As a Fugaku owner, I actually think the Mason ST might be better for you, based on your criteria. Have you tried it?

    I had to blind-buy. I would say it's a pretty safe blind-buy. :stuck_out_tongue:

    This is the 8w Ultimate. There’s a 4w and 8w Shirogane, and there’s no 8w non-Ultimate version.

Selling a Brise Shirogane 8w, purchased in Oct. 2023. Comes with original packaging/papers. This is a fantastic cable, as evidenced by the fact that the cable for Brise's revered Fugaku uses the same type of wire (I recently bought a Fugaku, which is why I'm selling this). With respect to...

To be clear, they couldn't have. The IEM is unique from all others in that the crossovers are in the amp, not in the IEMs themselves. The amp is unique in that it individually amps each set of drivers. This design is what makes it sound as good as it does. Brise is happy to sell you cables that...

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

You’re looking for the Chronicle. 😛 Not quite the same thing, but imagine a tuning in between the Ragnar and Ronin and with a great bass foundation with amazing stage.

    Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000M - Coming Soon

Depends on the IEM though. SP3k works pretty well with the Chronicle, for example, which is a sensitive IEM. But definitely agree that the amp section can be a problem with many IEMs.

The L&P E7 is fairly compact and sounds amazing (saying this as someone who also owns an SP3000). It lacks streaming, but I can get very good sound quality streaming to it from my iPhone with the FiiO BT11 over LDAC. Worth considering if you only stream occasionally rather than most of the time.

Depends 100% on the implementation. Agree with you on 622b, but the BCD is fantastic on the Mason ST, for example,

I tried Orpheus, Shirogane and Fifth Ode on the APX SE. All were great, in different ways, and definitely a step up from the stock cable. Found the stage too narrow with the stock and the mid bass too thick. Shiro was firmly my favorite. It leans out the mid bass while making the sub bass very...

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Whenever this discussion comes up, I find it funny that the "cables don't make a difference crowd" is universally comprised of people who have never heard a high-end cable. I have a PWA Orpheus, Brise Shirogane and Eletech Ode to Laura, each of which retails for well over $2k. I didn't buy them...

    Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000

No. We’re not talking about volume; we’re talking about slam, authority, ability to drive a DD or EST to its full potential. Anni through SP3k sounds quite anemic. There’s quite a big step up in sound quality when using a portable amp to drive IEMs like the Anni and Storm, that are known to be...

    Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000M - Coming Soon

I think it’s partly a function of the IEM. With power-hungry IEMs I can tell the SP3K’s amp section is lacking vs. some other DAPs. But with a more sensitive IEM like the Chronicle, the SP3K does great.

    Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000

With what IEM? I'm wondering if the SP3000M might have a less capable amp section given the smaller size. Which might make any audio differences more noticeable with more power-hungry IEMs vs. more sensitive IEMs.

I've been very much enjoying the Chronicle the last few days. Don't have time for a full review, as it's crunch time at work, but just some quick thoughts -- I would describe it as preserving the treble magic of the Ragnar, with its amazing treble detail and extension, but a little less bright...

    Aroma audio product impressions.

Didn’t try those, but I liked Orphy with it, as it helped tame the treble.

Sorry, I didnt process the fact you were making a distinction between voltage and gain! You mean the voltage that the source is feeding into the amp relative to the gain setting of the amp itself? I do think input voltage has more of an impact, but still think I’ve perceived other differences...

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.

Mason ST is very different from all of those. Apples and oranges. Warm, lush, realistic mids (like for vocals) are a key difference vs. U12t and Odin, as is the BCD which provides a much greater sense that you're listening to full-size headphones rather than IEMs (as they provided added note...

I disagree, I don't think it's just a volume thing. Frequency response actually changes (well, I haven't measured this, but I'm convinced it does) as I believe that different drivers/driver types are more/less source sensitive (ESTs in particular seem to benefit from a better amp. Maybe DD as...

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Wider stage, an uptick in detail/resolution (most noticeable in the mids), slightly warmer mids, more solid and powerful bass. Treble might be a tiny amount darker but not dark in the least.
  25. MRT-Man

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

I’ve only ever heard the Ragnar and Ronin. And this reminds me a lot more of the Ragnar, by which I mean the treble detail/extension and the technicals (separation, layering etc.). But as I said, with a little more thickness/weight in the treble and great mids and bass. Stage width and dynamics...
