Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
Appreciate that. fyi - I was one of the first owners of S3A's back in the day when Dave Bryce had just started distribution them in the US. For alot of us they were either Genelec 1030 detox or NS-10 Rehab. (they landed sort of in between both. Not mid scooped like Gens nor terrible 2K hot...- edhamgtr

Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
I liked the 30's but my hunch is that they are really hd600's, tuned a bit different. Have had 600's since the stone ages. They were the first phone to get close to the neutral studio thing ....... but the low end .... And honestly, neither the 30's or 600's have the clarity and separation...- edhamgtr

Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
Thanks for the post! MM500's are my current - Recessed high end. a couple odd Low mid bumps. the +1db@ 3k bump doesn't bother me though (this seems to be an issue for some). +3db high shelf at 4k helps a bit along with a few midrange tweaks and I can get close. The bummer is when I spend...- edhamgtr

Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
HD4xx looks good but that -7db dip at 2k is my issue. Sure I can flatten it with eq - but I'd like to be able to unplug from by studio rig - and have the sound pretty close to the studio eq'd version. Context switching like that has me losing my reference sound. Ananda Nano's seem a bit closer...- edhamgtr

Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
Thanks! Doesn't need to nail Harmon. Especially the bass. (not in the harmon bass boost camp). But 100-10K - yeah probably flat to harmon. Any boosted freq areas just need to be subtle and smooth. The hifiman house sound of that 2K dip with extra boosted sparkle misses for me. If they made a...- edhamgtr

Looking for opinions - Planar with flat response .....
Tried lcd2,x,4,5 mm500. Hifiman 1000v2. My quest is for a flat mixing/mastering headphone that requires the least amount of eq. Basically 1000v2's without the 2k dip and less hyped treble (esp above 10k). So yeah, I want an affordable HE1 ..... ;) This pink noise test was pretty stunning...- edhamgtr

Sold. Selling my awesome Hifiman HE1000V2's. Completely agree with Crinnacles list playing the He1000v2 in the very top grouping on his list. I'm the original owner. Purchased from Hifiman. Gently burned them in. Stunning. Mint in factory box. I'm a touring musician (they did NOT tour with me)...- edhamgtr

I bought a set of Layla's intending to use them on a 2 year national tour that was covid cancelled last year. I also had a set of JH13's for a few years but sent them in for remolds at the time time as I bought the Layla's. JH lost them during the early mess of covid shutdowns and made me a...- edhamgtr

appreciate the replies. No need to worry about portability. Plenty of room in the suitcase as I spend all my money on guitars and gear so I don't actually have clothes to put in the suitcase!- edhamgtr

Need a closed headphone for hotel room/backstage/anywhere - mixing/mastering. Currently using HE1000v2 (with a smidge of eq). between IEF neutral curve to Harmon. Just no big bumps or holes. Linear. Nice to listen to. Good isolation. Appreciate your input and suggestions.- edhamgtr

What next after Hifiman HE-1000v2??
Stunning headphone. My use case is for mixing and mastering on the road and in hotel rooms. (will be spending most of the next two years on the road). Two issues with the he1000v2 - bit of a spike at 9k, and too much sparkle above 12k. Just a smidge but enough to be at issue. Tad lack of mids...- edhamgtr

Layla's
No question U18's at least have a more complete response. ie - any high end and upper mids at all compared to my Layas'. I found the 18's to have a significant bass boost that while desirable to many, is more than my taste. But I certainly appreciate the reply! (and the reminder that IEMS can...- edhamgtr

Need a low latency wireless headphone

Need a low latency wireless headphone
32 ms is not low latency. Anything past 10ms will drive a musician bat **** crazy. I just bought the senn 180's for this exact purpose (composer tired of the cable getting in the way) and I love my senn 600's. Unusable. Sound fine. A bit of a bass boost. but the latency is for ****. ...- edhamgtr
