    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

You will see a little notch on the left side where you can insert a knife or boxcutter tip. My advice is not really to pry because that will increase the chance of bending or deforming the badge. Instead, slowly ease the knife straight in and that should be enough to detach it. If not, you can...

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

Sorry thee mutz, as my profile says, I don't have that many posts for being a decade-long member. So, I don't spend much time on here and definitely don't read every post. Thanks for clarifying what the N 6330 is though. Cheers

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

    3) Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, I've been listening with a Bottlehead Crack since 2010 and am supremely happy with my setup. Plus, you also have K240 Sextetts that I imagine you enjoy...well, the combo of Sextett+Crack is again my favorite I've encountered so far. When I "upgraded" to the Beyer...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

    1) Yes, there are of course exceptions. I myself prefer my older AudioQuest DragonFly v1.0 to both the v1.5 and Red. And I generally prefer vinyl over digital copies I've heard (though there are again exceptions, such as the DTS track on the Nirvana Unplugged DVD). Most people, in my experience...

Hi bagwell359, Thanks so much, your comment means a lot. :) I see you have a BH Crack too...have you done any upgrades? If so, what did you choose?

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

Welcome to the club! I absolutely love my AKG K240 Sextetts as well! The pairs you got look to be in fantastic condition too. Even when I tried upgrading to the Beyerdynamic DT 1990, I was totally dissatisfied with the sound: scooped out midrange and a pretty harsh, glare-ridden signature. The...

Bottlehead Amplifier Discussion / Comparison Thread: Crack, SEX & Mainline

You're welcome JamieMcC & TWMM! Hope this is helpful to the many who don't have the chance to directly compare the Bottlehead amps. Cheers! :)

Bottlehead Amplifier Discussion / Comparison Thread: Crack, SEX & Mainline

To start the new year, I visited the new Bottleheadquarters (an hour drive) for a listening test(!)—to compare their four headphone amps, and to see what changes each would make to my setup. Upon arriving, I was warmly greeted by Eileen as we waited for Dan. They both have a very radiant and...

Khadas tone board Vs old CD player Vs new CD player

Awesome! That's pretty close to option B--you discovered what modern DACs are capable of! Enjoy and happy holidays! :)

Khadas tone board Vs old CD player Vs new CD player

Hello, I know this is late, but I just ordered the Khadas last night and was searching the forum to read about others’ experiences while I wait. In regards to your question, I would go with option B. That allows you to satisfy your curiosity and perhaps will surprise you with increased sound...

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

I was wondering what you would have thought about the difference between the two! Nice, we're in the same boat. I see you have a Darkvoice OTL tube amp...I'm using a Bottlehead Crack OTL with a 6SN7 input, so we have a pretty similar standard for high-quality audio. :) Cheers!

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

I second the Brainwavz pads, however, I found the hybrids to have a better-balanced sound for me. The all-pleather provides such a good seal that my Sextetts' bass was bloated and overbearing. Good tip about the hair dryer!

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

The "Monitor Heritage" by Austrian Audio... Whoa, that gave me chills! Yes, please email them and echo this!! To all lovers of the K240 Sextett, please do the same! Let's let Austrian Audio know how much we--along with the professional and audiophile markets--would stop and revel at a premium...

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

I emailed Austrian Audio about bringing back the K240 Sextett in a premium build...and here--within hours--was the response: "Der Mr. Lowell! Many thanks for your kind contribution! It brings up sweet memories…..! I can’t promise that we’ll do something similar, but I’ll definitely...

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

You're being more rational than me, Cruelhand Luke. Since AKG have teamed up with Drop before, relegating the work to Drop does seem more reasonable to do than closing down their China and Slovenia factories to make in-house in Austria once again (as I wish for). But Drop and AKG did make the...

    6SN7 Tube Addicts

Very interesting pdf, I'll add it to my vintage tube files. Thanks for posting! I've listened to a lot of those tubes and the descriptions are pretty much accurate to what I've heard. However, I didn't expereince sibilance with the Tung-Sol VT-231/6SN7GT...to me, they were always smooth and...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

I am a HUGE fan of 6F8G tubes! If you guys like the 6SN7GT, the next step would definitely be to start treasure hunting for 6F8Gs. They sound just as good as 6SN7s; some even say better but it's hard for me to say something like that so easily without scientific testing. The real advantage is...

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

Here are some other very cool vintage ads from wartime America for anyone interested in this exploration. I have the RCA one in a clear sheet protector next to my amp. :)

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

"All Mullard" brought to mind this old ad I saved..."The Master Valve." :) I would like to try some British octals, and I see an adapter on eBay for dual-CV6-to-12AU7, but maybe the Brimar 6SN7GTY/CV1988 is what I'll try to get next. Others say it's similar to the RCA smoked-glass but more plump...

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

No, no, no! This is what it's all about! Exploring what these tubes can do, and especially how they synergize with other tubes. Thanks for your honesty about the GEC, my aching urge to get one has subsided a bit now haha. I'll just jump on it if I find a good price one day. The RCA 6AS7G really...

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

Haha :) They are pretty much permanent in my set-up as well. That ethereal quality you speak of...to me it's the sparkly highs, pleasant grain, wide stage, and plump & meaty tones. Hopefully one day I'll get a GEC 6AS7G like you have there to go along with the RCA, I can imagine that must sound...

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

Ah, okay, much clearer! I can see these have the two parallel vertical flat plates like all of my RCAs have. Yeah, I've never heard of RCA making a round plate 6F8G. But there's nothing wrong with flat plates of course! Like I say in my original post...flat plates are my preference! Round plates...

    6SN7GT & 6F8G - An exploration of WWII-era octal tubes

Ah, the meatball logo and military markings! Beautiful tube! I've only seen this as a flat plate though. But yeah, compared to the tops of my RCA 6F8Gs, yours does look different (1st photo). Are you able to see the round plates under the right lighting conditions? If so, does it look like the...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

Wow, great sale right now... And I totally agree, we're in the same boat, the Crack saved me tons of money and continues to supply aural nourishment each evening for me. I remember seeing Skylab's ranking of tube amps here on head-fi and being shocked at how high the affordable Crack was placed...
