The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

I liked the Woo WA5le. Used would definitely be in your budget. I just sold mine with EML tubes for $2500. Moved up to a WA33.

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

More complicated than that. I have a Schiit Magnius with 3.6 watts into 50 ohms. The TC gets loud enough, but sounds thin. I had a Woo WA6se that put out 1.5 watts and it sounded really good with plenty of volume. The amp needs current reserves is my feeling.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

As far as migraines go, I too suffer from them on occasion. Mine are usually triggered from blood sugar issues. Borderline diabetic. When mine comes on, I have to go lay down in a dark, quite room for a couple of hours at least. Horrible. If these headphones are causing that kind of reaction, I...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

While I don't have an issue wearing mine, the pressure on the temples is noticeable. Never really paid much attention till this subject came up. I would still say my LCD-4 puts more pressure on my temple/jaw area than the Raal. I guess when it comes to comfort, it varies as much as sound...

Mr Speakers Voce Electrostatic headphone thread

The Voce is definitely more full bodied compared to say Stax L700, which I spent a few hours with last month. Just a very relaxed yet detailed sound.

Mr Speakers Voce Electrostatic headphone thread

I have a Voce driven by a Stax srm353x. I also own a Abyss TC with a Woo WA33. Really curious about upgrading my electrostatic amp. Love to hear what you think of the BHSE. Especially with EDM. Usually use the TC for electronic music but still curious.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I tried switching the baffle compensation off. It seems to tilt the pitch higher. Basically the bass loses body. It does seem to open the sound stage some. But I think it is just the increase in balance of tone to treble centric.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I'm going to check it out tonight after work. If I like it better, we can be crazy together. Or psycho minus the sematic.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I just listened to that album(CD rip) on my SR1A's this weekend. Truly a moving experience.

Agreed. Very close to each other.

    Audeze LCD-4

I was debating selling the 4's, until I got the WA33. It has great synergy with the Woo. My Abyss Tc sounds fantastic with the WA33, but the biggest improvement was with the 4. Just the control is amazing. It opened up the sound stage of the 4 while tightening up the bass. All while maintaining...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I think it may be difficult to ensure a cable meets the resistance requirements. Very pedestrian looking stock cable, but seems to be decent quality. I'm just sticking with stock for now.

    Audeze LCD-4

I find using the Audeze reveal plugin solves the treble issue on the 4. I do think that they are so close in sound that if weight or amp requirements are important, go with the 4z.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I am invested in the Amazon ecosystem, so it works for me. Also I can stream to many different devices and download HD tracks for off-line use. Mostly just use it for music discovery. If I like the album, I still buy it on CD or HD download from HD Tracks.

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

Well thanks to kind fellow head-fi member I've joined the WA33 club. Just settling down to enjoy it. Seems pretty well matched with my Abyss TC.

I have not heard the AKG K1000. Kinda rare in the wild I would imagine. Pretty cool that you have one. Hopefully someone else on this thread can chime in who has.

    CLOSED Woo WA5le v2(Sold)

The tubes included cost about another $1200 on top of the cost of the amp. So about $5000 invested altogether.

    CLOSED Woo WA5le v2(Sold)

The tubes installed are quite. On low gain it is silent. On high gain with sensitive headphones you can hear low level hiss. But why you would ever put 8 watts into sensitive headphones is beyond me.

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

Anyone have any comparisons to the WA5le v2? That is my current amp. I have been considering the WA33 for a while and started liquidating some other gear in anticipation of picking one up. I do like the weighty mids of the WA5le and am curious of the improvements with the WA33.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

If your listening to anything with sub bass or even 20-30 hz range the SR1A will bottom out. I hear audible distortion with EDM or modern pop music. But the bass above 30 hz is very articulate and controlled. Definitely not in the same league as the Abyss TC which I also own. Don't own the...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I've found that I change fit according to the song I'm listening too. Easy to change without taking off. More of an adjustment than a change. And it does significantly change the sound. A little bit of work, but man is the payoff worth it.
