Where to buy: Thin sleeving for single conductors?
Actually ended up buying "micro paracord" off ebay which is Type 1 paracord... I think. There's a bunch of stuff listed under "2 mm paracord" which is the same stuff.- Senpai3330

DIY Cable Gallery!!
There is. It's incredibly dumb and I remember it was like $40+ a foot or something on eBay. EDIT: Actually the price isn't bad at all... I might make a Gold plated OCC cable now for the hell of it.- Senpai3330

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread
Sorry, bit of a repost of my question but the DIY forum mainpage is a bit dead and I need an answer fast: There are a few cables out on the market right now like the Effect Audio Thor (pictured) that are using individual nylon/cloth sleeving for each conductor in the braid instead of just one...- Senpai3330

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread
Wait wait wait. Sanity check: why do you need 30 feet of Mogami cable? Just making sure you know W2893 is a quad cable already, there's 4 conductors inside the outer sheathe. And yep you'll need some heatshrink (I recommend buying a variety pack for ~$9 off amazon so you'll have any size you...- Senpai3330

Where to buy: Thin sleeving for single conductors?
There are a few cables out on the market right now like the Effect Audio Thor (pictured) that are using individual nylon/cloth sleeving for each conductor in the braid instead of just one protective covering over the entire braid. I absolutely love the aesthetic and want to recreate it on a few...- Senpai3330

Should I see an audiologist?
I recently noticed my ears have a channel imbalance so to speak. My left hears things noticeably louder than my right. I have good listening habits, safe volumes, rarely go live concerts. I don't think noise-induced hearing loss is very likely. I've confirmed the issue isn't my equipment (tried...- Senpai3330

LCD-2 or 3 as Companion Phones to the HD800
Stax are definitely out of the question for now. Not until I have a stable job and apartment and find $5000 $10K under the kitchen sink :p I think it's interesting you bring up the X though, I got the idea it was tuned closer to neutral compared to the LCD-2 and 3. Specifically I think it was...- Senpai3330

Should the HD 800 factory cable be replaced?
Audio quality aside (blasphemy, I know), the construction of the stock cable is incredibly stiff. Depending on who you are that will either be interpreted as rugged or just plain awful. I started using my HD800s with a DIY braided OCC copper cable I made while waiting for the headphones. Never...- Senpai3330

Matrix Mini-i Pro Impressions?
I guess it's just too new. I can't even pull up any other posts about it. Wasn't a question, thank you though. Also, shouldn't you be Member of the Trade given your sizable eBay Hifi store?- Senpai3330

Matrix Mini-i Pro Impressions?
I was digging through eBay for some used Matrix gear and I saw a new 2014 version of the Mini-i listed as well as the "Pro" version. Now does 24/384 over USB. Supports DSD, DXD Chip switched over to ESS9016 Has anyone gotten their hands on it yet? Looks promising especially for the price.- Senpai3330

Audition Beyer T1 and/or HD800 in the Triangle area, NC
I was curious if any head-fiers in the triangle area (Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill) would be willing to meet up and let me audition their T1 or HD800's since I'm starting to consider them as my next purchase. In return I could bring my LCD-2's or HE-500's for you to try out, if you're...- Senpai3330

Closed phones that stand up to the likes of LCD-2 and HE-500?
Sorry I forgot to post back with what I actually ended up doing. I went ahead and purchased a pair of ATH-W1000X's new with like $150 of cashback rebates. Very very pleased. Now if only I could get my damn oily fingerprints off...- Senpai3330

Would LOVE LOVE LOVE a Raleigh meet. The triangle area is also home to a lot of college students. Might get a slightly different demographic to mix things up a little. If it's in Raleigh count me in!- Senpai3330

FA-003/HM5 vs DT770 vs ATH-M50? (And similar range headphones)
Like Purple Angel said, the DT770's do run into amping issues. Buying the 32 ohm consumer friendly version isn't really a fantastic way to get around that as SQ degradation is well noted by reviews. Having owned the ATH-M50's and FA-003's, I have to say the M50's aren't overrated, but a very...- Senpai3330

20ft patch cable?
Would there be any harm in using a 20 foot extension cable? I really want to listen in bed sometimes. Lets say 24 AWG high quality copper wire is used. There shouldn't be any noticeable signal loss right? I know this is more often discussed for things like coax cables in TV signals.- Senpai3330

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?
Just a fair word of warning: It feels great when you're just doing the physical process of building the amp, but once you hit the electrical troubleshooting... I haven't felt this much anxiety in a while. I had to dig into my old medication to handle how awful I felt today :(- Senpai3330

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?
I was under the idea aluminum is a very popular material for shielding though? The aluminum box should be preventing EMI leak from the transformer is what I was led to believe. The issue is that the IEC inlet contacting the outer main body of the amp is not my choice. The flange mount forces...- Senpai3330

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?
Hey everyone, my Beta22 is build is chugging along, but I'm not sure how the grounding should work out for the layout I've chosen. It's a 1 Chassis build with the transformer isolated into a smaller aluminum enclosure inside the main body. The box for the transformer is isolated from the main...- Senpai3330
