Off the wall isn't it? My Samsung dual drivers cost me approximately sweet F.A (OK £11 delivered!) as an aftermarket item. I'm a little surprised that Apple's (not cheap!) dual BA IEMs get a certain amount of reviews while Samsung's (very cheap!) dual dynamics get approximately zero coverage and...

Review by 'julian67' on item 'Sennheiser CX 270 Noise-Reduction Headphones (Black)'

I bought these on ebay.co.uk for £10.99 which is about $18 US or €13. They are a discontinued product, hence the low price, and bought from a retailer called "uk**seller". These are genuine Sennheiser products in sealed retail package, nicely made of good materials and fully up to the usual...

Review by 'julian67' on item 'Hifimediy Sabre USB DAC'

I wanted a small, cheap USB DAC for an mpd music server. The server makes my lossless music collection and some internet radio streams available wherever I am - at home typically via mpd clients on PC and Android, and away from home via mpd client and streaming using SSH tunnels on laptop and...

Reply to review by 'julian67' on item 'Sennheiser MOMENTUM'

Sorry, no plans on buying the Takstars (or clones) and as they aren't available locally I can't try them in a store. After getting my Momentums I soon lost interest in cheap, closed headphones and don't expect to be buying another pair unless something unfortunate happens with the Sennheisers.

Review by 'julian67' on item 'Digital Silence DS-101A Stereo Analogue Ambient Noise Cancelling Headset with Microphone - Black'

I bought these on amazon.co.uk for about £17 (US$28/€21) I initially bought these with a long return rail journey in mind and was expecting to be able to write a review that dealt with their effectiveness on bus/taxi, train and tube (I also had some less than charitable hopes that they might...

Reply to review by 'julian67' on item 'Superlux HD661'

Sorry, I won't be trying any more Superlux ;-) I think they have their place and they have some good qualities but I stand by my assessment that these can only sound reasonable with a hardware mod or with a good equaliser, and that those faults which cannot be corrected by altering frequency...

Thank you. These were way beyond my normal budget too but I had some rare good fortune (a small tax rebate), was dissatisfied with various budget closed headphones, saw a pair of Momentums at a good price and couldn't resist. I don't expect to spend so much on headphones ever again. They are the...

Hi Zubaru, thank you for your feedback. Yes the case is OK, it definitely isn't a deal breaker. I wanted to make my review as comprehensive as possible so that's why I noted the difference between the really excellent old Shure cases and the OK new ones at roughly the same price point...

Review by 'julian67' on item 'Sennheiser MOMENTUM'

I bought my Momentums as a used item from a fellow UK based Head-Fi member via this board's "For Sale" section. They are as new and I paid £155 including delivery. This is about US $252 or €186. I have the circumaural type in brown as shown in the product image. Motivation for purchase: I live...

Reply to review by 'julian67' on item 'Monoprice 8320 IEM'

"You can't argue with my ears"....but apparently you can argue with mine :-) "You can't argue with my ears" ranks with "talk to the hand..." and "lalalalalala I can't hear you lalalalala". I don't know why lJokerl likes the 8320. It's his opinion so ask him, not me. The Monoprices have really...

I'm not sure why it's so hard for people reading my review to note that I had no problem getting a good seal with a variety of tips. That includes Comply tips, Sennheiser tips, triple flange silicones, and now additionally Earphones Plus foam tips (actually bought to use with SuperFi 5 but fit...

Reply to review by 'julian67' on item 'Sansa Fuze+ 8GB Black MP3 Player SDMX20R-008GK-E57,Black'

If audio quality is the most important thing then get the Fuze+ because it doesn't make intrusive noises like the Clip series and older versions of the Fuze. It also has enough CPU power to run EQ and crossfeed and database updates and PictureFlow or games all at the same time and without any...

I did some more careful level matching of Fuze+ vs H140 by feeding a recorder with 1000 Hz tone played from headphone jack through IEM to microphone. I matched levels at normal and very loud levels to within a very tiny fraction of a dB. The results turned out exactly the same as doing it...

Yes, all the annoying noises I knew from the Clip+ and Fuze v2 are gone and the Fuze+ matches a high quality IDE disk based player of a decade ago. It even has the trademark hiss. Progress! :-)

Thanks for responding. Agreed, I'm pleased I have a choice of players as I don't think Sandisk care much about longevity or build quality or anything except hitting the bang for buck sector with their giant marketing hammer. As for the sound I recall someone speculating that the Clip+ sounded...

It's a different matter but with the same driver :-) Relevance: people claim that of this family of 60 ohm Koss 'phones certain ones use different drivers and that this accounts for significant audible differences. In fact the audible differences are easily accounted for by position and...

The letter from Koss states in plain unambiguous English that the drivers are the same except they look different. Measurements of the drivers show no significant difference. If you want to believe something else that's fine.
