Red-grey-gold is my preferred combination, too. Have been grooving on these for a while and they're my go-to at the moment. Thanks for a thorough review.

@avitron142: I'm not an expert in the relationship between "Class A" and output power. Am guessing (hoping) someone in the know will chime in with an answer.   Did just get another update from Aune saying that they have upped the battery life on the production models of the M2 to 7.5+ hours. Not...

Added the following to the review this evening:   RE. Digital Out: Aune are currently working on an external docking connect through the Mini HDMI port, which will bring digital output capabilities (Coax, AES, I2S, etc.) via a receiver module to high end DAC.   RE. Battery Life: Aune states that...

Nice write-up, Vince. I think a lot of newbies will benefit from your description of the different driver types. Enjoyed this one a lot.

@twister6 and @Brooko: Thanks Alex and Paul. Appreciate the feedback. Yes, lots of potential, but some niggles to iron out. Hopefully some FW tweaks can eke more life out of the battery.

@Arnauds: You're welcome. My understanding is that Aune is aiming for release in a couple of weeks. Hopefully by then some of the kinks are ironed out. It really is great on the ears though!

@KC33, glad you liked it. It is an upgrade on the X3ii to a similar extent that the X5ii is an upgrade on the X3ii. I have both Fiio products, and purchasing the X5ii didn't result in me ditching the X3ii. Differences are there but they're subtle, and other factors (size and portability, 1 vs. 2...

Great review on usability Vince. Just received the review unit and am unfamiliar with Android, so some of your tips and pointers helped save me some frustration. Am using it in Music Mode, and very impressed with the clean, neutral sound. Like you say, the X7 really does highlight the signature...

Review by 'hakushondaimao' on item 'Cayin N5 DSD Lossless Music Player'

Little birds began twittering several months ago (early June, to be precise) about a possible little brother for the highly respected Cayin N6. Having just reviewed the N6 but not pulled the trigger on a purchase, the idea of a smaller, scaled-down, less expensive Cayin DAP excited me. I'm on...

HP01 was suggested to me as a good starter amp when I first got into Head-Fi. Never pulled the trigger, but it's still on my watch list. Now I'm intrigued by the 02. Thanks for a good review.

Review by 'hakushondaimao' on item 'FiiO EX1 Nanotech Titanium Diaphragm In-Ear Monitors'

The Fiio EX1 is the first Fiio-branded IEM. If it looks familiar, that’s because it is basically a re-tuned Dunu Titan 1 (a collaboration made obvious by the appearances of both the Fiio and Dunu names on various parts of the product).   The Titan has an excellent reputation within Head-Fi...

Review by 'hakushondaimao' on item 'Sound Blaster E5 - 24-bit/192kHz High-Resolution USB DAC & Portable Headphone Amplifier'

Back in July, Lucas (@LucasCL) of Creative put out a call on Head-Fi for reviewers for three Sound Blaster products: the Roar 2 portable wireless speaker, the Aurvana In-Ear3 Plus IEM, and the Sound Blaster E5 portable headphone amplifier. I was lucky to be selected to review the E5 amplifier...
