    Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot

    Hello guys, I saw that the X5iii is now around ~200$ in China, which is pretty close to the current price of the Shanling M2x, Fiio M9, Hiby R3 pro. Would you think it's a better buy in terms of SQ and usability? Obviously the newer models have better BT codecs etc., but that's not really too...

    Shanling M2x - TIDAL || Wi-Fi || Both-way LDAC BT & BT Transmitter || Advanced USB transport || FW 2.7

    By the way @Shanling is the M2X line out a proper line out bypassing the internal amp or not? I don't think that I've been able to found this detailed in any of the promotional material or reviews.

    Shanling M2x - TIDAL || Wi-Fi || Both-way LDAC BT & BT Transmitter || Advanced USB transport || FW 2.7

    Ah, got it. Then yes, in theory you should be able to stream Tidal to the M2X using any wifi internet connection (like your home wifi or your phone hotspot). The caveats would be: - as far as I understand Tidal is going to be added in the global release firmware to come at a later date, so no...

    Shanling M2x - TIDAL || Wi-Fi || Both-way LDAC BT & BT Transmitter || Advanced USB transport || FW 2.7

    I am not sure that I understand your question perfectly: are you saying that you would like to send audio from your iPhone to the M2X via wifi? If so, I don't think that's possible unless there's some way for your iPhone to show itself as a DLNA source to the M2X on top of the hotspot (I don't...

    Earbuds Round-Up

    So, I've received the NiceHCK EBX and.. surprisingly I like it less than the EB2. Might have something to do with the fit, but I feel the highs are a bit too much (whereas the EB2 strikes a very good balance between extended and non-fatiguing) and does not correct the dip in the mids that I...

    Earbuds Round-Up

    Welcome! First of all, since it seems that you don't have much experience with earbuds, I think I should point out to you that earbuds normally have a series of issues which IEMs normally don't: mainly lack of isolation and lack of sub bass (and more generally attenuated bass). That means that...

    Earbuds Round-Up

    I think it's fine, keep in mind there's no real agreement on how or whether to do burn in, so you just want to have the driver run for a while so that it in theory settles. Pink noise is the most scientific way to do that, and not running 24/7 is a good habit unless you want to stress test the...

    Just bought the NiceHCK EB2 after checking a few reviews here on Head-Fi, Will get back with some impressions after they get here. Thanks!

    Earbuds Round-Up

    Hello guys, looking for a recommendation for something under 100$ and preferably around 50$ or less to use to listen to music in the office. No need for mic, would prefer a generally balanced sound with maybe a warm-ish tint and a slightly rolled off treble. My only point of reference in the...

    CanJam Shanghai 2018 Impressions Thread (November 3-4, 2018)

    Some impressions and constructive criticism: The show floor was well organized, and the amount of people was just right from a visitor's perspective; I didn't really have to queue to audition anything, when one or two stands were really full I just went to see something else and by the time I...

    CanJam Global 2018 Event Thread (NYC, Singapore, SoCal, London, RMAF, Shanghai)

    I'm planning to drop in tomorrow, can I buy tickets on-site? I checked the online ticket tool but I think I understand that it wants to deliver me physical tickets and there's no way that they'll get here in time.

    The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

    Hello, so I know this question has been asked a lot of times but wanted to get a third opinion as I'm not too convinced: I'm trying to settle for an amp to pair mainly with the K7XX, and am undecided between a Magni 2 (perhaps Uber) and a Vali 2. I've heard many pros and cons, if any of you has...

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      Well said, and especially true for portable dac/amp solutions, as outdoors with the noise and all it is even harder to discern a difference. Couple that with less detailed recordings, or lower res files, and much of the improvement is lost.   As a little counterpoint, however, in my...

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      I personally didn't, but as far as I know HD650 and HD6XX both scale a lot with power. As such, I don't think a stick-format DAC/AMP will give you the best results.

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      I've heard it mentioned a bunch of times in this thread, so it is definitely not an isolated issue, I am afraid.

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      Missed your post previously - late reply (hope it is still useful):   First of all a small note regarding batteries - sometimes they can improve sound quality, as the power source is "cleaner" as they say.   Anyways, since you are looking for something smaller and cheaper, these are a few...

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      While I agree with you that Audioquest should be doing more (and especially should have done much more), I am not entirely sure that it is possible to solve the issue satisfactorily. One simple option would be to set the reported volume at max, so that Android would register the correct max...

    OUT NOW: Shanling UP - A Hi-Res, MFI-Certified, USB-C, MINI-DAC/AMP with ES9018K2M + MAX97220A

      Yes, by default. There are a few apps that use their own custom driver however, such as UAPP, Neutron, PowerAmp Alpha, Hiby.     Noone knows, because nobody has listened to this yet. We're all waiting for reviews/first impressions.

      It's not, indeed. We can only hope that with the next revision of Android Google will pay more attention to this. Which imho is quite likely as we are seeing more and more devices without the standard audio out jack.

    OUT NOW: Shanling UP - A Hi-Res, MFI-Certified, USB-C, MINI-DAC/AMP with ES9018K2M + MAX97220A

      Are you referring to Android or iOS?   If this is a similar implementation to most other DACs (no reason to think it is not, although the "dual mode" feature might signify they are using additional drivers) as far as I know: - iOS: should work normally with any app - Android: it will work...

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      Well, the guys at Headfonia tried both Red and Black powered by a laptop with an HD650 and they said "The Sennheiser HD650 with its 300Ohm impedance is a harder to drive headphone and while I still prefer to listen to the HD650 on tubes, especially the Red Dragonfly made it sound very...

    New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion

      If you were not using UAPP it might also be the fault of the HTC decoding the signal before sending it to the DFR. Android has this weird loop that prevents any DAC to reach full potential unless you use UAPP.

    Head-Fiers in Shanghai?

    Resurrecting a very old thread.. did anything change in the last year or are there still basically 0 head-fiers in Shanghai? I'm here semi-permanently.
