    Victor HA-FW10000: 10th Anniversary model

Interesting feedback. Thanks. I wonder if there’s a different perception or taste in frequency response in Japan. I suspect preference could vary by culture.

    Victor HA-FW10000: 10th Anniversary model

Any thoughts on the new HA-FW1800? It uses the same driver as the HA-FW10000, and is much less expensive. https://drop.com/buy/jvc-ha-fw1800-iem-drop-exclusive Both IEMs have caught my interest, but JVC's IEMs still seem a bit too niche, with a small dedicated fanbase, no widespread acclaim...

The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

The Tidal deal is still active. I pulled the trigger myself. I’ve gotten various other deals on the Hi-Fi subscription over the past couple years, but usually with gaps in service in between. I think $100/year for the service is reasonable, so I thought I’d buy it at that price. Sometimes I...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

FYI - Crinacle added measurements for the Ara and Andromeda 2020 to his database for easy comparison with other IEMs: https://crinacle.com/graphs/iems/graphtool/ The Ara indeed have slightly less bass (or more accurately, less sub-bass) then other CA models, but they're not as flat as Jude's...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

The new Aras arrived today (thanks Bloom Audio!!!) - and as fate would have it, the package with the returned Aras was returned to me, since the return label was First Class Postage, and I had reused the Priority Class box they arrived in, not realizing the discrepancy. I listened to the new...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

LOL. Yeah, I'm hoping it was a one-off. I've got a new pair arriving from the dealer and will test. The plugin is a great way to test for one channel being out-of-phase using any music (though it's pretty darn obvious using the posted tests as well). I was curious if most people can clearly...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

BTW, there's also a plugin if anyone wants to experiment with testing what out-of-phase sounds like (and see for yourself how obvious the difference is). If you're using something like Audirvana or another player that accepts plugins, you can switch one channel out-of-phase...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

I purchased the Ara this past weekend, but didn't open them until today (as a bday present to myself). Within a couple songs, I immediately thought "these are wired out-of-phase!" as the sound was very diffuse without a clear soundstage. Having been an audiophile for 35 years, I clearly know...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

One more comment: comparing the above graph of the Ara to Crinacle's graph of the Andromeda Gold, at first blush they actually seem very similar. Maybe in reality the difference is minor. Since Jude used a different system to measure the new CA IEMs, it's limited the usefulness of those...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

mashuto, I agree on many points. I tend to hear the Solaris as fairly neutral in terms of bass, and thus suspect the Ara would be deficient in that area. But I can see potential arguments against that. For example, using the graph below, comparing the three IEMs, the relative bass levels...

Expat, How would you compare the Ara bass to the Andro and Solaris? Thanks! Mark

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

I'm familiar with the other measurements posted to date, which gave me the impression of a big difference in bass levels between the Ara, Andromeda, and Solaris - but in the measurements from the unnamable forum, the bass levels actually look very similar. Thus, I'd like to see Crincle's...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

I'm looking forward to @crinacle getting the Ara to review and measure. I suspect that prior criticism of CA prevents him from receiving pre-release samples, so we'll likely have to wait a while longer.

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

Headpie, This is Psych 101, manifested in multiple ways: It's fairly common for companies to give people free products if they agree to provide a review. Why? Because people who are given something feel obligated to give something in return, a positive review. It's the basic transactional...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

Not meaning to offend anyone, but I suspect we won’t see any unbiased reviews on the Ara until after CA begins shipping on June 18. Anyone that received an early review pair would likely hurt their relationship with CA if that made any negative comments about the product. Heck, even then it’d...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

I'm very interested in the Ara as well - though the graph has me wary to actually pre-order them without reading some detailed reviews. I wonder if CA has been receiving many pre-orders on them, or if the graphs and description has similar scared some people away. In the meanwhile, I did...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

I guess is it’s going to be a while until we see any Ara reviews? Maybe some samples have been sent out to reviewers, but otherwise CA isn’t shipping until June 18.

    Campfire Audio Ara

I’d love to hear the Ara, but I suspect I’d hear the flat bass as lacking. One IEM I own with a fairly flat bass is the SE425 which people hailed as neutral - but I truly thought they were broken at times since the bass was so faint as compared to every other IEM I’ve heard. Ultimately, they...

    Campfire - Solaris

Yeah, I’d consider a driver that makes a clicking sound with every jaw movement or step ”damaged”. What I suspect is that with repeated driver flex, the “surround” on the driver (the part that flexes as the driver moved) gets more pliable, making it even more prone to driver flex.

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

The U12T have a 5-10db boost in bass whereas the Ara have a fairly flat bass. I'm curious to hear more impressions about the Ara. I suspect many people will find they don't have sufficient bass.

    Campfire - Solaris

I know manufacturers say that, but my experience with Xelento was different. What started out as driver flex only when inserting them became worse over a few months until any slight change in ear pressure (like moving my jaw or even just walking) caused the same driver flex clicking sound...

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

P.S. I’ve got one of those cheapo, crappy Fantasia cables as well. I much prefer the Meze cable; it’s higher quality, sounds better, and is balanced. Since it seems all the cables I bought for my Elear work with the MDR-Z7M2, I’ve got a fair selection.

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

I prefer it over the stock cable. For some reason, when using the headphones with the stock cable, they kept generating static electricity which would create a shock when I touched the cable and would trigger my Schiit Bifrost 2 to mute itself, needing a reboot. After a day of that I switched to...

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

I own and use the three Beyerdynamic T1 cables sold by Beyer, including XLR, 3.5mm and 2.5mm. The quality is excellent. Meze Audio’s 99 Series headphone cables also work well. The 2.5mm cable is a good value at $50. I don’t think they make an XLR cable though.
