    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

I never tried swapping the inputs back and forth. Great tip, thanks. I really enjoyed the V3_Syn with (I think) NOS 2. I may try TDA_Syn again to see if your trick works. -cheers

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

FWIW - I gave it a shot. I swapped the MCLK / BCLK wires back to "stock" and for fun I tried R8TDA_Syn.jic from March 16, 2019. That particular firmware seems to not love my DAC at all (or the SU-1 or something) - nothing but static. I went back to my good ol' R8TDA_Asy.jsy from March 18...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

Thanks for the kind words. I assume with the SU-6, you're using IIS, but just confirming. I'm swapping around inputs etc. and removing / inserting the SU-1 in my chain to see if there's a trend. I tried power cycling both. I really liked the V3S firmware - I may head back that direction...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

@Jackula - Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Greatly appreciated. :relaxed: Would you perhaps take a bit of time to see how you feel about the sonic signature (only in the bass region) of the James Blake song using the using the same source file, but not upsampled from...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

I updated my R8. I don't use the USB input any longer, but it did reduce the noise during changes from PCM to DSD and vice versa. No (If you're referring to updating the firmware for the FPGAs). The process is on the Amanero website. There's a fairly lengthly discussion earlier in the thread...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

Hi Scott - Thanks as always for keeping the troops in order. I had to pause for a while with the updates. Things were getting a bit overwhelming, I wanted to absorb all the goodness of the simple clock and V2 board updates. I actually went back to V3S just to have a firmware that worked...

The do no connect directly, no. If you want to try I2S, you need additional hardware. Specifically, you'd need a Digital to Digital device with an I2S output. See Singxer SU-6 or Gustard U12 for some popular examples.

Olivier has done it more recently than I, but no. That is not the process for updating the Amanero firmware. See the Amanero site that he linked for clear instructions. Edited to add - just in case you can't find it - https://www.amanero.com/howto.htm

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I first caught wind of the smell of Schiit here on Head Fi. I relocated, space was at premium, and I needed to get my first set of "real" headphones and some supporting gear. I read this thread and Mike's thread from post 1 forward. I wanted to support a cool company and try out the gear...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

Here are the firmware versions I have: V2A, V2S V3A, V3S TDA A, TDA, S Combo TDA A and TDA S on same firmware You said you had confirmed with Kingwa that the TDA_Asy was shipped. He's usually spot on, and that is the new default firmware. So you should be good to go. Yes, I've switched...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

The reason I asked about the firmware is that if you're using TDA_Asy firmware (I assumed when you said you've only had the DAC for about 5 weeks) then your perceptions of differences in the sound between NOS modes is placebo. There is only one NOS mode with that firmware. The indicator will...

What firmware are you running? Congratulations on your new R-8! Edited to add - I just saw that was your first post. Let me be the first to say - Welcome to Head Fi. Watch out for your wallet!

    Audio-gd R2R DAC Thread

[edited to add] I'm assuming that you mean that you want it at 0 and that the 3rd number reverts to 1. When it quits blinking, it just means you're on input 1. USB. Like I was saying - the manuals on line are (with respect) not as easy for those that read English. My guess is that...

    Audio-gd R2R DAC Thread

I believe it was released earlier this year. Kingwa made some changes to address the DSD issues. I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing the new boards and clocks, but he sent me the latest firmware.

I can't be certain re: the reason. Possibly he's just settled on the one he likes best. I got a copy of the firmware for my R-8 that switches between Asy and Syn. I have not installed it yet. I feel like I'm pulling it out of the rack every week - LOL! It will be nice to have a push-button...

    Audio-gd R2R DAC Thread

It only has no function with the TDA firmwares. Kingwa's website is not the easiest to digest. Politely and with respect, it's incorrect and out of date in certain cases and tough to navigate. The header text you quote above is not accurate for models shipped with the TDA firmware, which I...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

I compared the two "stock" several months ago with headphones. I could generally, but not always pick out the R-8. I got the R-1 with an NFB-1 first. When I knew I was moving back to the US, I got the "larger pieces" of gear for use with loudspeakers. However, I couldn't resist comparing...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

Sorry for the delay in reply. Any time. "As good" is always a matter of personal perception. I like the M3 better than some Class A amps. I like a few Class A amps better than the M3. You mentioned the 2Hs, so I assumed you may have space for a pair of Class A monoblocks. I don't know if...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

I'm not Fred either, but of the amps I regularly use - relaxed and weak bass would be the exact opposite of how I'd characterize the M3. FWIW, when I visited Kingwa, he was kind enough to allow me to listen to the M3 and the M2Hs. Are the M2Hs better; yes. Are they a bit more to deal with in...

You are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you! I could not get my Xilinx software to work properly with Win10. I will give your suggestions a try. I had just called a buddy to see if I could borrow his Win7 laptop. On to more fun topics. I told myself I would hold off for at least a week...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

So sorry your clocks did not arrive. The DA-7V2 should come with the latest firmware. FWIW, I generally noticed changes in clicking and popping tendencies when going between the Altera firmwares vs. the Xilinx firmware i.e. TDA-Asy and V3S as an example. However, I've only attempted to...

Hi @barbas Sorry about your situation. I just read your post. I am sure you've already done this, but check the package carefully several times. I almost threw out my clocks with the bubble-wrap and other packaging. They were stuck between two small pieces of semi-rigid white foam (pins...

    New Audio-gd R7 (R2R 7) & R8 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs

I finally got my R-8 updated with the new DA7-V2 boards and the Accusilicon clocks. I still have V3S firmware installed from my last fickle change. I plan on trying V3A again along with the TDA-Asy, and TDA-Syn. It will be a while though. I tend to listen to one change at a time for a while...

Hi Anroj - Congratulations! I have an R8 and and M3, and love them both. I also have a few other pieces (R2R-11, NFB 11.38, R-1, and NFB-1AMP) I love them all. I use them all. My enthusiasm comes from the same place - an almost constant level of kind and generous support for new and...
