Depending on your headphones, the hiss can be quite prominent and easily noticeable. My ES2s are highly sensitive and the hiss is as loud as I've heard on any iPod I've owned. However, as odd as it sounds, the hiss doesn't affect SQ. Sound quality is just as good as the 1G shuffle, if not better.
