Best Headphones for Rock/Metal but also versatile?

The Memphis has that modern production sound, it's gonna be tough to make that sound good. I've written extensively on a lot of closed headphones if you search for my old posts. I would also recommend you search for an article called Sansa clip measured and get one of those. Cost is about...

More portable equivalent of AKG Q701?

I think you'll need something with a similar size to get something like that. Try the K550 or Yamaha 400 or 500 if you can demo them.

Student looking for some over the ear headphones built for anything

Try an Amperior, Yamaha Pro 400, and AKG 550. Before you consider buying all sorts of expensive stuff that largely doesn't have verified performance, I would recommend trying stuff that's not too much money that has verified measurements. Like a Sansa clip for portable and an Odac for the computer.

Recommendations for Closed, Over-the-Ear Cans for Rock/Metal

It's tough to say how things are gonna work without knowing the measurements of the source. The output impedance could be anything. Metal is tough to get right a lot of the time because of poor decisions made in the recording studio. Are you using 1st press, non-remastered cds? A lot of these...

Need a 250$ headphones instad of my ATH M50

I've got an HD25. I think it's good but not as interesting as the Amperior. Ultimately I've listened to and bought a lot of the best closed headphones and vastly prefer the Yamaha pro 400 over all of em. If you search it, I've written a lot of detailed opinions on the different phones I've...

Best ~$200 full-sized headphones for use at work

I haven't found a full-size headphone that you can't hear the music through if you're listening at good levels. K550, Amperior, Yamaha Pro, Momentum, UE6000, it's all audible to a degree if you're in a quiet environment. Maybe IEMs isolate a lot better. Out of all the closed headphones I've...

Need help choosing a pair of closed, portable, circumaural cans on a budget

I wouldn't bother with the UE6000. Demo the yamaha pro 400 if you can. you'll find a lot of info if you search my older posts.

Less than $300 Over the Ear for my Teenage Son (who wants Beats!)

have him try the yamaha pro 400. looks like beats but is far better than other closed headphones I own or have heard. Momentum can sound kinda drab. UE6000 doesn't have a lot of energy. I've written extensively on these in other threads.

Need a pair of Audiophile level headphones under $500?

not sure what your source and amp are. most of these headphones are about your own preferences. I've heard a lot of the most expensive models and not found them much to my liking. try some of the closed stuff. yamaha 400, akg 550, amperior, dt 770, hd 280, great stuff that's not too expensive. I...

    Closed Cans -- Recommendations [$200 ~ less]

while I'd recommend the yamaha pro 400, I don't know I could wear it that many hours. The senn hd280 seems like it would work for hours on end without a problem and the sound was quite good.

Sansa Clip+ vs Clip zip vs Fuze+

just got the fuze+ with rockbox and I swear it sounds less full and more analytical/clean compared to the zip rockboxed. Going back and forth between the two using the same songs, it's definitely noticeable. The fuze touchpad works decent but isn't 100% responsive.

    V-Moda M100 vs Yamaha Pro 500

also consider the Yamaha 400, which I think is much better than the 500. I've written extensively about it on here

How does the V-Moda Crossfade M-100's compare to the Yamaha Pro 500 Premium's?

depending on your source, the Yamaha 400 might be more to your liking than the 500. Wish I'd heard the m-100

    Yamaha PRO Headphones.

the E11 has a few problems related like clipping and distortion. I recommend searching for the full review. People are getting different impressions of the bassiness due to source differences I'm guessing.

I liked the senn hd280 I heard at best buy

Nothing really appealing to me in the ~$150 closed circumaural category... what to do...?

try to demo some Yamaha Pro and AKG K550. I also thought the AKG 240 were quite good. Senn hd280 was another I liked at a store demo and it is pretty inexpensive.

Best Closed Headphones <$300 (Born Again Newb)

See if you can demo a pair of Yamaha Pro 400s. Sounds like you would like them. Don't really have time to retype all the extensive comments I've written about them on here, but it should be easy to find if you look. I can sum things up. Great isolation(better than my other closed cans), very...

Best headphones I can find for 100-200$ price range.

There really is no best I suppose. See if you can find the following in a store to listen to and sometimes they can be had for the price you want or lower/higher on amazon all depending.    AKG 240 AKG 550 Senn hd280 Yamaha Pro 400-Think this will be the best of the lot for your electronic...

Please help! Closed alternative to 80's!

you could order flat pads from todd the vinyl junkie. I've used my SR-60 w/flats on the go and the flats worked well in terms. sound leakage wasn't really an issue to my surprise. Could play music at my normal listening level in the middle of an airport seating section at the gate without...
