Well said.  When possible, I always try to audition gears that I am interested in. 

Never heard of the B22 yet, but I was very impressed by an Burson audition 2 weeks ago.  I think it is "warmer" because it just reproduces a hell lot more detail with each note.  I don't actually think it's "warmer".. but fuller in sound.  It's almost LP like in the volume of sonic information...

Shure SRH840 ATH-M50's   The M50's have better bass, and the 840's are more balanced. Both will be fine with your source.    And welcome aboard! 

A good source is important to make them sound sweet...if you have the chance to try both before buying, would be great.  

Buy both...the Soundcard is still important to have quality sound. (i've heard positive feedback on the Compass dac) These cans need power.

I would choose the Sony if i dont have another choice. Had bad experiences with philips.
