    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

Yep, the original cable had gone all stiff, so they've been re-cabled. I'm also making a new headband but struggling a bit with my sewing skills and getting the pleather to look nice and fit right.

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

A Daiso store opened up nearby (Japanese dollar store) and I went to have a look. I found these bag hanger things that work quite well as headphone hangers hanging from my bookshelf.

    Pain! :D :) :| :/ :( >:(

Nothing spectacular has happened to me, just regular DIY wounds. I've slipped and burned myself with soldering irons many times and sliced up my fingers and thumbs with a scalpel a number of times too. These things mostly happen when I'm doing something silly, and my brain/conscience tells me...

Wow, stunning work, MrClean. I love the way the grain curves in the recessed parts of the Bijou.

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

Thank you everyone. Problem solved, I've gone and purchased a Fluke 87-IV. An 87-V would have been more than enough for me, but they're so popular I've seen them going for not much less than the 87-IV, which is a better specced meter anyway. I've seen some go for cheaper but that's uncalibrated...

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

Thanks Tangent, I've read some of your articles but I'll have another read and look at the forum links also. I had a look at the U1272A last night and while it does look quite nice, $460 new is a bit of a stretch over what second hand Flukes are available for.

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

Thanks for all the comments. And thanks MisterX for mentioning the option of Agilent meters. From what I've seen so far Agilent have been the leaders in the bench meter market whereas Fluke were better regarded, or more well established in the handheld market. I've probably been rushing into a...

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

And thanks for the tip about temperature measurement, John. I hadn't thought about it much but that definitely rules out the 177.

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

I don't really have room for a bench meter. And I don't really need the extra counts the 87-IV has over the 87-V but thought it wouldn't be a bad thing if it doesn't cost much more. I have watched some videos about the 189/289 and those do look too big for a handheld, but the 87-IV looks like it...

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

Would an 87-V be preferable over the 87-IV, which I've read is basically the same as the 187? It looks like a better spec'ed meter and only about $50 more than what I've seen 87-Vs go for on eBay recently.

Looking for a new DMM, being wooed by Fluke

I've been looking at multimeters as all I have now is a $30 one from Jaycar. The biggest thing I don't like about it is how long it takes to get a final reading after it overshoots and wobbles around before settling on a value; it can take a few seconds which I find annoying. I really want...

[Oscilloscope CRT TV] I can "see" music.

Whoa, nice project. Now you've got me looking at the Mac 512k sitting in the corner as a prime candidate for such experiments with it's 9" black and white CRT :veryevil:

:D I'll stay out of this discussion then, since it doesn't really bother me where the venue is. I'll just be confusing things otherwise :p

Got your PM pkwak. That weekend should be fine for me to attend, but which venue is it at, or hasn't that been finalised? I read through the last few pages but may have missed a decision... I'm not sure what amps/sources I'd bring, but I can bring the following headphones: Audio Technica AD2000...

Look at what I picked up yesterday :D

I'm not sure about transitioning shapes, might need some 3D CAD/CAM software for that (plus 3D modeling experience). I have, however, done up some rough toolpaths in 2.5D for some Grado cups. No idea how they'd actually turn out but here's a simulation (top and bottom cuts, not an actual 3D...
