Quote: So I've been out of the loop for a while and taking a break from all the noise, but man, there's even something off for you in the lcd-3s? Send them to me for uh, tuning, yeah, that's it, tuning... Actually I just want to see how my super duper hybrid silver/copper Soloz cable...- BoilermakerFan

Thunderpants! A world-class closed planar magnetic headphone by Head-Fi'er "Smeggy" - Head-Fi TV, Episode 012
Been out of the loop a while with other more pressing things, but glad to see Smeggy getting his deserved accolades! A proud member of the initial owners group. And Steve, I'm still wearing the T-shirt and getting funny looks which still cracks me up! I was glad to see my pair made the...- BoilermakerFan

Quote: But how bad are the ticks and mosquitoes? I'll take chiggers over ticks any day. I'm 3 hours east of St. Louis, but we don't have a terrible chigger problem, ticks however, are out of control near any wooded areas. MI isn't off the list, but the northwest corner of OH is...- BoilermakerFan

Quote: The transformer in the cable will REALLY hold back those drivers. Much better off recabling them for Stax and using your SRD6. Still not ideal, but better than loosing the upper highs and lower 3 octaves. I have a Kenwood branded electret with Phillips drivers and the built in...- BoilermakerFan

Alrighty guys. All of my available SFIs have been sold. Have fun with your ortho projects! I do have one pair of ATH-2s that will be listed in the F/S forum in the next day or two.- BoilermakerFan

Quote: The SmeggyPucks are pretty sweet cans. My ATH-2 and VectorScans have old pads though, so the issues I'm hearing may be more pad related than cup related. The pads are just very stiff due to age. I had SFIs in SmeggyPucks on a Grado headband with AT ESW-9 pads and kinda wish I...- BoilermakerFan

Quote: Not totally close it off, but make it equivalent of a cup with only a single 3mm or so vent hole, like the SmeggyPucks. But I haven't even had time to do much but give it a cursory thought. Heck, I haven't even swapped the cables on my headphones around yet.- BoilermakerFan

They'll work, but a lot of effort to go through, IMO. Plenty of AT ATH-2s, VectorScans, or other branded ATH-2s out there that can be grabbed with less effort. I'm going to revisit mine, at least tune the VectorScans a little and pads swap HD25 pads on them and see how they do in the stock...- BoilermakerFan

Update for everyone on my SFI driver inventory. I have four pairs of 32Rs and one pair of 120Rs left. I have a couple of pairs as spares for my headphone cup experiments. For now they are not for sale, but if I abandon the project, then I'll turn them loose into the ortho...- BoilermakerFan

I like this page: http://www.greengluecompany.com/improvingSoundproofing.php That explains why my house is much quieter than new construction. We have 3/8" drywall with a 3/8" thick skin coat of plaster. The walls are 3/4" thick and heavy! The house was built in 1938 and has no...- BoilermakerFan

An update on my cable issue. I am happy to report that I did receive a tracking number from Rick and I picked up my cable from the PO this morning. Everything is as described and the cable is a fire hose! It is hefty. Probably too big for my KH-83s, but I'll see if it will fit, but it...- BoilermakerFan

Well, I see that Rick, aka Warren Audio, aka Fidelity Audi, is now banned. I'm really disappointed to report that he took advantage of my trust and I bought a cable from him for my KH-83s over 6 weeks ago and it has never shown up. I filed with Paypal so we'll see how that goes. He's...- BoilermakerFan

Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire is finally here
Quote: The LF was designed as a SE architecture. Any benefits from a balanced signal would be more than offset by the issues it would create WRT attenuation, feedback, etc and they could have negative effects on the sound signature. Quote: ??? The issue with 'stats is the amps or energizers. They definitely have a different sound signature than the vintage orthos even after tuning and mods, but I can't say I like one beter than the other. My 1974 Lambdas off an eXStatA are simply superb.
