Comment by 'Crgreen' in item 'AudioWise OPTO•DX optical isolation bridge for dual SPDIF'

This is an interesting product and might conceivably overcome what I found to be the biggest disappointment with the Blu2 - the amount of RFI pumped into the Dave which robbed it of its ability to reproduce instrumental timbre in a convincing fashion. Ferrites helped but did not completely...

Apologies, I’ll desist and make room for all those urgent posts about the serious business of drop outs and the like which are bound to flood in during the course of the evening. Space is very limited on this forum.

Fair enough - “believe they’ve reached their endgame (but don’t know if they have)”. Banter over.

Not the same as Greeks bearing gifts - I’m no Trojan horse. Anyway, if I had a pound for every time someone pronounced they’d reached their endgame, etc.

I do have a degree in the subject, but that one I picked up on my own!

Perhaps its worth remembering that after every endgame there's usually another match.

Tidal has a significantly larger database than Qobuz, and Spotify is even larger. My understanding is that the whole of the ECM catalogue is on Spotify and Tidal, but I’m not sure about Qobuz, though as your search revealed, many are. I suppose it’s all about finding the right balance between...

You can usually use an iPad app to stream to your iPad when travelling, but generally not for music stored on your home network unless you make the files accessible from other locations, which is generally not a good idea.

In principle, you’re right about optical. In my experience, it’s also true in practice. As you know I use an electrical to optical convertor to feed red book CDs to my Dave. There is clear improvement in sound quality from using the supplied wall-wart power supply to a battery power supply...

In my experience, there’s a clear difference between internet streaming, local file playback and CD, but I don’t know why. I think Rob might have pointed out that even with optical connections, there are ways for the electrical signal to be polluted and adversely effect sound before it gets...

In fairness, Rob also uses his ears, which I suspect are the final arbiter. They certainly are for me. I think he also acknowledges that tastes differ. I think the development of any Hi-Fi component must be a combination of modelling, measurements and listening.

How do they sound in comparison to your Pass/Spendor combo (I assume you listened before buying)?

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

The Dave doesn’t sound bad, nor is it “broken”. That’s just Hi-Fi hyperbole.

I made no presumption the HMS was flawed due to RFI. The Dave itself isn’t. I have found however, that the Dave does benefit from a different mains cable, though I don’t know why.

A typically grumpy request - you might want to reconsider the tone of your posts. The problem is, that isn’t what I said. What I said is that because someone can’t provide a technical explanation, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. For example: I don’t know how a car ignition system works, but I do...

That’s an awfut lot of rights you have there, Andrew, but I’m not sure Nick is under any obligation to meet your demands. I think it’s pretty clear that his cables do reduce RF, as almost any ferrited cable does to a greater or lesser extent, and whether a prospective purchaser considers this...

I think the cable vendor in question has now changed his mind, putting it down to cooking nerves - you know what it’s like. Rob is always honest, and it’s clear he doesn’t believe there’s an issue, residual or otherwise. Even though Nick refers to Rob as “the Master” it’s uncertain if he...

Sorry, the prospect of a big breakfast made me say something I didn’t mean to. IIRC, you told me that the sound of the m-scaler in the Blu2 without ferrited cables was “fatiguing”. Have you changed your mind, again?
