Brahms' Piano Quintet - Your Favorite Recording?

Takacs Quartet and Stephen Hough really does it for me. I think it's even better than the Emerson/Fleisher recording, which is saying a lot.

Two Classical music questions: Beethoven and Stravinsky recommendations

To supplement the Beaux Arts Trio on modern instruments try the recordings by the Florestan Trio, which are excellent. They have recorded all of Beethoven's music for piano trio and the 4 volumes were at one time available at the BMG music clubs (YourMusic.com and BMGMusic.com). Volumes may...

Looking for some classical music similar to this

Look for albums with La Folia or La Folia d'Espagne in them. It's another very famous canon -- probably the platinum no. 1 hit of the baroque period -- that worked its way all through Europe from Spain. Handel used it as did Corelli before him and later it was used to great effect on the...

Just out of the wrapper: I can't judge if it's the best conducted M4 around, for that I have to rely on DH. What I can say is that this is consistent with Fischer's very high performance standards. It's definitely a Mahler 4th to enter the ranks of reference performances. My only...

I did a search at BMG music (not YourMusic) for Julia Fischer and got a little notice that one of her albums was about to released on the site; and would I like a notice when it's available. With BMG on board, YourMusic is sure to follow. I'll bet that it's her first DG album: Bach Violin Concertos.
