If you don't mind divulging, what other cables did you end up ordering? From what I gather, American Spirit has mentioned the NiceHCK BlackSoul, DragonScale, and MoonGod cables as possible upgrades. Thanks!- Brian A

The PENON official thread
So, I tried experimenting with the Storm cable from my Legends on the Impacts. With auditory memory being so short, I was unable to conclude any siginificant differences, other than perhaps slightly recessed vocals compared to the stock Obsidian cable. Overall, I think I still prefer the...- Brian A

Yes, I do have both. I'll experiment with them and report what I hear, but I'm certainly not as accomplished at discerning and describing auditory nuances as others on this forum.- Brian A

I was primarily interested in which cable would give the Impacts a similar treble performance to the RGB. I very much like the mid-forward signature of the Impacts, and I'm not certain whether I would prefer the treble characteristics of the RGB.- Brian A

Thanks very much for the helpful comparison. Do you have any specific alternative cable recommendations for the Impact? Would the Storm be a good match, as it has some silver content?- Brian A

The Legend is still definitely in my rotation, and I also use Spiral Dot++ with it. Until I purchased the Impact, the Legend was my favorite Penon IEM, and I preferred it even to the Sony IER-Z1R. TBH, the Legend (with Storm cable) is quite close to the Impact.- Brian A

Great review! If one already owns the Penon Impact with a Totem cable, is the RGB still a significant upgrade?- Brian A

The PENON official thread
I don't own the Serial, so I can't comment about that IEM specifically. However, I would definitely not sell the Fan 2 to have only the Volt, as I actually prefer the signature of the Fan 2. If you really want to hear some of the best tuning Penon has to offer, you owe it to yourself to try...- Brian A

The PENON official thread
I just have to say that the Fan 2 is so ridiculously good, the value is staggering compared to other (significantly) more expensive IEMs. I just received the ISN S2 cable for it today, and have been listening to my favorite tracks on my Cayin N8ii with a smile on my face all afternoon. I also...- Brian A

That's an easy recommendation... Penon Legend (1.3k). Penon is particularly well regarded for their mids tuning, and the Legend exemplifies this better than any of their other offerings.- Brian A

Yay! Another Penon Legend fan! I've been listening to the new Pink Floyd "Animals" remix SACD on my set today (driven by a Cayin N8ii), and it's magnificent. So I'll add some more Penon love to the survey: 1) Penon Legend (with Storm cable) 2) Penon Volt (with Totem cable) 3) Sony IER-Z1R- Brian A

Here are my current three: 1. Penon Legend - It's really a shame how underrated and overlooked this IEM is. Truly TOTL sound, especially when paired with the Storm cable. 2. Sony IER-Z1R 3. UM MEST MKII- Brian A

Cayin N8ii: The Incredible DAP with ROHM DAC and fully BAL Nutube
Hi Andy, Any word from HiBy on when they will fix this bug? I am actually interested in this update, since it is the first time HiBy included login credentials for SMB access. Previously, the HiBy Music app was never able to correctly and consistently access my NAS files.- Brian A

Cayin N8ii: The Incredible DAP with ROHM DAC and fully BAL Nutube
I just wanted to give @Andykong and the rest of the N8ii users a heads up... if you upgrade the HiBy Music app to the latest version (V1.7.2 build 6045) that was apparently just released, the native Cayin Music app will no longer load (it just locks up on the title screen). The only way I could...- Brian A

FiiO M15 Audio Player | Dual AK4499EQ | 7490 mAh Battery | 64 GB ROM | $1299.99
You might want to try downloading the latest "M" version (3.0.9) of the FiiO music app from here: https://forum.fiio.com/note/showNoteContent.do?id=202105071626425774349 The download on the Play Store is probably just the generic Android version.- Brian A

Introducing Penon new TOTL flagship In-ear Monitor LEGEND and Storm
I'm still getting familiar with the Monarch MKII. It is clearly technically proficient with very good resolution, but the tuning is fairly "neutral" (not necessarily a negative) and just not as emotionally engaging as the Legend, particularly in the mids. I typically listen to the Legend in...- Brian A

Introducing Penon new TOTL flagship In-ear Monitor LEGEND and Storm
I definitely concur. I have a wide variety of IEM's including an Andromeda OG, Solaris OG, Sony IER-Z1R, UM MEST MKII, Oriolus Isabellae, Thieaudio Monarch MKII, and even a Penon Volt+Totem, and the Legend (+Storm) is easily my favorite amongst all of them. It is a superbly tuned IEM that is...- Brian A

Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)
I have also just confirmed via multimeter measurements exactly what Mark has described on my Null Audio Lune Mark IV cable. I always felt something was "off" with the sound when I used this cable, and now I also understand the reason. That's $200 down the drain... very disappointing. Good...- Brian A

Hiby R6 Pro - serious upgrade to popular DAP
I just received a new R6 Pro (international version), and for some reason the media keys (play, previous & next) do not operate within the Hiby music app, but work as expected in both UAPP and Neutron. The firmware is build 1.1G, and the buttons are set to "operable" in the system settings. Am...- Brian A
