I've always been curious to hear McIntosh gear. It will be interesting to see how they handle a headphone amp.- AnalogSavior

Why are darker headphones so rare?
I don't think it's that bad of a disparity. You have the HD650, all he Audezes, the Oppos, and Shure and Westone iems, just to name a few. They're out there, but I'll agree, definitely in less numbers, and usually at higher prices. I think the trend towards bright comes from the perception that...- AnalogSavior

Need help selecting an amp for my set up!
Just on my experience with Grados and Vali separately, I think it probably would be a decent match if it wasn't for the hiss being made worse by the Grado's high sensitivity. Of course, I'm just speculating here. Honestly, if you want a good tube amp that works with your cans and allows...- AnalogSavior

Schiit Stack White Noise
As above, try it without the splitter. If that doesn't solve it, check volume and setting on your computer. Then check the Schiit trouble shooting faq. If none of that works, you may have a defective unit. It happens, call Schiit, and they should sort it out.- AnalogSavior

Custom IEM on a 1-1.5K budget?
Innerfidelity has a few comparative reviews of both TOTL and budget CIEMs. That might be a good place to start.- AnalogSavior

Schiit Asgard 2 with HE-560s or Audeze EL-8
Everyone knows 560s only start to open up at 123dB, and need a minimum of 50 watts per channel.- AnalogSavior

Need help selecting an amp for my set up!
Vali is pretty nice. Works well with plenty of headphones, gives a nice touch of warm, but can be a little noisy (low level hiss) and others have found it microphonic (not my experience). For the price, I think Vali is a steal. Definitely worth considering.- AnalogSavior

In search of a <$2000 DAC for Bryston BHA-1
The Schiit Gungnir is a pretty good DAC in my experience. With USB it goes for $850.- AnalogSavior

Value of specifications and reviews?
I think there is some good advise here OP. Find reviewers whose tastes match yours, figure out who to ignore and learn how to weave through the hype. I have tended to agree with Tyll from Innerfidelity, so he is my go to for initial impressions. But you can only get to that point by...- AnalogSavior

what a direct upgrade from Sennheiser HD 558 would be
Consider the HD600. I like the Fielio X2, and don't find it bright, but rather very well balanced. My HD598 are definitely more shouty. I found the HE560s to be bright on multiple listening occasions, even through warm tube gear. Not my cup of tea. Just a few thoughts.- AnalogSavior

TUBE VS SOLID
I tend to prefer tubes, but in my experience well designed tube and SS amps are more similar sounding than you would think.- AnalogSavior

He400i or X2 or... ?
Zero sibilance is tough, and listening is the only way to test and know if you can handle the treble. I have experience with both, and I didn't find either particularly bright, though I would say I have a decent amount of tolerance. For reference, I find the AKG K702, Hifiman HE-560, and...- AnalogSavior

Philips Fidelio X2?!
Just got my pair of X2s. Initial impressions: I like what I hear! The best way I can describe the sound is balanced, like every frequency range is emphasized (to paraphrase a bit from the Innerfidelity review). And the bass is excellent compared to my HD598s, but also my memory of various...- AnalogSavior

I'm looking forward to this Rag, Taurus, KSA5 comparison. Especially with the wide variety of headphones it looks like we will have at the meet. Quote: Its been so long since I've heard an Asgard2. I've really been wanting to compare it to Valhalla2.- AnalogSavior

ah.. and yet another recommendation thread ( open headphones sub $200)
I was going to recommend the HD598 (or 558 if you wanna save some money), but if you have listened to them, and find their bass lacking then you may wish to up your budget, or look into some closed cans which will have a more emphasized bass response.- AnalogSavior

Nice to see we have a time and place now. I put it on my schedule. I can bring my HD598, Vali, Modi, MDR7506 and KSC75. Quote: That would be a great comparison. I really want to hear the Speedball Crack.- AnalogSavior

[NOOB] "V-shaped" IEMs under 70€
Again, I won't give advice on something I don't own or haven't tried, but I do trust innerfidelity. They tend to fall in line with my preferences, though those may not match yours. I'm, sure there is an RHA thread in the IEM forum. Try asking there maybe?- AnalogSavior

Need AMP+DAC recommendations for my newly purchased "DT990 Premium 600o"
I've run 300 ohm Senns out of an iPad to painful levels without maxing out. YMMV. Of course sound quality should improve with a quality amp.- AnalogSavior

No experience with Fiio gear, and the Ubers just came out, so I have yet to hear them. Try the specific threads in the amp forum, they might be able to give you more specific answers on specific pieces of equipment.- AnalogSavior
