Computer Monitor Recommendations
Forgot to update this -- I ended up buying and returning a Dell 32 or 34" (can't rememebr which - good monitor, but not quite big enough (my work PC has an older aspect ration, which is like the proverbial square peg in the rectangualr hole of split-screening... Ended up with a mildly curved LG...- fzman

Thanks, Tom. Still trying to get the lay of the tube land, as much as possible.... Luckily the amp sounds great. Period! None of the tubes I've tried sounded bad, and the differences are small but important. That siad, since I was on a roll with the VT-231 and putting these Heddphones thru...- fzman

Having not done any tube rolling for a while, i just swapped out a 1950's Sylvania 6SN7 for a Sylvanis VT-231 with the annchor logo on the base, opposite the side with the designation on it. It 'sounds louder' than the non- Mil spec tube. I know that 'sounds louder' is vague and subjective...- fzman

The signall flow is turntable, phono preamp, line stage preamp, Studio Six. The phono pre and line stage are home-built by me, from schematics provided by a friend. The system sounds great, and plays 'loudly enough'. I was not asking to change tube-types or ater internal components in the...- fzman

@TomSix I have a few questions about the tech specs of the 'Six'. I am using some 42 R, 87dB/mw cans, and a phono preamp with low-ish gain (not sure the exact spec-- I built it, and have not measured). On LPs cut at somewhat low levels, I can turn the volume control all the way up, and want a...- fzman

been playing vinyl lately: vintage H-K T25 table, AT VM740ML cart, phono preamp I built from scratch (discrete FETs, into the Six. Sublime. Been comparing carts lately on this rig (found some after-market "headshells" for the arm). Also have Ortofon 2M brinze (lots of hours on it), vintage used...- fzman

I've been told that the direction, as in which end of the fuse goes in first can matter, as it does with cabling (claims are similar, have not really done much verification myself.... Your version is a new 'twist' to me- fzman

Tom, I was quite surprised by the changes/ikmprovements made. I've used "audiophile fuses" in the past, and heard, at best, small changes. These fuses simply pushed all of the right buttons for me. I read almost nothing about their design or construction, and have not looked at any of their...- fzman

I think the cabling and fuses are not to compensate for poorly designed gear, but to support and supplement already well-designed and made stuff. IOW, a wonderfully over-built, high performance suspension in a car is supplemented by an excellent roadway. In addition, it's not just fuses, per...- fzman

I don;t know about the mattresses, but the purple fuses are the real deal. They seem to strip away a layer of something between me and the music, it is simply more real, present and just "there". It is a real challenge to not listen to a whole album, so I can try out a variety of genres to make...- fzman

Not sure if quoting myself is the best way to do this, but it seemed the most efficient. After a brief dalliance with a WA6-SE, I am back powering the S6. I made two changes to the above-mentioned tube complement: I replaced the Mazdas with these: Kenrad VT-231s and replaced the Regulators...- fzman

How much of it is the GE, part, vs the Made in UK part, vs other kinds of that tube. Is there is sense of how that tube designation sounds compared to 6DE7 or 6EW7? curious as always, as I just swapped out NOS RCA 6DE7s for Sylvania 6DE7s -- seems like it made a bigger differnce sonically than...- fzman

1. It's NOT a $400 amp, it's an amp you PAID $400 for!- good deal. enjoy the amp 2. the tubes are part of the amp, just unlike most semionductors, you can change them yourself, and quite easily. 3. the amp's performance will be a function of both the circuit design/execution and parts...- fzman

Thanks for letting me know. My thought was simply to try to power it up with either fuse by itself and see if either one playing solo would make the amp work. Pulling either one randomly would not answer the question, since the other one could be 'it'. The amp is on a top shelf, and the housiing...- fzman

does anyone know whether both fuses in the holder are in use, or is one just a spare? some holders have an extra 'space' for a spare-so you know where it is.....
