Testing changes that could affect audio performance with different file copying software
So why are you here? The tweaks DBT-free forum is 20 pixels above this from the forum homepage. Go there if you want to make unsubstantiated claims. I don't care what you think, what you used to think, what your "audiophile friend" thinks, what he was surprised about, or your emotions...- KyPeN

Testing changes that could affect audio performance with different file copying software
Software engineer here. You're gonna have to detail, and I mean detail, what "dedicated file copier software means." If I use Windows standard copy within Explorer, a Python script that copies the file over directly, or a C++ program that copies the bits over directly via its own (let's...- KyPeN

How Many Times Have Your LCD3 Headphones Been Returned to Audeze for Servicing (RMA)?
No, I haven't called sales because I don't have time to go bouncing department to department trying to figure out if Audeze has repaired my headphones, where they are, etc. They're not responding to me through their support system. That's utterly unacceptable. There's no two ways about that...- KyPeN

How Many Times Have Your LCD3 Headphones Been Returned to Audeze for Servicing (RMA)?
FYI all, I have e-mailed Consumerist with my concerns and issues I've been dealing with and seeing. I've pasted the e-mail I've sent them below (personal information redacted): Consumerist folks, I purchased a pair of headphones made by an American headphone manufacturer known for...- KyPeN

Need simple USB -> SPDIF device that supports 44.1khz bit-perfect output
I have been unable to convince the UA202 to pass DD/DTS bitstreams through SPDIF without decoding it and just passing 2 channel PCM. Maybe it'll be better on Windows 10, but I'm skeptical. Have you had success?- KyPeN

Need simple USB -> SPDIF device that supports 44.1khz bit-perfect output
That's correct, for DD/DTS sources. If it's 2 channel 44.1khz/16-bit audio, I'd like the device to support outputting that format bit-perfect. Like I said, the M-Audio transit does both of these, but the drivers are incredibly picky and causing maintenance problems in my home (wife can't use...- KyPeN

Need simple USB -> SPDIF device that supports 44.1khz bit-perfect output
I'm just looking for a simple digital transport that supports 44.1khz output and DD/DTS passthrough via optical or coax output. I don't want to send audio TO a Kodi machine (poor wording on my part), but the device will CONNECT to the Kodi machine, outputting to an outboard DAC via coax or...- KyPeN

Need simple USB -> SPDIF device that supports 44.1khz bit-perfect output
I'm looking for a very simple USB 2.0 device that satisfies 3 simple requirements: 1) Very basic (preferably generic) drivers 2) Outputs 44.1khz natively (no resampling of native music files) 3) Supports SPDIF passthrough of Dolby Digital/DTS audio Basically, it's going to a Kodi...- KyPeN

New Audeze LCD3
I'm curious to hear what folks are using as their EQ settings. I felt the headphones were a bit bass (<80hz) anemic and Tyll's graphs confirm. I like a little extra myself, so I bumped it up by about 7dB at 60hz (Q-width 1.0) and also upped around 5khz by about 4dB (Q-width 3.0)...- KyPeN

Looks like you're on Windows. What happens if you remove ReClock/KCP (whatever that is)/Oppo's software from the loop and only use Foobar2000 w/ WSAPI (no plugins), and your sound card set to 44.1khz 16-bit in the control panel? You shouldn't need any of those things to get bit perfect output...- KyPeN

How Many Times Have Your LCD3 Headphones Been Returned to Audeze for Servicing (RMA)?
I just got a response from Audeze after a couple correspondences and their representative was very polite, as always. They will be paying my roundtrip shipping costs for the repair and she assured me they would diagnose the root cause of the problem and get back to me.- KyPeN

You're not wrong. Also, more people looking for help, tech support, or to see if this is common will be drawn to the thread. Happy folks are enjoying their LCD3s, not reading about them! As of right now, the poll is at 34 votes: 8 single, 9 double, and 2 triple or more replacements. By...- KyPeN

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
For me, it was a sudden death. Listening contently, put them down to go to a meeting (music paused), and come back to a dead left ear. That said, I could have sworn I was hearing more static than usual the few days prior. I would switch the ears the cable would go to and the static would...- KyPeN

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
Yeah, my usage hasn't changed. I keep them on my desk at work. Approx 6-8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Moderate volumes. I take them on and off probably 5-10 times a day.- KyPeN

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
Yes, it is fazored. I wonder if one or more of the moving parts in the transducer is impacting the fazor, wearing it down? (Note: Pure speculation, I'm a software engineer, not a headphone designer nor an expert in design).- KyPeN

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
Very frustrated w/ Audeze's quality control right now. Almost exactly 1yo LCD-3. 6mo ago, almost to the day, my left driver died. Now, the left is dead again. Again. This is the same driver they replaced. Is this normal? I don't want to be without my favorite cans for 6 weeks while they...- KyPeN

7/26/14 Seattle Redhook Meet impressions
Mark, That was my setup. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed your T1s as well. I agree with your assessment of the post mod AKGs and think it really makes them a lot more fun. The K701s (or their brethren the Q701/2, etc.) can be had for about $200-$240 in the for sale forums...- KyPeN

Upgraded amp + upgraded DAC + FLAC vs. lower end amp + lower end DAC + MP3
My mistake. Typo. Can you define how an amp make the sound better? How did you do the comparison? Blind? Same pair of headphones with levels matched across the amplifiers using the same source? If so, you should drop the $300 (or so) for the NFB-12, buy whatever amp is "clearly better,"...- KyPeN

Upgraded amp + upgraded DAC + FLAC vs. lower end amp + lower end DAC + MP3
Let me start this off by stating that I understand that switching between a high end amp and a perfectly capable "low end" amp makes no discernible difference, despite (potentially) superior specs. Same with DACs, cables, etc. I'm currently listening to my LCD-3s on a $300 (a couple years ago)...- KyPeN

Re-wire/repair K701s?
I pinged AKG, which is owned by Harman/Kardon, and they are sending me a replacement cable. They have no resources on their site on how to disassemble or do repairs, although they used to. The tech told me, "No service documentation available. Our techs learned on the job." O.o BUT, I... -
Re-wire/repair K701s?
I have a pair of k701s that have been a workhorse for a couple years now. Unfortunately, they seem to be losing a connection internally, as one (sometimes both) channel cuts out often unless I jiggle the cable at the connection point to the left headphone. Has anyone performed any...- KyPeN
