The “AC” designation only run on AC power and doesn’t have the battery built in. Think of that model as a small but capable desktop amplifier.

I just wish that Sony would update the firmware on the ZX507 and allow DSD mastering. A definition of a truly portable DAP is the ZX507 with slightly longer battery life with a DSD mastering written all over it.

DAC or DAP? A portable DAC doesn’t have an amp section.

Why not check out the Ibasso DX240 with amp8 MKII? It compliments my 1AM2 very well. No volume cap to worry about either.

A friend of mine did a similar cals and he said that the FiiO PL50 should be okay as well. Still, the IfI elite just sound better to my ears. Extremely black background on the Elite. I like the Elite enough that I bought the 12V version as well. Really can’t go back to the supplied AC...

Yes, the ifi product is great and it sounds better than the FiiO. Highly recommended to go with iFi elite!

Risk is on the PSU and not on the BHA-100. At worst, you will keep blowing the fuse on the PL50. I personally have not blown any fuse.

I recently tried the iFi Audio Elite power supply and this is a great sounding power supply for the BHA-100. The noise floor is very quiet and the background is much blacker allowing listener to hear deeper into the soundstage. Highly recommended. Use the DC adapter I recommended above...
