Bada PH-12 v. Darkvoice 337: Informal First Impressions
Quote: do you think modding to use a 6SN7 instead of a 6SJ7 would be a good thing? The thing is, there are two amplification devices in a 6SN7, but only one amplification device in a 6SJ7. So either you parallel the two triodes in a 6SN7 or you "waste" a triode. I would stick with...- Mazuki

Bada PH-12 v. Darkvoice 337: Informal First Impressions
Quote: I'd be very interested in learning what might arguably be the most advisable/efficacious "mod path" for the Darkvoice 337! I think the most important change would be to swap out the Solen output coupling caps. Perhaps some Obliggato caps or motor run. The power supply caps...- Mazuki

Modding Yulong PCM58 DAC
Thanks for the pics Apocalypsee, it looks like I'm missing the logic chip on my board. The big problem is there doesn't seem to be a trace for it. I'll take some pictures when I get back. In the meantime, check out this kit. You can just use passive resistor (500ohms) I/V and then use...- Mazuki

Modding Yulong PCM58 DAC
I have this same DAC but somehow can't get it to work. I bought it from eBay and when it came, some of the parts were wrong. Do you think you could take a few more high res pix of the DAC board? In regards to your question, I think Wimas would work well. Have you seen the Lampizator I/V stage?- Mazuki

Audiotailor HeadMonitor-2 OTL amp?
The 6N6 is just the Chinese version of the Russian 6N6P and very close to the JJ ECC99 tube. There are plenty of cheap replacements for these.- Mazuki

Darkvoice 337 - A Review
Quote: Having recently found a pair of DT880/2003-250 ohm (one of favorite headphones of memory), I am looking forward to hearing them driven by the DV337. This is my reference setup Quote: Doesn't anyone use it with the Grado GS1000? 32 ohms may be too low for the 337...- Mazuki

Also, don't forget there's the 6AS7GA. They're identical to 6AS7Gs except for the outside glass envelope. Last time I checked at Antique Electronic Supply, they were only $4 a piece.- Mazuki

Review: Bijou DIY amp.
What kind of caps do you have on the output? With so much space there, you can parallel some massive Obbligatos. Also, you can rewire that transformer for 8416 (aka 12DJ8) tubes. They're worth a shot.- Mazuki

There are curved surfaces on the top of those tubes, but since they all have top getters, I don't think there will be any light going through.- Mazuki

Passive I/V + step-up transformer + tube
Quote: Oh please, pretty much every sigma delta modulator unique in one way or the other, but they are sigma delta modulators nonetheless. I don't understand why you have to sound so dismissive. Have you heard this DAC?- Mazuki

Passive I/V + step-up transformer + tube
Quote: Then you think wrong. I think "wrong" is not the right term here. If you look at the DAC description here, they highlight that the Hyperstream Modulator is different from conventional delta sigma DACs.- Mazuki
