It's kind of sad to see out-of-production models continually being recommended. The X-series models aren't terrible, but it seems like quite a number who have compared the older models against them will prefer the older models. After the Hemp sold very well (so much that there was a 2nd...

The GS3000e uses the same drivers. Agree, great headphone after the bass is boosted a little. I pair it with the Pro iCAN which has iFi's best implementation of the XBass feature that I originally loved on their Micro iDSD Black Label.

Grado uses glue. You could try gluing it back in yourself, but then you'll void any future authorized service. Grado charges a flat fee of $300 for GS3000e service. (I got my drivers replaced a year ago.)

Oh, most recently, a sealed Bushmills (2013) sold for $1000 on eBay. Not bad considering the original price was $400. That one had special display packaging and was most famously known as Grado's only semi-open headphone: the vents are just tiny slits on the side. (OK, there's also the SR40 but...

Not great. Typically the models that are valued above retail are legendary ones like the HP2, or some ultra rare variant like the SR300 w/Blackstar drivers, PS1, or more recently, the Oreo, of which 45 are known to exist as part of a contest. The GH4 never really got much hype.

I'd say it's the GS1000x because the stock tuning isn't as weighty as the rest, and reminded me of a less grainy GS2000e. The cup is half-mahogany which was the primary wood in previous generations. None of the other x-series models use mahogany. Note that the G pads may present a bit of...

Not certain about the GW100X, but I read the GW100 sounded different when it was wireless compared to wired. The wireless mode had some automatic EQ applied to it. I couldn't tell you which was better because I never demoed one myself. If that's the sound you want, then none of the x-series...

The GH4 shouldn't need EQ; it's the best stock Grado I've heard and that's why I have mine. (It also acted as a faithful backup while my GS3000e was being repaired.) I understand if you're putting Grado G pads on it, though, as those pads cause anything not designed for them to become sibilant...

When I demoed the entire X-series line (minus the SR125x) at Toronto Audiofest last year, the GS3000x stood out due to how much midbass impact it had. Significantly more than anything else in the X lineup, and it's the only one with metal, so that's probably your best shot. Unfortunately, I...

Curious to know your impressions and comparison, as it's been forever since I've heard a GH2. In other news, finally sold my Hemp last night after several weeks on the market. The darker muddier sound signature just wasn't for me. Hope the new owner enjoys it!

The 225 shouldn't really be compared directly to the 225e. Different driver and cup. The 225e is much more widely available, too, as any 225 is at least 17 years old by this point.

Anyone going to Toronto AudioFest (October 20-22) this year? I went last year and spent extensive time at the Grado booth. If anyone wants my Hemp I can sell it in-person at TAF for $350 CAD. Interestingly, Totem Acoustic, which had a large presence last year, is absent this year. Wonder what...

Selling my Hemp on CAM because they really get no headtime from me anymore and I can't justify keeping both the Hemp and the GH4.

Haven't posted here in a while. I cut your quote a bit short to reply to some of the points. Grado not replying is curt New York City service and attitude. There are hundreds of pizzerias in NYC. Don't like what they serve? They're not going to kiss your ass. Same will apply here. I believe...

That site should honestly be blacklisted from discussion as it's a counterfeit site. It isn't like something like Symphones where the creator specifically states they're something different. That site is peddling counterfeits as real Grado drivers.

Oh look another video where Grados are dismissed because they don't follow the Harman curve. To be fair I don't think the video was terrible, only moderately awful because he couldn't be bothered to stretch the headband. But what's the point of naming the 3 Grado models (SR80x/125x/225x) if he...

Oof. Flash heat wave in April and the building won't turn on the AC. Had to unplug my DAC and amp and go back to the trusty Micro iDSD BL because it outputs far less heat. Grados still sound great with it :relaxed: "Better" equipment isn't always better haha.

Very unconvincing fake. Note that a real GS3000e/GS3000x has tall lettering which you can see here and here. Grado's own side picture that shows standard font height is likely a mockup or a prototype sample.

The PS1000 (which was part of the i-series; there's no "PS1000i") was Grado's last large headphone with 44mm drivers. Therefore it (and the GS1000/GS1000i) sound significantly different than the large headphones that came after it. Whether or not that's better or worse is personal taste. The...

Actually it's the reverse. The pads by default only fit on the smaller models. Larger models must have their diameter measured. I had to return my Beautiful Audio large pads because they just didn't fit on my GS3000e. (Soon after this the site implemented the diameter check.)

Grado almost never sends out review samples. You have dishonest reviewers who are in it to just get free gear and not have to pay a cent for it. At this point, you would think one of these reviewers would just spend the money to review the entire x-series line at once and compare them with the...

That's incorrect. I weighed some of the models at Toronto AudioFest while lifting the cable to minimize the effect of that on the weight. Left to right: GS3000e, GS3000x, PS2000e. Unfortunately I forgot to weigh the GS1000x, but it was significantly lighter than the GS3000e, so I'd estimate it...

Is it because they're actually not at CanJam? I don't see them listed as an exhibitor. Grado Canada was at Toronto AudioFest last summer and I got to try out the entire x-series line in a relatively quieter area, as the Grado booth was in the hotel lobby rather than in any exhibit hall area...

The original PS500/HF2 was one of Grado's smoothest headphones. This reviewer stated he preferred the PS500 over the PS500e and GH1. Personally I never gravitated towards any of the metal models due to weight concerns. My first Grado was a SR225i over the SR325is. You might be in the camp (like...

Driver matching beyond 2khz is a crapshoot, unfortunately. I've heard quite a few models that just have the frequency sweep tone erratically pan left and right in the treble region. Doesn't matter if it's a high-end model or not. The "drivers matched 0.05dB" thing is marketing fluff. I don't...
