and 990, but I have a special place for the X1 and X2. They just sound so right. HD600/650 are old man headphones. Haven't heard the AKG's.

HE-400 VS HE400i VS Fidelio X2 (Need Input)

How much of a change is hard to say. If I say 5%... 5% of what? Still doesn't mean anything. I would say the midrange on the X2 is more pronounced, it sounds a bit airier. I think it's generally right on to say that the X2 is a more moderate X1. It still isn't a natural sounding headphone...

HE-400 VS HE400i VS Fidelio X2 (Need Input)

Dunno, the X2 sounds a bit better all in all than the X1, but the X1 is lovely too. I feel that even though they are a bit different in terms of tuning, they still share the exact same strengths and weaknesses. Honestly I have to admit I kinda miss the X1's signature lol. Philips did a heck...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Probably because those amps all aim for transparency (I know for a fact the O2 and the DX do) and the only thing holding them back from it would be insufficient power. But as you seem to have noticed, the HD650 is quite an easy headphone to drive, because its sensitivity is very high. In...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I went from X1 to X2 last week actually. I would say the X2 sounds better across the spectrum. As much as I like the X1, I have always thought it is a little too dense in the bass. The X2 fixes that and has more presence in especially the midrange, which is most welcome. Meanwhile you keep...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

To me the DT880 was the headphone that I wanted the HD600 to be, the only thing I will say is the timbre on the HD600 is unequalled and you can't really find it anywhere else. That does make it a special headphone and it has many other great qualities too. Oh well... But good luck with finding a...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

You are not alone. They do my head in as well. I have also tried the HD558 and HD598. I have owned all of them for at least a few months. However only the 598 works for me. The others just kill my ears. After an hour or so I just really can take no more. No idea what it is. I think it has...

Please explain it to me in the most elementary way possible - difference between amp and dac?

Yeah, but distortion is additive, so even if your HD800 did bad and your DAC did better, the flaws of your DAC might still lead to audible problems.   Regardless though, you are right that headphones are the place to spend most of your money. And built in soundcards are great! I use my Fidelio...

Please explain it to me in the most elementary way possible - difference between amp and dac?

Again, a DAC does not equal a cleaner signal. A DAC equals translating the signal from digital to analog. It's not about "better", or "more". It either does that job to the point that 100% of the information is flawlessly translated to analog, or it messes up and loses information. That's all...

Please explain it to me in the most elementary way possible - difference between amp and dac?

Nothing. You don't buy bright earphones if you don't want a bright sound. You can add bass boost, you can add an amp with tone controls to tone down the treble, you can buy a DAP that doesn't su ck. But you are now jumping through hoops when you could have just bought appropriate earphones to...

Please explain it to me in the most elementary way possible - difference between amp and dac?

It's actually the other way around; all DACs that have an output will also be amps, but amps are never DACs. Your cellphone has a DAC, but it also has an output, so it's also an amp. However, you know those big speaker amps with knobs and controls and stuff? They're amps, but not DACs...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

In the first few weeks that I owned the X1, there was a period that it seemed to bother me quite a lot. But as I got used to these headphones, that totally vanished. Now I don't hear it anymore, and I'm not even sure whether it was actually an issue in the first place or something imagined...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

This is excellent thanks. One of the VERY few unbiased, reasonable comparisons of these headphones out there.   Personally, this goes a very long way in convincing me to stick with my X1, especially because of my music preferences.

Is It Really Worth 'Upgrading' Sennheiser HD 580/600/650 Cables?

You can summarize most of that with the word bias. The funny thing about bias though is that many people think they're not susceptible to it.

If you wanna bring that out as a general message, be my guest, maybe you will convince some people of it. Don't bother with me though.
