    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

If you like to be grimaced at from other members of the public, well fine. I travel on trams, and people are always stacked all around me, and i myself find it very inconsiderate and disrespectful and annoying when i can hear someones music coming from their headphones, thus i would not...

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

There is a difference, yes, not a huge difference, but noticeable; the C5D is pure class, and it has more power to drive the headphone properly. An iPhone is capable of driving the headphone, but not to full performance (this is not just talking about 'volume'), the C5D has a very neutral...

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

You will need a proprietary "Lightning to USB" cable; Amazon sell Apple certified ones, and cheaper than Apple. Other third-party ones are known not to work properly.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Whoa! Where did that come from??? You obviously didn't read the very post of mine which you quoted in your reply, or didn't read it properly. What part of "proprietary' format for 'exclusive' use in DAWs" didn't you understand?    And i did not leave, so what are you talking about?

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

UAD is one of the big four companies, yes, but they are not the company that nailed it. There are glaring oversights and shortcomings in their approach and algorithm design that fail to model certain aspects of the hardware (despite their own claims), and although they sound very good and...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I do appreciate your interest in the matter, but I sincerely feel as though it's not worth mentioning the exact company to you because it probably wouldn't be very relevant unless you are an actual music producer. These plugins are in proprietary VST (Virtual Studio Technology) format for...

JDS LABs C5D vs FiiO E17K

I prefer the C5D. It's pure clarity and totally natural with more than adequate soundstage. The FiiO has some ways to go. On it's own the FiiO sounds nice, but then directly back to the C5D and the difference is apparent.  The FiiO has a definite warm sonic signature, and it lacks 'air' in the...

    Light Harmonic Geek Wave

Good point. However, since IEM is easier to drive... doesn’t demand a high current amp, so this looks more like a type of marketing strategy. AFAIK LH seem to be taking liberties away from the initial design-goal or purpose of their beginnings with the crown funding.

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

The headphone would be at fault, struggling to handle the power, there's no way the C5 would be producing distortion. Quite a few headphones have an issue with this; can't cope with high-load drive.

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

If i was you i would switch-off bass-gain from the C5. Any bass-gain from any Amp/DAC is just artificial and kind of ugly, never ideal. If you want heavy-bass then it is preferable to get a headphone which already has heavy-bass. The Yamaha Pro 500 is a near perfect performing headphone...

    JDS Labs C5/C5D (pg96) portable amp/amp+DAC

It certainly will, BUT ONLY if you switch it to 'high-gain' mode. I get the impression that nearly any overhead headphone needs high-gain to drive it properly, because the C5 on standard-gain although enough to drive the headphone, is not enough to really drive the headphone if you know what...

    FiiO E17K

Recently purchased. Hardly used, not a scratch on it. I simply prefer my JDS LABs C5D; other than that this is a nice performer... clear sound, good soundstage, accurate bass, slightly warmish tone.:)   Price includes shipping.

    Debunk the Yamaha MT220 Myth

Bad move, the 940 are garbage! You're listening to reviews, don't listen, the reviews are full of ****. I've tested these, bad sound. The cheaper Shure 440 performs much better. And forget the 840. Take my advice or not, but i'm just trying to save you some time and money and disappointment...

JDS LABs C5D vs FiiO E17K

If you would take a proper look at my opening post to this thread, i said this... "Previously i had an average opinion of the FiiO E17K, but then after doing side-by-side A/B tests with the JDS for several hours replaying exactly the same parts of each song with intense listening over and...

JDS LABs C5D vs FiiO E17K

I've been doing several hours of testing between these two; i have both of them. During all the testing I could barely tell them apart. I even swapped headphones just to be thorough. I'm quite surprised at the E17K, it proved to be highly competent. I only got the JDS C5D 2 days ago...

    'Burn-in' questions for the experts?

Thanks guys for chiming-in. What a mystery. I asked my local 'expert' headphone/Amp dealer, whose being doing this for many years for a very long time and selling the most expensive headphones in the world, and when i asked him he point-blank replied "Absolutely, it's a fact, burn-in is real!"...

    Looking for closed headphones

Very true. Exactly what i have noticed. Slightly sloppy bass on songs that have sub-bass frequencies; other times it's nice and tight in the bass region. It seems the achillies heel of this headphone is when some songs have to much going on in the 40-70Hz region. A good DAC/Amp helps...

    Fiio E17k Alpen 2

The JDS Labs C5D is hands-down the best DAC/Amp at the price, and pretty much betas anything at any price, true story. $249.   You'll find many reviews and users that agree with me. You can't go wrong. But if you want a DAP, the iBasso DX90 simply can't be beat.

    Fiio E17k Alpen 2

I would say avoid the E17K. It's way too warm, and it lacks 'air in the top end and has slightly 'veiled' treble. I have it here, i've done the tests.

    Looking for closed headphones

The MT220 does not have the performance that the pro reviews say, that was the thrust of my thread. The reviews try to say they are dead-on accurate, and also give the impression these are near flawless, which they aren't. However, that doesn't mean they aren't listenable. Every headphone is...

    Looking for closed headphones

As is clearly evidenced throughout the headphone world, price has nothing to do with performance, so really you can see how a $200 MT220 can easily perform, especially as it has a multi-billion dollar company like Yamaha backing it.
