Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread

Just received my Magni Heretic last week! At the price of $59 USD, I had to get one. I really like this thing! I like the small form factor on my desk, and the three gain settings. I like the color scheme, and the red glow emanating from the vent holes. It's got a fairly smooth volume pot, away...

    ZMF Auteur Thread

See, this is exactly my gut feeling: the Auteur Classic might be one of those rare 'Goldilocks headphones' for me. Headphones with 'spot on' tonality are really hard to beat. I've owned higher tier headphones that could not outright beat (or even match) the HD650 in tonality, and it would...

Focal Stellia Review, Measurements, Interview - Head-Fi TV

I can reply to this one, since I was the previous owner who happened to darken the headband. :p I'd say it took about a year, maybe even less, to evenly darken. I didn't do anything other than wear them normally. I do listen to music everyday, and they were my main headphones for listening to...

    ZMF Auteur Thread

I've owned the Auteur Classic for a year now. I can definitely concur with what others are saying: this headphone is pretty much a "Super HD600/650" to me. This is high praise in my book, because it's exactly what I've been looking after owning an HD600 at the beginning of my journey. I just...

Feedback by 'Kevin.T' on listing 'Quicksilver Headphone Amplifier'

Smooth and easy transaction with Daniel! He answered to messages quickly, sent the payment promptly, and packed the traded Schiit Piety well for safe transit. Thanks again, and enjoy the Quicksilver amp!

Up for sale is a Quicksilver Headphone Amplifier. I got this unit in a trade last month. However, it doesn't quite fit in my setup, so I have to let this one go. This amp is very well regarded, lots of positive reviews around. It also has the benefit of being transformer coupled, making it...

Quicksilver Audio Headphone Amplifier any opinions?

Hey guys, just wanted to give a quick update on this "left channel hum'" issue I had. It was actually a blown resistor in the amp! I did a lot of troubleshooting, including bringing the amp to another building. I got the very same hum in the other building. That's when I figured it had to be...

Quicksilver Audio Headphone Amplifier any opinions?

I hear it as consistent. There are no "swings", it's just a constant low buzzing in the left channel. My unit doesn't make an external buzzing noise that would be concerning (I mean, I can hear a very faint hum if I put my ear riiiight up to the unit, but I imagine this is normal). Thanks for...

Quicksilver Audio Headphone Amplifier any opinions?

I just acquired this beast of an amp in a trade (along with the supremely enjoyable Auteur Classics). I am having a bit of noise issues with the amp using the Auteur, and it's almost exactly like luishi5000 describes! I hear a low level buzz in the left channel. Just like luishi5000, the buzz...

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

This is one thing I'd read about when doing Web searches, before posting this thread. Was REALLY hoping this would be the solution, but it turns out that service is nowhere to be found on my PC.

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

Well, it plays fine in MusicBee. I only had the gap happen in Foobar. In any case, I think increasing the hardware buffer solved it: in five plays, I've not had it happen once (and it used to happen almost every time, at least once during the playthrough). Another quick update: since my mobo...

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

First of all, thank you everyone for the replies. Little update: the gap in gapless playback might be a software issue after all. It's one album in particular, which happens to be 24/192 FLAC. I ran this album a couple of times in both MusicBee and Foobar, and it only seems to happen in Foobar...

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

I had set all USB ports to not turn off in order to save power, both in Device Manager and Power settings (USB selective suspend = disabled). However, I noticed just now that I had left the power plan in Balanced mode. I just put it in High performance. If it helps, I'll let you know. I also...

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

It happens with local files also, using MusicBee and Foobar2000. In Foobar, I can add 500ms preroll silence to mitigate this very effectively, but the gapless transition thing I mentioned happened while I was playing an album in Foobar.

My USB DAC occasionally cuts off the first half-second of audio (Windows 10)

I'm having a weird issue using external USB DACs on my PC (Windows 10): I occasionally get a half-second audio cutoff when starting an audio file. For example: when starting a YouTube video (will miss the first word if it starts right away with dialogue), or starting a song (will miss the first...

Follow-up on the decaying headband saga: I've found a cheap, comfortable, and esthetically-pleasing solution to salvage my Nighthawks! I've decided to purchase this headband cover...

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

I just sent them an email, which took all of sixty seconds (nothing to lose I guess). But, from all posts I can find online (on here, other forums and Reddit), people say they've stopped selling replacement headbands a good while ago. I'll let you guys know what (if) they reply! EDIT: Wow...

HOLY CRUD!! Balls of steel, right there! Thanks for sharing, surely it'll be helpful for those of us left with a slowly decaying headband. Cheers!!

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

It seems I've started to run into the dreaded headband disintegrating. :frowning2: The outer edges of the faux-suede (underside) have started flaking, leaving tiny black residues on anything it rests on (head, hands, headphone stand). Fortunately, the flat part of the underside is still fine for...

ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

I have both the Atticus (w/ lambskin & suede Ori pads) and the Focal Stellia on hand right now. These are my impressions regarding isolation and leakage. In terms of isolation (from outside noises): Atticus (with lambskin Ori pads) = Stellia (comparable) Atticus (with suede Ori pads) < Stellia...

ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

I recently took out my Burson Soloist (1st gen, non-SL) to try with the Atticus. I was previously running the Atticus balanced on my THX 788 alone (cleaner solution for my desk). I have to say, after listening to this setup for a while, the Atticus feels decidedly tighter, punchier and...

ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

New Atticus owner here! Since we're on the subject of pads, I thought I'd share my experience: When I first got the headphones, I'd wear them with a pretty snug fit (clamp). I've since switched to a more relaxed fit, with the cups resting on my ears (rather than pressing against my ears). This...

Hifiman Sundara (HE400i upgraded, around $500)

My first thinking was the headphone cable being the culprit. But then, you mention the issue happens on both the balanced and SE outputs of your amp. Are you saying you have two different cables for your Sundara, and this issue happens with both of them? Or is it the same cable, with an adapter?

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

Chiming in with new impressions: I started using my Project Polaris to power the NH with the protein leather ("Boost") pads. There's an adjustable switch on the Polaris that rolls off excessive high frequencies, starting at around 9-10kHz. I set mine on medium bandwidth, which is a very slight...
