A sound card and DAC are essentially the same thing. Both take a digital signal and convert it to an analog one. The analog signal can then be amplified (via a headphone out for example).   For gamers, the only thing a sound card may offer over a DAC is EAX support etc.   Quote:

Idk if I could use the K70x's personally, looking at their FR graph and looking at the major frequencies used in house. I mainly produce dubstep and use my HD25s and HD600s w. KRK monitors via an Apogee Duet and don't find the 25s lacking in 'dynamics' if by that term you mean merely 'variations...

I own these 'phones and put a HD600 cable on them but cables change nothing in my personal experience (and scientifically I might add). If you haven't got the one with velour pads I recommend replacing the cheapy plasticky ones with velour and that does add a bit more width between the drivers...
