FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
Oh... I've had some terrible experiences with all plastic devices and EMI, so it looks like I'll have to pass on this one. Tough luck it is... Thank you for the heads up!- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
From what I have read, I got an impression that the built-in battery only supplements the power provided by the source/transport, instead of replacing it completely (and the primary USB port is not data only). This seems to suggest so as well. But I'm very well may be misinterpreting that...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
Does BTR17 still draw power from the source device/transport when connected via USB when not in the PC mode? If so, can it be prevented so that it works only from its internal battery?- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
Thank you very much, everyone, for your insights on the topic of functional differences between DAPs and DAC/Amp devices! I never thought about it that way. Is that a good thing or not so much? I'm as clueless as it gets with regards to KA17's reported performance since I'm completely...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Android based DAP without access to streaming services is a waste and makes very little sense, imo. I really doubt FiiO went this road.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
Didn't expect the BTR17 to cost more than the Android based DAP, and from the same brand as well! JM1 seems to have all the same features and specs are pretty much the same too, isn't that so? The latter seems like a better value.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
Thank you very much for the info! It's great to see that a lower output impedance has been achieved, as it's one of the most important parameters. At least for these kinds of devices, i.e. compact portable sources which are mainly intended for and are going to be used with IEMs. I consider it a...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

FIIO 2024 New Product Schedule-From FIIO James
@FiiO Excuse me, but may I ask you what should I expect the BTR17's output impedance to be? BTR7 has a pretty high output impedance of ~2 Ohm, if I remember correctly, which is something I consider problematic, especially with the unfortunate current trend for IEMs to have unusually low impedance.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Love that spreadsheet summary. Visualisation for the "Presentation" metric is... Not easy, or rather not quite intuitive to interpret, so might benefit from some additional explanation, but I like the idea very much. Thank you for the review!- JeanPaul Petrosyan

MOONDROP X CRINACLE DUSK NOW AVAILABLE
Hi! Is there any info on whether these have an inverted polarity? I remember reading that this is/was a thing for some Moondrop IEMs in the past.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Thank you! Yes, but what I forgot to specify but actually meant to ask is whether it's possible to set BTR15 to disable battery charging while working off it's internal battery, not USB delivered power. From what I read, PC mode makes it draw power from the source.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Hi! Could you confirm if it's possible to disable battery charging completely for BTR15, by any chance? If I remember correctly, it was even with the OG BTR5, but the promotional material on BTR15 is a bit confusing in this regard.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Moondrop in-ear monitors Impressions Thread
It's so highly subjective... But I really like W1 with Variations. Moreso than CP100+. The latter also seem to partially block the sound guiding tubes, which kind of makes me wary. I can't imagine that having a positive effect.- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Topping G5
Very much worth it, if it has better shielding, some kind of a simple display for battery level and signal format indication, better DAC and some other features previously mentioned here that people seem to be very interested in, like a battery bypass mode. It's good for the money, indeed, but...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

You're not the first person here to mention hearing aliasing. Despite talking about it from a theoretical standpoint I myself have absolutely no idea about how aliasing should/could present itself in practice or, to be exact, how we perceive it's effects. Do you mind describing what you hear as...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Excellently written! Topping G5
What's the prevalent native sample rate of the music files in your library? If G5 seems to benefit that much from upsampling in your experience, I wonder if it can be attributed (partially, at least) to it's reconstruction filter with a suboptimal degree of attenuation at Nyquist frequency which...- JeanPaul Petrosyan

Topping G5
Hm, wouldn't have expected that from Topping, as a relatively highly esteemed brand, tbh. Damn shame if it's true and they still haven't improved in those regards. Thanks for the heads-up. I think maybe removing the protective faux leather onlay on the back could help with heat dissipation...- JeanPaul Petrosyan
