Altec Lansing iM716 Predicament
I think the D1 on the board would indicate that it's diode rather than a resistor. Do you have a DMM? If so you can just check to see if it is infact a resistor by checking the resistance.- firefox360

Klipsch owns Energy Speaker company?
I've had excellent experiences with API products over the years, products such as Sound Dynamics 300ti's (which were well known for the excellent sonics emanating from rather plain/boring looking boxes), the famous Energy 22.2's (which were wonderful) and now a pair of Energy C-300's. They're...- firefox360

Buying a car
As a note for BMWs (if you're considering one), you won't be able to buy one brand new from the States. It's against the dealerships' policy with BMW NA. However, you may buy a used model from south of the border, although I believe it's without financing or leasing. BMW warranty would still...- firefox360

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!
There must be a bigger soldering point for the iPod Photo/Colour than just the resistor pads... I'm thinking something along the line of a pad for a capacitor, which should probably be larger than the pads on those resistors.- firefox360

I got my first pizza box today!
I felt that from my (relatively short) auditioning time at an audio store, that the SR-325i is a much more refined version of the SR-60, and that I really liked the SR-325i. The SR-225 however was completely different to me in terms of sound signature. Sounded very neutral, and to me was a...- firefox360

Westone ES1 is it that bad?
I agree on the recommendation for the LiveWires, definitely do check them out. Here's the link to them over at TTVJ. At the price of $249 + the cost of impressions, you get a dual driver IEM (rather than the single driver ES-1) that so far has very positive reviews.- firefox360

Palm Help
In terms of what's being offered in Palm's current product range, if I happened to have to replace my Tungsten T3 (which I hope I won't have to), I'd have to say besides the LifeDrive I would get the TX. With the feature list and specifications, the TX seems as though it's a pretty good handheld...- firefox360

Have you considered the Westone UM1's? They're very good entry IEM's and may even be better than the E3c's.- firefox360

Macbook or Macbook Pro
The extra RAM would probably be helpful with Parallel, but not really necessary with Boot Camp. I've personally have never used Parallel before, but I'de guess that with the standard 2GB of RAM, Parallel should run pretty well for most task.- firefox360

rechargeable Lithium 9 Volt Batteries
Here's one that's avaliable from Thomas Distributing. It's in a standard 9v Package, that outputs 9v with 500mAh. You'll need to buy a lithium charger for it though. You should definitely see longer playback time with this over a NiMH or Akaline, since it has a higher capacity.- firefox360

New DIY idea: USB power conditioner - first layout
I've attempted to make a circuit myself, and it is definitely far more simple than the ones you've posted. Whether the board I've posted works or not is something else though... : I've designed it so that it would fit in the small Hammond 1455C802/1455C801 enclosure, which should match...- firefox360

New DIY idea: USB power conditioner - first layout
Here is a site that list certain specifications for the USB. New DIY idea: USB power conditioner - first layout
Not sure if it's been mentioned or not (if it has been, then sorry for the repeat), but why use the LM317 when you can use the LM7805? It's a tad bit simpler to implement in my opinion, because it's set to output 5vdc at 1A without the need for adjusting resistors. If you do have specified a...- firefox360

How do I drop from 12v to 5v
If you'de rather not waste the power and convert it into heat with the linear regulators, as amb has said, then your only other choice (if you want to use the 12v batteries) is to use a high-quality switching regulator that will hopefully be out of the audio range. But as has been mentioned, the...- firefox360
