    Autoswitch: AC- vs. battery-powered

Is there a simple way to make my amp powered via the battery when no AC is available, but use the AC if it is plugged in? I was going to just put a two-way switch next to the AC socket, but maybe that is stupid.

    grease on your tools?

What is that grease that coats all the new tools, e.g. wire strippers, electricians knife, etc. (I got them from Sears) Should I be greasing all my tools with the same stuff?

My Fluke 110 DMM is Toast.

it's probably shorted. Use the meter to test for resistance across the leads, see what happened.

    hand drills

Oh by the way.. Is there a reason why the brace would be unsuitable for anything as opposed to a crank-style drill? It looks like the modern braces are chucked to accept pretty much any bit you put in it.

    magnifying

OK, here's another question for you guys: I've been looking into ways of magnifying what I see, partially to see the parts more closely, and partly to be able to sit further away from the soldering iron (heat + flux ugh..) when I'm working. I like the idea of clip-on lenses (loupes they're...

    hand drills

Yeah that's just it. Obviously the geared model will have higher rpm's than the brace, while the brace would have higher torque and more precise/intuitive control. So the geared model might be the closest I could get to a power drill without power. I know I definitely won't use it that...

DC power supply for battery-powered amp

DC power supply for battery-powered amp

tangent! THANK YOU for answering all my questions!! found the post you're talking about: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...threadid=20878 That WM080 looks good (I notice it says "0.5%" ripple as opposed to the "1%" that was listed for everything I had seen). But, it is 24 volts, and...

DC power supply for battery-powered amp

Aah! I've tried everything I can to find a linear-regulated supply (online), and I still can't find one! Where do you usually get yours?

DC power supply for battery-powered amp

I have this.. I think.. CMOY amp that JMT built for me a while back, and it takes 2 9V batteries right now. But, as I have learned a wee bit about electronics, I feel like modifying it to also let me plug it in to the wall. So I went over to Radio Shack and got a 15V (up to 1000mA) adapter --...

    Is Your Memory TOO GOOD?

Well this definitely sounds strange to me. I'd say you're all just tooting your own horn. (the ones actually complaining about their flawless memory, that is ) Either that or you've gotta be the worst pessimists I've ever seen. If you're recalling what's going to happen next all the time...

What can you guys tell me about vision correction?

I thought about this same exact thing about a year ago (when I was 17 too, hmm ), and immediately did some research on it. (i.e. not asking a bunch of people on a headphone message board ) Anyway, I figure that the basic cause of my problem (exactly like yours -- fine in one eye, nearsighted in...

    who uses winamp? other player?

Select them all (Ctrl+A, or you could click+drag a box around everything, etc.. so many ways!), right-click, Play. Bam! Instant listening nirvana, and it's so user-friendly! Windows Media Player.. always there when you need it.

    rechargeable batteries question

I'd guess you could put a wire in connecting the + and - terminals. And then make sure the battery doesn't get too hot.

Hirsch, why does thomasdistributing recommend that your charger output at least 10.5 volts, then?

    Rechargeable 9V batteries

I think that formula assumes that you're using the Plainview charger, though. (or at least it assumes that you've got enough voltage to fully charge the battery) I'm trying to find out if this Rayovac charger has enough voltage to fully charge the Plainview batteries. I just bought it a couple...

    Rechargeable 9V batteries

All right, I was just looking for some NiMH 9V batteries, and found the actual 9.6-volt batteries at thomas-distributing. However, they say that you should have a charger that has an output of at least 10.5 volts in order to charge them fully. I looked at my Rayovac PS9 9-volt battery charger...
