IEM that fit the Shure Olives
Anyone got recommendations for good IEMs that fit the Shure Olives? I don't mind different types of sound signatures like dark or bright, but I just need some that are good quality that fit these sleeves because I like these sleeves the best (but I lost my Shure SE530). I am open to new IEMs...- Alai

Denon AH-D7000
Just received my D7000 too. I love them as I did when I first heard them at my first headphone meet in California. Such an exciting headphone to listen to. And luxurious looking too. Now to obtain a DT880 600ohm Manufaktur as well as modding these via LA and JMoney pads!- Alai

Adjustable Search Options
I do not like the default search options of sorting by "Relevancy". I hate that I have to keep going into "Advanced Search" to adjust how I want my results to sort. Otherwise, I often get trash threads I have to go through. For example, I may want the most updated threads for impressions or...- Alai

Another Speaker Recommendation.
If you shoot for the Martin Logan, make sure you have an amplifier with really good current control. Like Adcom, Rotel, B&K, etc. -
Another Speaker Recommendation.
The Martin Logan Source or Vantage. Everything else in your stock blows. Including all the bookshelves you have available. The best bookshelf, if you had to choose, I would say are the Polk Audio RTiA3. But that's excluding Vienna Acoustics because I have no experience with them. -
Another Speaker Recommendation.
Um... do you have an inventory list? We aren't going to go run over to Best Buy and shop for you. -
LSi9 or LSi15? (technical question)
FWIR, the LSi series need a bit of XO modding for the separation and imagery to be more solid. Apparently, however, once that is done, they are some of the best speakers around, especially at those used prices.- Alai

Total computer audio beginner needs some advice
I don't, but, historically, the Fubar series have always been decent amps/DACs.- Alai

How decent would a $400 DIY 2.0 bookshelf speaker system sound. And could anyone help me with ideas/details/ how to build.
Depends on what you mean by DIY. Are you going to buy a kit or are you going to follow someone's pre-established design and get your own materials or...? -
LOD for ipod classic--Worth it?
I don't think it's worth it for you. Once you get a better headphone amp and the headphones that can detect subtle changes like amp and cables, THEN you add in the LOD. -

Suggestions for new speakers...My Sad Day
I've seen Monitor 5 go for much cheaper, but at $70, you aren't going to find speakers that sound better... even at the $300~ level. Even some speakers that are more expensive may not measure up to the Monitor 5 (originally retailed for about $250... in the early 70's, which, if you measure with... -

Grey spots on Behringer MS40 studiomonitors
I have that too. I think it just means that plastic part isn't completely glued on. It probably does affect performance but I doubt it affects performance by much. The MS40 is already budget level. -

5.1 setup from Energy for ~$1200 .. could I do better?
I guess you could play "Stereo All" mode if your receiver has that mode. Otherwise, most music is recorded in stereo... aka the mains and the sub. I am pretty sure foobar auto plays 5.1 if the music if 5.1. But not 100% sure. Also, you have a point about the RC-Mini in small rooms when you...- Alai

5.1 setup from Energy for ~$1200 .. could I do better?
Personally, I dislike Energy's entry level gear... (looking at the RC-Mini and that subwoofer). I think the RC-Mini as a center sounds like a terrible idea because centers are ideally large and at least bookshelf size... not smaller than bookshelf size... The center should at least be an...- Alai

Amplifier Recommendations for a 2.1 System?
Cinder block sounds terrible as stands. You realize cement is made to vibrate (i.e. resonate) to withstand things like wind and earthquakes? I am pretty sure cinder blocks will color your sound in a bad way. HD-5000's advice is really solid. The brands he listed are great for vintage... -
Amplifier Recommendations for a 2.1 System?
How loud do you want it to go? And why are you using such a terrible sub with those decent speakers? Lol. The Acurus A100X3 is an excellent 3 channel amp that is rated at 100W. I can't say if you can find one for under $200 though... How much wattage are you looking for the amp to output... -
B&W Bookshelf speakers
Paradigm can be a little bright as well (although I hear that the Studio series are less bright). You could also look into Ascend Acoustics, Usher Audio, Outlaw Audio, NHT, ACI, Dynaudio, Quad, vintage Polk Audio, and Definitive Technology (only shoot for the Mythos series). -

Thanks for the info. Good to know as someone who is heading into the DIY department. -
Suggestions for new speakers...My Sad Day
I see that you don't mind vintage gear. Try for some Polk gear. Polk Audio Monitor 5Jr, 5, 7, 10. They all have slightly different versions, but they will all sound great. Highly recommending the 7 or 10, especially if you don't have a subwoofer, but the 5's sound great too. The 5's are...
