Paid reviewers, and the reality of people not knowing what good audio is anyomore
Not the OP, but I can answer this. Buying the perfect solution from day one is pretty hard, since you need to try differentthings before settling. In my case, I did buy the perfect solution from day one - my Sennheiser HD-580 are as close to perfection as I could ever want them to be. Sure, my...- fjhuerta

Paid reviewers, and the reality of people not knowing what good audio is anyomore
No. I actually like reviews where the reviewer isn't a paid shill. Or when the reviewer doesn't write like a 14 year old. Or when he doesn't fawn over a piece of garbage just because the rest of Head-fi does. I don't care if a reviewer says something bad about my gear. If someone like Tyll...- fjhuerta

Not by me. Unless you are looking at the measurements sidebar, which I believe, is pretty objective and full of interesting information.- fjhuerta

Paid reviewers, and the reality of people not knowing what good audio is anyomore
Now that you mention it, my favorite headphones are the Sennheiser HD-600 and the Etymotic ER-4SR. I started my collection with the HD-580 and the ER-4S. So, you are right. I never found anything better, and I merely updated my gear. The rest of my headphones could die a fiery death tomorrow and...- fjhuerta

Paid reviewers, and the reality of people not knowing what good audio is anyomore
This is a strange moment for me. I used to trust HeadWize. I got my Ety ER-4S because of it. And my AKG 501s. Now I realize times have changed, and that close knit community is now full of people with no idea what they are talking about, bias, or hidden motives. It's time to stop trusting...- fjhuerta

The Quads are nowhere near what a $220+ in ear should sound like. The AKG N20's smoke them, and they are $80+ I did own the Triple Drivers, and thought they were OK for their price. I actually liked them more than the Quads.- fjhuerta

Paid reviewers, and the reality of people not knowing what good audio is anyomore
Preface. I bought a set of $500 Primo8 by Nuforce, because of reviews posted here, and other places. They absolutely SUCK to the nth degree. I also bought a set of Quad Drivers from 1More, and some Dunu Titans. I've been positively underwhelmed by their sound. I remember a time when...- fjhuerta

Review by 'fjhuerta' on item 'Nuforce Primo 8'
Lately, I've been reading praise after praise heaped upon pieces of garbage here that don't deserve any accolades at all. It's here, and it's everywhere. And they are always prefaced by "I got these from the manufacturer in an exchange for an unbiased review..." Ha. Bull. Why do you think...- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
Sold the LG V20 again. It's an extraodinary phone, and an amazing DAC, but I grew tired of using impedance adapters. Fiio X5 iii won this one.- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
It's because of the wow factor. Remember I said that? I have them in my HT. They have very strong bass response, as you well noted, and their tweeters are bright and sparkly. This is exactly what you want on a HT. For hi - fi listening, they do kinda suck. They have a suck-out in the midrange...- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
If you don't have a terrific headphone, the V20 doesn't make much sense. It's a great phone, but many other phones are as good as, or better. The real strength of this unit is its Quad DAC and headphone amp!- fjhuerta

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones
I just loaded Neutron on the X5 iii, and used the EQ curve on it. With an A5 amp, the Cypher cable is history. These are incredibly powerful and dynamic. I hesitate to say I like them more than my Ety ER4-SR (since those are un-eq'd), but they are currently my go to headphone. I just love them...- fjhuerta

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones
IMHO, anyone listening to the iSines without EQ is basically throwing their money away. There's a reason why these headphones need extreme amounts of EQ... because they sound like top of the line units when its applied.- fjhuerta

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones
That was it. The V20 wasn't kicking into a higher power mode. I did the usual trick (added a short extension cable) and it went into line out mode. I wish I could trick it into high impedance mode. As it is, it's now perfect (although still a bit underpowered, compared to the Cypher).- fjhuerta

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones
The amp can drive Sennheiser HD-600s. I doubt it can't drive the iSines. I'm still playing around with the Automatic gain control and the preamp settings, see if it helps.- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
Download it on a PC. I tried downloading it on my phone, and the three times I tried, I got a 0 byte file. The correct size should be around 17 MB IIRC. Download it on your computer, and transfer it to your PC. It should work then.- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
I also did the test with RMAA. And I got the same results as you did!!!!! Here's the thing that should worry us. 1) I've seen other test results of the LG V20 where it goes above 20 KHz, and hits 48KHz with a 96 KHz sample rate. 2) My own older LG V20 went past 20 KHz, but it had pretty high...- fjhuerta

LG V20 Sound Quality
I created a pink noise 24/96 FLAC, and loaded it on my phone. Then I played it back, and analyzed it with a SB 24/96 card, and TrueRTA 24oct. The Fiio X5iii, the Galaxy S8+ and the LG V10 hit 48 KHz with ease. The LG V20 dropped off like a rock from 18 KHz onwards, no matter what I did, and no...- fjhuerta

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
What's the best "pure" player for the Fiio? I own PowerAmp, USB Audio Player and Neutron, but don't know which one of the three will do "bit perfect" output with the least signal processing.- fjhuerta

Damn, it does work now properly. I listened to it yesterday for 5 hours, and today for 2. It ROCKS. I now have the V20 to compare to. I wonder if I'll end up with two DAPs. I love its sound. Absolutely LOVE it. Thank you for your help!!!!- fjhuerta

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
It's broken. It can stream via spotify, but if I try to play vbr AACs, the sound just cuts off after a minute and sometimes comes back, sometimes it doesn't. The VU meter freezes, too. Navigation is broken, the back button sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. EDIT: What on earth. I...- fjhuerta

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
There's a reason for everything. 1) I installed Facebook Lite in order to log in with Spotify. I then realized it's not necessary to have it running. Still - I can't believe this unit can't run Spotify and FB Lite. 2) I took it out of the box, didn't even install an SD Card. My unit is slow...- fjhuerta

LG V20 vs Fiio X5 iii
Thank you for your answer. I do miss the V10, and I agree completely with your findings on the camera. I took some shots with the V10 people can't believe a cell phone camera took them. It may take better pics than m S8+. I think I'll have to sell my Fiio X5 iii, and use the V20 in the...- fjhuerta
