Etymotic ER4P & AKG K701
These are both great phones, and I think you will like both. I mainly use the Ety's when traveling, on a airplane they are superb, blocking out the noise and letting you listen at normal volumes. The ER-4P with an ER-4P to ER-4S Adapter and an amp make the Ety ER-4P really shine. At home I...- kwlinder

Help! Beyerdynamic DT880...should I flip these for another pair of cans? Thanks in advance
DT-880's need an amp to sound their best. I do not consider them as "portable" phones unless you want them in several different rooms at home. I would get a good portable amp as a minimum (I don't think the Penguin Caffeine qualifies) or a home amp. DT-880's have plenty of bass with the right...- kwlinder

Should I use flats with my SR225?
Flats will have more bass and tame the high end. I have not listened to SR-225, but compared to my SR-60's with bowls, I missed the highs and the bass sounded muddy and bloated when I switched to flats. I have not listened to the flat's in a while. I am not a basshead, and like Ety ER4S, Beyer...- kwlinder

Skylab, Excellent review. I can't afford one either, but I sure am jealous that you had a listen. Also, excellent choice of music -- reminded me of some Alison Krauss, Porcupine Tree and Dead I have not listened to in a while.- kwlinder
