The ATH-AD900 Thread
You might want to try this mod I did a while ago. Sound-wise, it brought back the the things that went missing after going from the stock velours pads to the leather (and possibly also the pleather) pads. And it distances the drivers from your ears. No more touching, which makes wearing the...- Bengt77

Indeed, they don't really need to be amped. So yeah, almost any source will drive them adequately. Your uDAC will be fine.- Bengt77

The ATH-AD900 Thread
Good. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've owned them for over well over three years and only recently have I changed the pads. That means that for several years it was, in its stock form, a great headphone to me. Just take your time to get accustomed to its sound signature. I'm sure...- Bengt77

The ATH-AD900 Thread
In case you do decide to get an AD900 and find out it gives you too little bass for your liking, you could always try changing the earpads. I have replaced the stock velours pads with the leather pads from the W5000, and there are others here on Head-Fi who have done the same. Those pads can be...- Bengt77

It's more the other way around. As in, how does the SE530 stack up against the AD900? It does quite well, I have to admit. The AD900 is the better headphone for me for sure, but the SE530 isn't all that far behind. I do have to say that with the latter I really miss the sparkling highs and...- Bengt77

How similar are the Shure SE530 and Ultimate Ears TF10? I have the former and only if the SE530 is somewhat similar in sound to the TF10 can I make a relevant comparison for you. But maybe somebody else has heard or actually owns both the AD900 and TF10.- Bengt77

The ATH-AD900 Thread
I've been trying a new mod lately and really like it. It's too much a deviation from this thread to discuss it here, though, so I've created a new one. It's particularly for an ATH-AD900 with the HP-W5000 leather earpads, but might still be interesting for people with the stock velours pads as well.- Bengt77

Mod to virtually angle the drivers of the ATH-AD900
I modded my ATH-AD900 a bit the last week or so and am very pleased with the results. That's why I'm sharing it here. It's an extremely simple and fully reversible mod. I had already changed the stock velours earpads with the HP-W5000 leather earpads (the same ones that come with the ATH-W5000)...- Bengt77

ATH-A900Ti's.......3 years on.
I have the ATH-A900Ti as well and luckily have no issues with the build quality at all. I'm very sorry to hear that you do. I'd hate mine breaking. They're incredibly hard to come by these days. Good luck with fixing them one way or the other! By the way, how do you store your headphones? I...- Bengt77

PRaT stands for Pacing, Rhythm and Timing. Unscientifically, it means you'll automatically start bobbing your head and tapping your foot to the music. So basically, it means how much the headphone gets you involved in the music. EDIT: Sometimes, though, PRAT is also said to mean something along...- Bengt77

Whoa! This is something different alright... But do you see that? Well, do you see that? Indeed, there's a big grin on my face. There is a very definite, and very noticeable increase in bass presentation. Punch is what describes this well. Highs still as awesome. Clarity is somewhat lessened...- Bengt77

Got my W5000 pads in the mail today. Am listening to the stock AD900 now, to be able to tell the difference later, when I change the pads. I'm very curious; I can't wait to hear the differences!- Bengt77

ATH-AD900's end of plug snapped off and got stuck in female end of extension cable
I'll update this thread with a closing comment. I found the plug I was looking for. There's this one shop here in town that sells Audio-Technica headphones (albeit only the considerably lower end models), so I went looking there. Guess what? They had the plugs in stock! They were €7,95 a piece...- Bengt77

Listening to Autechre's great album Incunabula since a long time again. On my A900Ti, of course. Man, is this thrilling! By the way, the new album by The Antlers, Burst Apart, is also a perfect match for the A900Ti. Yep, still loving mine as much as I did when I last posted here. (Has it really...- Bengt77

If you're okay with faux leather, then the A900Ti pads might be your cup of tea. I have that headphone, and I like its pads a lot. Maybe they're the same as the A1000 pads. At least I know for a fact they're certainly not the same pads that are used on the regular A900.- Bengt77
