I have this same DAC but somehow can't get it to work. I bought it from eBay and when it came, some of the parts were wrong. Do you think you could take a few more high res pix of the DAC board? In regards to your question, I think Wimas would work well. Have you seen the Lampizator I/V stage?

The 6N6 is just the Chinese version of the Russian 6N6P and very close to the JJ ECC99 tube. There are plenty of cheap replacements for these.

Also, don't forget there's the 6AS7GA. They're identical to 6AS7Gs except for the outside glass envelope. Last time I checked at Antique Electronic Supply, they were only $4 a piece.

What kind of caps do you have on the output? With so much space there, you can parallel some massive Obbligatos. Also, you can rewire that transformer for 8416 (aka 12DJ8) tubes. They're worth a shot.

There are curved surfaces on the top of those tubes, but since they all have top getters, I don't think there will be any light going through.
