At 5" x 2" x 1" with awkward triangular corners, it may not fit in your pocket at all. Problem solved!- Sarah

Jazz Recommendations from this Century
I was pretty disappointed with that Zorn collaboration (I'm coming at it from Zorn fandom, not Metheny fandom). The Book of Angels is some of my favorite music by anyone anywhere, and this was one of the weakest volumes for me. Out of 20 volumes it's the only one where I didn't bother putting... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
I guess I shouldn't really complain about Boston - like you say, it's got a better scene than most places. It's just that the jazz we have here isn't so much to my taste and the clubs aren't either. The bigger jazz venues here are catering towards baby boomers (and older folks) who want a... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
Honestly, I'm not that excited about the local jazz scene... we get some good musicians/bands but a lot of the local jazz clubs are awful. I go to NYC when I can piece together enough shows to make paying for a hotel room worthwhile. I spent 13 nights there since Christmas and saw a total of... -
Jazz Recommendations from this Century
There's been an absolute embarrassment of riches in terms of live jazz lately, for me anyway.... (I have to assume any jazz you can see live is "contemporary" by definition, right?) Standouts include: John Medeski on solo piano The Bad Plus on NYE at the Village Vanguard Marc Ribot Trio... -
What Live concerts have you attended?
Probably a couple hundred times. In fact, twice in the last two months I was not only there without friends, but I was the only audience member who showed up at the concert. Now THAT is awkward! (I write concert reviews for two different websites - my blog and a punk/DIY sort of online 'zine... -
What Live concerts have you attended?
I've been on a really outrageous concert tear lately. I've been saving money (and co-worker/boss goodwill) for a couple of years in anticipation of John Zorn's 60th birthday concerts... I'd already been to a couple of events earlier this year, but September 2013 was The Big One for us Zorn fans... -
What Live concerts have you attended?
Since my last post in this thread on November 18 2012... and not including half a dozen jazz improv sets with too many musicians to bother listing... I have seen: A Far Cry (Haydn, Cage, Schnittke) Alloy Orchestra (From Morn to Midnight) Amanda Palmer Baby Soda Jazz Band Brian... -

Tzadik label
I have a ton of Tzadik stuff. (And a lot of it is really nice-sounding!) I haven't heard Radar, and they are proving difficult to google... radar, no. Radar band, no. Radar music band, amazingly still no... LOL. File under "what not to name your band," I guess! (I did find it eventually... -

No longer receiving any site e-mails?
A while back I just stopped receiving all e-mail notifications from the site. I didn't change anything... it just stopped. They're not in my junk folder or anything like that. Is there some way I can fix this? I keep forgetting to come to the site to check the forums because I'm so used to...- Sarah

Looking for new music.
Some of my recent bandcamp faves... four totally different genres: http://lesrhino.bandcamp.com/ http://deadcombo.bandcamp.com/ (they have a free bonus download if you look at their other albums) http://idanraichelproject.bandcamp.com/ http://electricepic.bandcamp.com/ -

Looking for a compact case for ES-49 earplugs...
Didn't get much interest, but I'm just going to post this here in case someone else goes searching for it one day... after scouring the internet for all kinds of solutions, I decided to go with this one. It is actually a lipstick case. (For the manly types, you can get plain shiny-metal lipstick...- Sarah

12% off at Guitar Center with code GOOGLE12. Not sure if their headphone prices are good enough that 12% makes anything a deal, but it can't hurt...- Sarah

Looking for a compact case for ES-49 earplugs...
Howdy head-fiers! I finally took the plunge and got fit for custom earplugs to wear to concerts (I go to a lot of them). I'm looking for a hard case to put them in that is protective and secure, but small enough to put in a pocket easily or - ideally - attach to a keychain so I can't forget...- Sarah

10 Second Survey - Music or Gear?
Quote: That's my first thought, too - concerts. I could find $1000 worth of gear to buy but I don't really need it; I would honestly have a difficult time buying $1000 of music. I tend to be quite slow in absorbing new music, everything I buy needs a few listens and maybe a couple of weeks... -
GRADO GR10: Reviews, First Impressions Thread
The only aftermarket warranty I have on any possession is my GR10s. I bought a 3-year Squaretrade warranty with accidental damage coverage. It provides me peace of mind since it's just so easy to break IEMs. Someone tries to squeeze past you while you're asleep on a plane, snags your cable, bam...- Sarah

I am so in on the SP51s. I was thinking about picking up a pair of those recently but decided it was a little too expensive. At $20? I'll happily give them a shot!- Sarah

Monster Miles Davis Tribute thread
That site is incredibly obviously fake without worrying about the color of the box. "All cheap dr dre headphones for sale at up 45% discount, beats by dr dre discount sale in Our beats by dr dre online store." What part of that looks like it was written by a reputable website?- Sarah

Monster Miles Davis Tribute thread
Got my discount MMDTs today (I can't resist a good deal on high-end IEMs...). I listened for about 5 minutes, thinking to myself they were the most godawful pair of crap headphones I've ever heard, truly bizarre sound sig and just all-around awful in really unusual ways. I was really losing my...- Sarah
