The death of headphone retail?
All of retail is hurting, not just hi-fi audio. It's the magic of googling a product and having prices from 20 vendors pop up, with tax and shipping line items pre-separated.- El_Doug

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and Wireless!
Got mine from Moon ($450), arrived last night - wireless. Paired to my work laptop and phone. Not yet tried wired (but why would I?) Incredible noise canceling!! Sound is extremely similar to the old momentum, a bit more mid-bass hump a la hd650, but still a nice crisp clear high end...- El_Doug

3 mics ranging from sub-$100 to $2000. Can you hear a difference? (Mention headphones used.)
This should be fun :D Especially given the stupid pricing of some microphones which are clearly technically inferior (hello u87) Anyways, I'm wagering B > C > A, in terms of technicals "A" sounded relatively dead, something just wasnt all there in terms of presence (sorry, I'm no good...- El_Doug

Need Advice: Dress Shoes for Interviews, Cost no Object
Both Alden and AE are generally of equal quality construction (that is to say, excellent). It really comes down to if you want a more true English style, then Alden fits the bill more closely. Since you asked about the Park Avenue, however, I assume you're going for a cap-toe oxford...- El_Doug

Why would those with HE-6 prefer speaker amps?
I can't find it, but a few years ago I calculated out the amount of power it would take for the HE-6's to cause hearing damage within 30 seconds of listening (based on OSHA tables), and it was FAR less than these "zomg it needs a speaker amp!" guys suggest. I don't have the time to do the...- El_Doug

Bicycle-Fi!
Would depend on what you want to use it for. In all honesty though, you'd probably have a lot better luck with your bike shop outfitting a good MTB with a separate motor/battery known for reliability and power, rather than paying the absurd amounts these companies want for the pre-assembled...- El_Doug

Dr. Dre -- I'm Losing Billions to Fake Beats from China
They won't obtain ****, no one obtains anything when trying to sue these Chinese counterfeiters. And Beats does not expect to see a penny. The sole purpose behind this lawsuit is to serve as a yet another marketing angle for the Beats headphones, drilling into the heads of consumers that 1)...- El_Doug

Samsung Level new series of premium headphones
Design patents are notoriously hard to actually argue in court, hence why the Apple v Samsung cases took so long in every country, and ended up with various results in every country they sued each other in. Honestly though, all a lawyer would need to do would be to bring in all of the...- El_Doug

Bicycle-Fi!
The cartridges cannot usually be refilled, since they are simply pierced on the top, and do not have a valve (such as a scuba tank would). However they are usually made of steel, and can thus be recycled easily! And remember, the CO2 in them is simply extracted from the air, not...- El_Doug

Audeze LCD-X
You are correct. I honestly laugh every time I see people say "wow, such high impedance, you really need a super powerful amp!" - i stopped trying to educate people, because no matter how many times you try explaining it, the pop-rumor will always prevail. Speaker guys understand this...- El_Doug

Making a headphone amplifier from a T-amp
Fun! I made a headphone amp out of a Charlize a few years ago, it worked fantastically... don't recall the resistors i wired in parallel to the output, but using a transformer might be quite a bit of fun too!- El_Doug

Dream setup - How does this sound?
That's a HUGE amount of money to just plop down without listening to any of it :/ Sounds more like youre seeking validation for your expenditure, more than anything else. That being said, the WES sounds pretty good with the 009s, at lot better than it does with the 007s. All in...- El_Doug

Question about amps for the Stax SR-009
If you REALLY want a comment... There is a damned good chance that your mind cannot accept the idea of sand sounding as good as tubes. The glow excites you and, after many years, you have developed a bias that only their "tube warmth" can give you sonic bliss. What you do not realize is...- El_Doug

For total silence: is a custom earplug better than foam, etc?
Foam inserts generally attenuate far better than acryllic. I know sticking 3M foamies in my ears makes the world a heck of a lot more quiet than using my JH13's. That being said... if the sounds of the world, in and of themselves, are driving you nuts, have you considered some kind...- El_Doug
