    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I agree. There is no doubt that amp can make a significant difference in sound, but some people make it sound like you have to spend $3000 to make HD800 even tolerable.   It's simply not true.

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Actually, having thought about it some more, I reflected back to various experiences. The one pet peeve I have is when sound is seemingly coming from slightly behind you, often very much hard left or hard right. I find physically moving moving headphones forward, so your ears are further towards...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Soundstage / imaging varies so wildly from recording to recording. Granted yes with HD800, the space is larger than most, I found it mostly recording dependent (especially with things like classical). I think over time you get used to it, too.   You really develop a preference for certain...

New from Garage1217, the solid-state Project Polaris!

Acrylic, and really glad I did. The thing is captivating to look at, and is somehow very satisfying to my OCD. Everything is so nicely spaced and laid out; wouldn't be able to see that with the metal casing!   I did switch to a white LED from blue, and dimmed it a bit, perfect.

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

It is of course very interesting that many people end up 1) buying HD800 again after their sell their initial pair and 2) many hear no difference in the vast serial number range. If that's true why do they come back? There must be a part of the HD800 spell that doesn't wear off so easily. Having...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

So...I carry the torch of HD800 proudly. That said, it pretty much never leaves the house, where it requires a pretty healthy set of gear to really make it impressive.    I have a work rig that currently is made up of a Fiio E17, which of course is inadequate for the sennheisers. I am...

That's interesting, acoustic performances are one the things I love my 800's the most for! :P

Yeah, I agree, and have experienced this on occasion. It is annoying.

I agree, totally flat isn't often desirable, but.... no... nevermind. Inner peace.

I'm not totally sure what that means, but I'm tempted to disagree regardless :D   No... everything has a frequency curve, not an EQ.

Actually based on that, HD650 would be the better choice for me... not because I'd prefer, but because it would offer much more contrast to HD800. HD600 sounds like a mini HD800 in that review the way it is described.

LOL.... wow, exile is harsh. I don't even self identify as a 'grado guy' :P

Yes, I suspect you're correct. I likely already have the two I'd want if I bought them again (HD598/800).   I'll audition them someday.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Alright people....convince me. If I were to get smaller sennheisers, I feel like I'd lean HD600 before 650's. Why should I go 650?

lol, it's true eh? I do apologize for the Grado-centric talk... ironically I'm at least on the surface anti HD650! .... Though not anti-Sennheiser...I own two.

I don't know about other Grados, but the RS1i are not only about treble. I mean yes they have plenty, but it's the boosted mid range that makes electric guitars / vocals come so far forward. No they do not have strong bass, I'm not sure they're meant to.

I've never been a huge fan of the looks either, but yes, the sound absolutely makes up for it in my mind haha

Of course you do sunshine .   Actually I had considered PS500 beforehand, I opted for RS1i. If I wanted Grados, I want it to raaaack out to some classic rock.... who who knew, it's decent with some other things too!   Plus at work, they create a buzz with the ladies. It's the wood.

I do not disagree at all. Canadian Maestro has PS500, and I got my RS1i from him, I should find out what the differences are.

Oh, I'm just going to say it, it's a difficult sound, they have. I don't know if it's poor recording, or whatever.    That's the thing though, these Grados make Zepp a great experience, and that ALONE makes them sacred in my stable haha.   And as far as RS1e....I would try them, but the only...

LOL....No chance in %$*^$*^. I find my HE-500 to warm at times and they're considered 'relatively neutral'....or at least more so then HD650.... I think... :P

Led Zeppelin. The way Zeppelin sounds through these Grados is enough for me to keep them. That combo of high energy, and the mid range catering to Jimmy's playing... but not so dark they sound dirty.    Maybe it's not logical, but it totally works for me.

...and yes, sir. The HD650 don't appeal to me hugely. They can be acquired so cheap I should try them...just to REALLY know.
