Getting back into mixing live sound, need new phones
My understanding is that the ATH-R70X are open cans? Following the OP‘s worries about sound isolation I would suggest getting closed headphones, to maximise use cases. Great headphones, though! :)- MacFrank

Sony MDR-M1 | studio headphones
I will always be part of the curious crowd, therefore fully support your endeavour. :D just wanted to make sure, you didn’t confuse the M1 for an open back :)- MacFrank

Sony MDR-M1 | studio headphones
Why? Those are different concepts, imho. MV1 is an open back and is marketed for AV production, the M1 seems made for a different (monitoring) purpose.- MacFrank

HISENIOR AUDIO Discussion Thread
A few days ago I received mine, ordered from a German vendor. My pair also sports the oblong venting hole; from what I have read and therefore expected upfront, I‘m quite sure I got the „silent retuned“ version. So far I like sound very much, but I will try EQing the „original“ signature. Let‘s...- MacFrank

Getting back into mixing live sound, need new phones
If full size over-ear cans are okay with you, I'd go with Beyerdynamic DT770s, personally even the 250 Ohm version, as many mixers and pro audio gear often have loud hp outputs. A 80 Ohm version is available, that I like less acoustically, even though they are easier driven via portable sources...- MacFrank

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread
A few days ago, actually. But it was a demo unit, maybe it has been there for a while? It was in very good shape, that much I can assure you. In what timeframe do you suggest the SE has been changed? Very curious about that - and thank you for the context! :)- MacFrank

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread
I can see the point many reviewers are making when using the Arya Stealth, but it didn’t reflect my experience with the Arya Organics. They still have an uneven treble response, but it is altogether better controlled due to it being more recessed. The one HE1K SE model I tried out on the other...- MacFrank

I‘ve only heard the HE1kSE so far and would not recommend it. The Arya Organics are much more relaxed and full sounding.- MacFrank

Closed back headphones for classical, again
I tried them yesterday in direct comparison to my DCA Aeon 2 Noire and others (Fostex TH900 MKII, Hifiman Arya Organic & HE1000SE). The E3 are highly impressive and do not lack dynamics. They do need a certain level of volume to come alive, but when they do they sound staggeringly solid, precise...- MacFrank

[FiiO M23] AK4191EQ+AK4499EX, THX AAA-78+, Dual Type-C Ports, Dual-Core Fast Charging, 1000mW+1000mW @32Ω
I have recently purchased the M23 and am quite happy with it as a DAP, to be honest (caveat: I had been using an Apple iPod Classic 160GB…). What surprises me is the somewhat negative animosity towards „FiiO sound signature“; is there any more information on this? Also, I thought the THX circuit...- MacFrank

Audio Technica the master of WOOD
After many, many pages of this amazing thread I seem to reconnect to my old love for my two AT woodies, the W5000 and W1000X. What I would very much appreciate would be advice on where to start researching alternative pads for both of them? The W1000X especially didn‘t connect with me because of...- MacFrank

Sony Z1R....listening impressions only
Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I am currently looking for a closed back that both sounds relaxed and full as well as shines with relatively low listening volumes. Currently my reference is the DCA AEon 2 Noire, which is a tad too bright and forward for long and quiet listening sessions for my...- MacFrank

ULTRASONE NEW ANNOUNCED HEADPHONE Signature Pro
Quote: Which, to be honest, would mark the third time that US brings back the Edition7-sound signature. ;) But I do agree - I'd like the Signature Pro to be near the Edition 9's sounding. To my ears a very impressive, yet cultivated sound. But, also, the only US so far to fit my...- MacFrank

An interview with Sennheiser regarding the HD800
Good evening, folks, so Uwe (member of Sennheiser) answered some questions on the German hifi-forum.de already and I thought that I'd use some time to translate it for you. Please don't be mad at me because of mistakes - I hope you can decrypt the meaning of each question. So here...- MacFrank

Can RME ADI-2 drive monitors and headphones ?
Hi, carm! I just happened to read this topic - the solution you suggested would be the best in terms of sound quality. If you would prefer to adjust volume of your Adam A7s via the MKIV [note: I do not know if the LittleDot has a pre-amp function, just assuming it has?], then you'll have to...- MacFrank

JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?
Just out of curiousity - what was the average retail price for the RX900 when this thread started? Not that I find them terribly expensive, but I do feel they could have been cheaper some time ago. Thanks in advance!- MacFrank

akg or what?
Hi 12v, I do think you should upgrade to a full size 'phone, if you are missing soundstage when listening to your current setup. The Etymotic ER4 seem to be quite prominent in highs, so if you like this soundsignature, the K701 could be a quite good option for you. Besides that I would...- MacFrank

Need Help: Cans that sound similar to DT990 but easier to drive
For me, technically a 32Ohm headphone is much more easy to drive than a 250Ohm Headphone as you need less current to gain the same power output from your headphone. That's the physic's part of the story. If the bass of your DT990s is now less controlled as is was with your Gilmore Lite then I...- MacFrank

Need Help: Cans that sound similar to DT990 but easier to drive
Hi tjumper, why don't you sell your 250Ohm DT990 and buy a new 32Ohm DT990 from the Beyerdynamic manufacture?- MacFrank

The Sennheiser HD-600 thread
@nick: In my opinion - the HD600 play Rock well and considerably better than HD650s. Those, the HD650s, have too dominant bass and taken back highs for me to really play Rock as it is meant to. Well, at least this goes for "dirty Rock", i'd suppose. Rock-Ballads go quite well with both of the...- MacFrank

Few Q's About Grado ! ! ! Help please !!!
@MONVMENTVM: (Hi back, there ) Thank you for supporting me. "Colored" is exactly the term I've been desperately searching for. Neither the HD650 nor the HD600 are neutral headphones, that's true. But especially the HD600 are less coloured than the (compared to other manufacturers) quite...- MacFrank
